I would like to get an idea of why people are so damned critical of aesthetic parts.
Now, do not get me wrong, I hate to see evo faces on Sentras, but I want my car to be MY car. Not the same one that everyone else has.
I am thinking of more subtle aero parts. K/T Design produces really nice aero parts. (Even though only available for three or four cars.) Lets have a vote, and see what GTPlanet thinks.
Tell me exactly why you do or do not like aero kits. By the way, saying that they are non-functional does not count.

But that's precisely the reason why I don't like kits. If that doesn't count, I guess I'll just say that most of them are about as tasteful as a Vegas hooker.

"Purely aesthetic parts" are non-functional.

The general tone of Gran Turismo is in regards to racing and educating people on the true virtues of automobiles and motorsport. That's why i think that it makes more sense only to include mods that affect the car's performance. It will still allow for that "customization" but might start educating people as to what wings, body panels, air ducts, skirts, etc were originally and truly intended for (improved vehicle performance), and how all these things actually do improve the car on the track. I think that's also why on this board you see a lot of posts asking for rims to actually make a difference in car performance as well and not just for looks.

uhh, body kits or aerodynamic affecting parts have no place on civics and integras. A giant wing wont increase the grip on a car that can barely crawl pastt 100MPH. wings are okay if they're on a car that actually can make use of the extra grip. the qwing also needs to be adjustable to fit the style of racing/weather conditions/track. with body kits, they should only be on the race versions of cars, like an M3 or skyline. i dont like seeing basically stock cars with body kits and GIANT wings. unless you plan on actually racing your street leagl cars on a track, it's allright, but you'd better being pulling some high numbers on those dyno tests!

I don't like aero-kits that are used solely for looks. If it provides some sort of aerodynamic function, then they're fine by me.

Appearance is nothing. Performance is everything.

There's nothing wrong with a lip kit so long as it's tasteful.

I generally like aero kits on cars. They make your car look unique and less boring. However i do not like totally over the top things which don't suite(sp?) the car they have been put on. The supra looks good IMO but the spoiler on the FTO is stupid as it does not compliment the overall style of the car.

I'm just using that as an example. If a civic gets that fast, it's not gonna be followed by a hairpin turn. I'm saying that its not going to need that downforce. It's not like it's gonna lift off the road if it doesn't have it. Plus, bodykitss don't raise the car's top speed or make it go faster in any way, like some riceboys think.

There are other games out there for the "tuner" set. I say let them play those games - the GT series was never about the bling or the rice. Putting things like custom aero parts that are nothing more than looks (IMHO) is a waste and unecessary.

I don't think GT4 needs stupid looking body kits, neons, or bling master dubs like NFS:U but adding a little bit of personalization wouldn't hurt. As I said i think it should be limited to lip kits. A lot of the cars in GT3 had these kits anyway, I don't see why we shouldn't be able to mix and match.

I've given my opinion before, parts that you would find on real race cars or aero kit's should be in but show kit's shouldn't.

Now, I like the idea of customization of parts and paint schemes, but I don't like the thought of how complex it may become. Finding the right and relevant kits for a car, and a paint scheme to match, could take a while for some cars. Simple things, like the lip kits mentioned earlier, seem like a better idea than a full-on, completly useless bodykit.

It's like one of theos old sillhoutte racers, like the Zakspeed Capri and R30 Skyline (as seen in GT2).

"I want my car to reflect myself."
Thats cute. Go buy a scion then.

"A car should represent it's personality and abillity with it's apearance"
Form follows function. A fast car will look fast to those that know what fast looks and sounds like.

So long as the car has the horses under the bonnet, he can have a large body kit on it. If however you have a 1 litre small shopping car with a massive kit on, that just is stupid IMO.

Cheers

Jamie

Thanks for posting everyone!
Although I did not like to see people making attempts at sniping me. That is not what this place is about, remember? And to further that point, I never made my position clear. DO NOT make uneducated remarks about people that you have never spoken to. I placed responses on the poll that I thought people would agree with. It is supposed to be balanced.
Once again, thank you to the people that made valid points about their beliefs without insulting others.

For the people that like to pay close attention; I never mentioned the incorperation of aero parts in any Gran Turismo.

I actually noticed that.
And to be honest I thought that you should have placed this topic in 'Cars in General'.
