Adding fuel to the view-angle fire

I have always used the bumpercam. Never got along with 3rd p wiev. But In TOCA I used the roof/hoodcam and I liked it a lot so if theres the option between bumper/roof I probably go for the roof cam. The most important thing for me is that the camera is attached to the cars movement and a roofwiev gives better sight than bumper.

A roof cam would be great. It would show you more of the track, and it would be fixed on the car.

The 3rd-person view is completely undrivable for me because its position relative to the car is not fixed. When I turn I expect the camera to turn at the same time.

I dont like the roof cam idea. Bumper cam gives you the fastest feedback to what the car is doing. Thats whats most important to me.

And I dont see a difference at all in how people can argue that one has an advantage over the other. They both have their advantages, but inevidably, it comes down to personal preference. The car will drive the same speed and cross the line at the same time reguardless of what view your in.

Debating this topic is like debating abortion, it's all opinion and there will never be a concise winner. JMO.

I think the roof cam will be a good cross between the 3rd person and bumper cam. I too liked the 2nd choice of 3rd person in GT2. I was bummed when I couldnt use it. I find the 3rd person used in GT3 impedes my full vision of the road. I switch if in heavy traffic to see the other cars but then switch right back and keep the pedal down.

I completely agree. The first person view gives you a "feel" for the car's dimensions. I can always place the car closer and more accurately to the walls at seattle in first person as opposed to 3rd person. I may not be able to see the sides of the car, but the feel is really more accurate than is actual sight. Another thing that I think is being overlooked here is that in first person mode, you get a much better feeling for what the car is doing underneath you. I can react to the car yawing much more naturally in 1st person. 3rd person has you fairly disconnected with the car and your reactions to the rear twitching, or the front plowing has a built in lag associated with the dynamic camera employed with that view. For me, 1st person is definitely superior (and btw, the camera is definitely mounted to the front bumper of the car. Milefile's diagram explains this accurately. The camera cannot see straight down. There can be no argument with that).

Keeping in mind, as well, how bumper-cam height will actually vary depending on which car is being used, where an F1 car, for example, will be extremely low to the ground and won't allow you much of a preview of what's ahead, particularly if there's a rise in the track. I believe this helps add to the overall realism of the game, it being ostensibly a "simulator"

No...

Oh damn... :D

It's good to see that so many decent arguments - and well-thought out ones at that - are populating this thread... I feared it might drop down the well-trodden path to Locktown :D

May have to recreate it with an F1 car, now Wedgie has made a good point about that too...

The bumper cam is in a fixed location from the front of the car,... it doesnt change reguardless of what car your in or how you have it set up.........

I used chase view in GT2. But I also used the buttons and auto transmission. Now I use 1st person (bumper, in car, whatever), analog sticks and manual transmission, and I am much better at racing.

Just for fun a couple weeks ago I tried to drive an F090 around Seattle in chase view. Man I sucked. I found it to be very confusing and disorienting.

Conspiracy! :irked:

Famine & everyone else's objections to the names for the FIRST PERSON VIEW :P is just a feeble attempt to keep all of us from even being able to talk about it because we can't even think of what to call it. If we can't talk about it, then maybe, eventually, we won't use it either.

Think I'm crazy? :mischievous: Have you heard any of us complaining about them using the term "chase view"? NO! Because we're not conspiring against them!

I think that the bumper cam feels lower to the road when you use a NSX or Lotus compared to say an Evo or a Skyline, it does remain in the same position on the front of each car, but the height varies with that of the car.

i hate how there is a blind spot when looking sideways. a whole car can be hiding there. you cant see it when you look backwards, or sideways, then BAMB! its knocked you out of the way and into the sand trap :(

i generally use the rear 3rd person view, so i can see JUST how wide the car is/what's around me
