Hey guys,
Anyone take any notice of the brand advertising everywhere in this game? It's plastered all over the cars, which you look at while at the load screen, each event is also labelled with a brand.
Seems like we are now paying for advertising. These companies probably payed a fair sum of money to stamp there logo to certain events and cars. Probably covered the development cost of the game! Then we pay on top the premium cost of the game as well!

I don't like that these brands are in my face the whole time.

Then they ask you to put them on YouTube. So you can advertise to the world. They have a good marketing team behind them.

What do you guys think? Does it bother you as much?

Regards.

I imagine its much the same in the real world, so it's just simulating the sport. Granted most 2011 rally cars only have a couple of brands plastered on their car.

God knows in what sport a terrano is used but I can see nissan, falken, calsonic, 3M, NOK corp and a heap of other brands on it.

Doesn't bother me much anymore, I think I have become numb to ads. All I know is I want to try an Energy Drink while playing, maybe I will sub my coffee with one one day, LOL.

I remember my first introduction to ads in games, GRAW and Rainbow Six both used to advertise movies in their games, it adds the realism, but DiRT 3 takes it to a whole new level, but most ''extreme'' sports and racing are all about advertising so I accept it.

Welcome to the world of motorsport. Sponsors fund motorsport, without sponsors motorsport doesn't exist. So in reality DiRT 3 is actually replicating that aspect realistically. All it takes is to look at some of the names of the WRC rallies to see DiRT is not barking up the wrong tree;

Nestle Oil Rally of Finland
Vodafone Rally de Portugal etc etc

I do expect to have the cars covered in sponsors, but if they want to replicate older cars they should be sticking with the older looks with the original sponsors and graphics. not putting kickers graphics on an 60s rally car.

GT5 is not as bad with this, there older race cars still look the same as they did back in the day, not covered in new graphics etc.

But they are a business, not a charity, they are here to make money, but don't make in so obvious.

Even at local level, rally cars have sponsorship, even if it's small businesses.

Yes, it happens in real life,
but also, it is heavy in game advertising... few games these days exist without it.

I really don't get what you seem to be making a fuss of, the liveries are a little far-fetched in some cases but it's nothing that couldn't really happen. Some may not be historically accurate, but it's not a period racing game. It's set right now, so I don't see the problem, besides there are some more historical liveries.

Even the tracks, aren't that packed full of sponsors in comparison to some real circuits. And in comparison to another recently released driving game the amount of advertising really isn't that much of a problem in DiRT 3.
