I'm trying to learn how to tame the Formula Gran Turismo for the Formula Gran Turismo Championship. The only thread I found was on the Formula Gran Turismo Championship, which was helpful.

I really enjoy the challenge of learning this car, and looking forward to getting my hands on the Ferrari F10! So far I've been doing time trial runs to learn the car/lines better, but I was hoping someone with more experience racing formula race cars might offer some advice on how to drive these beasts.

I'm looking for suggestions on braking technique, when to turn in and when/how to get back on the gas. I'm so used to how "normal" race cars handle, so any suggestions are appreciated.

I drive using AT and ABS on 1 using a G27. I'm not ready for MT yet and would prefer to tame this beast without aids if possible. I've also been using budious tune

Other than the Formula Gran Turismo, Ferrari F2007/F10 and X2010/2011, are there any other formula race cars in GT5?

I've always had trouble maintaining Formula race cars too, but I can tell you, you should ALWAYS brake in a straight line. Some cars you can power slide with, but you must brake in a straight line to prevent spinning out.

You should turn once you've slowed down to a speed that you can take the turn comfortably, but don't floor the acceleration as you turn.. Lightly accelerate and then once you've totally straightened your car out after completing the turn, you can continue going full speed.

Hope I helped!

Thanks Young King! That's pretty much what I've been doing so far, but didn't know if it's the fastest or best way to drive these cars. Have you driven the F2007 or F10? Are they easier to drive than the Formula GT?

The Ferrari F1 cars are much easier to drive. presumably because they are bound by restrictions, where as PD's FGT is made without any restrictions in mind.

THe Ferrari F1's and the FGT are the only Formula One cars in the game. Not sure you can classify the X2010/11 as Formula One's.

I figured they might be easier to drive. I put the X2010/11 in the formula race car category because I think it's the GT5 version of the FGT?

Wide lines, dont kick the accel, brake straight, turn aids OFF , use RH tires because they are easier to recover a spin.

Get used to perfect kines, out in out to the max, they have terrible turning radius' so go as wide as possible.

If acceleration is too sudden, increase TopSpeed to max, or downtune.

Im actually quite good at racin fgt and ferrari f1. My advice, you have to shift down alot and time it perfectly when racing f1 . R u using helps, like tcs srf and sm? If u are, dont lose your
Revs, keep the revs high! If u still need help. I can setup my lounge so we can practice on the track that your racing on... Help with tunes too. Always willing to help..

In addition to applying brakes and full accel in a mostly straight line, I have found it helpful to remember that downforce is present only at speed, meaning that slower turns can't be pitched with wild abandon like medium and high speed turns can... I need to take slower speed turns in a much more calculated way, but with downforce (above 100mph) I can carve through many turns easily.

Agreed... generally the Ferrari F1s are not as fast in a straight line as the FGT but they are more stable in turns. Proper tuning can help stabilize the FGT's wild nature in turns.

I'll have to try wider lines (out-in-out) and hopefully keep the speed up to make use of downforce.

XEPEGTP, you mentioned to use RH tires, and budious almost mentioned this in his tune. I tried running using RH tires, but when I ran with RS it cut about 3 seconds off my time. If I get better at this car will RH be better? During longer races, is there a large difference in tire wear between RH & RS? Any reason I shouldn't use RS?
