After one week of play....

after one week of play, i'll start off with my disappointments..... it seems to be getting a bit disappointed in terms of game play time. but i think it must be B-Spec mode. playing those annoying 10 lap or more are too easy with B-Spec. also another disappointment was that the rally mode and arcade mode is not as good as before. unlocking all 700+ cars in arcade mode is still gonna take alot more time, maybe thats a plus. but still, with GT mode unlocking stuff in arcade mode, i cant see the reason why someone would want to race single player in arcade mode. 2P mode is still enjoyable especially with this many car, but the fact without memory card battle has taken out 50% of the enjoyment.

the random prize car thing in GT3 imo is much better then the single prize car here. that forced us to play the same even again just to see if we can get the car we wanted. now, there is no additional incentive for us to play the same event again other then our own interest.

the new wheel of the day is a very nice addition. i love the idea of using other car's original rim into some of my own cars, like M5 wheels on the 120i is simply beautiful.... but seriously, then GT3 system was much better, cuz once u brought the rims its urs to keep. unlike now, u have to buy a seperate set for each car. if it was like GT3, i dont need to check wheel of the day very often to find a wheel i want. i put alot of the same wheel on different cars.

some minor details were lost in this final version. one thing i notice is that the AMG cars (E55, SL55, SL600, SLR etc) are now "Manual" instead of the torque coverter automatic featured in GT Concept and Prologue. however, they still kept the TC Automatic simulation in the Skyline 350GT8 and the EVO VII GT-A.

so whats so great so far? every single car is different. they all have a unique characteristic. i've spend more time running around in those track days in various different track then actually racing events. and just free driving on nurburgring alot.

B-Spec mode is awesome for those lazy people. but it definatly cut down on the play time of the game. in some close race, watching the AI race for u is really exciting. sometimes they race so close that u really have to watch the whole race and give command to win. also watching your car is really nice. since i drive in First person view, there is no way to enjoy the visual of your own car. B-Spec mode allow that

Photomode is something i havnt got a chance to enjoy. i can see i'll be spending ALOT of time in that mode. but first i really need a compatible USB drive. Probably due to the fact i cant use photomode yet, i'm completing the game alot faster then others.

other then that, i think Arcade mode should be seperated again, add more events. having dupicated event in different level of halls is good. like having FR/FF/AWD/Turbo/Na etc race in all 3 Beginner, Pro and Extreme hall would be nice. putting all manufacturer race in 1 hall would be better and more easily accessed.

Thats why Bspec mode sucks. The AI can play the game for you. It will kill the replay value of GT4. Too bad Bspec mode could'nt have been made to only work for the fun of it instead of working to increase the completion percentage in your game.

i thank the b-spec mode. Hell, its racing the 24 HR Nurburgring Endurance for me right now... 23 more hours to go..............

I didn't think about that. I guess it is good for something!

now, there is no additional incentive for us to play the same event again other then our own interest.

Interest? Heh, why are you playing GT again? :)

<---- is known to just do free runs for hours nonstop with no prizes at the end.

I cant wait to tackle 24hr races. Although I'll be doing it during winter when there is no chance of my playstation overheating!

I cant see myself using B-spec mode at all.

I agree about the prize car situation for sure, there is no need to go back to races once they're done, apart from A-spec points, although those seem messed up....

Do you think that all cars will be unlocked in arcade mode?

This would mean that you can use all cars in LAN races? And not only a limited number of cars like in GT3?

at least mission hall has some fun things, but not creative at all....nothing overly "wow" ish

im not too satisfied...and ive had it since the 28th but oh well, to each his own.

i'm starting to get that feelin' again:...............:odd: it's more of the same........lots more.............watching these vids that are on the forum make me realize that gt3 is actually "gt3 gold edition" ........................and PD, please throw away these soundsamples.............they're &$%!@ ever heard a car producing the same noise as my vacume cleaner? :boggled:

Well, I wouldn't say that B-Spec Mode is for "lazy people." I've always said it was like for people who either aren't great racers or totally inexperienced to Gran Turismo, much less any other racing game. I think of the AI more like... helping you out than showing you how much you stink in racing. It's the same way I feel about the ghosts in the series.

And Hyde, if you were to choose between playing through GT3 and GT4, which would you play over the other and why?

I'm starting to get the feeling that GT4 is going to be a disapointment, i'm sure i'll still play it for hours but i think PD has just done what it wants to do and not listened to any of the fans suggestions, they could get away with this with GT3, but GT4 has some real rivals now (Forza etc).
I was hoping for the sort of jump we got from GT to GT2, but all we seem to get is GT3 with knobs on. I don't hold much hope for future GranTurismo games if this is the direction of progression PD are aiming for.

A. where the **** is online
B. where are custom paint jobs.
C. arcade isnt fun, no garage no objective in arcade. like mission style
D. imo too many ****in cars now. what the hell am i gonna do with all these cars, i wont have enough dough to upgrade half of em.
E. wheres drift.
F. where drag.
G. im sick of lap 1 lap 2 lap 3 lap 4. finish. collect money. lap 1 lap 2 etc. buy car, gawk at beautiful car, lap 1 lap 2 lap 3 etc.

what happened...

yes im B!tching. but ive played the game to much farther then i anticipated.

I agree, I'm also starting to think the car selection was better in GT2. I haven't seen anything that shows a legitimate reason for all the delays & its a shame PD didn't have the courage to push GT4 online. I'm sure GT4 is very good, but it doesn't sound like a classic or worth all the hype & delays.

Yeah, I don't believe PD deserves to call it "The Real Driving Simulator".

It should be more like, "The Real Good Driving Game," or something along those lines.

It seems to me ALOT of these impatient people with excess money are disappointed with the final release of GT4, finding nothing new except for a bunch of new tracks and a few hundred more cars.

Without being able to 'truly' drive them, ie. with a clutch, or even a simulated clutch, and without being able to battle other people (without a large degree of complexity), one can hardly call it a Driving Simulator.

It's just a detailed racing game.

GT3.5 if you will.

I think a similar thing happened with GT2.

They wanted to get it out before the Christmas boom so they were rushed and it wasn't as good as the first. I'm suprised they didn't learn from that, because they seem to have done it again and I don't foresee any improvments being made on the export versions.

And what's with these delays?

Every time I checked the release date, it was a month after the last release date I was given, so I stopped checking. Then there was a big hype about it being out in Japan on December 4th (or so) and in North America on the 15th (or so). Now all of a sudden, it's out in Japan and won't reach American/Canadian soil until some three months later.

Unless they plan on creating, testing, and publishing an actual network mode for the PAL release (which is highly unlikely), I can see no valid reason for there now being this huge gap between NTSC/PAL release dates.

Soon I will forget about this huge ordeal, GT4 will be released, everyone will buy it, and we will all use Kai and be happy.

En garde!

Whats with the fact that the Merc's are no longer auto!!! :grumpy: That seriously sucks......the great thing about the SL55 in prologue was thats it had the slick shifting auto box.....LIKE ON THE REAL CAR!

Also, why can't we buy the rims and keep them! thats really annoying.....in the past you could by any rim and use it on any car :grumpy:

Plus the fact that you now can't have 2 player racing your friends customised cars......and the fact that PD are failing to realise that cars such as the lightning are FR! not 4WD...... :grumpy:

I don't think B-Spec and Photo mode make up for all these small failings......REAL DRVING SIMULATOR should mean real...........as in REAL MERC SHIFTING and REAL FR ON CARS THAT ARE FR!!!!

Not to mention........the lack of other countries cars apart from Japan, No UK tracks, No online..........gosh PD really did rush things! :indiff:

Quite dissapointed at the moment.....I very much doubt these things will be sorted for the PAL realease but I hope so..... :guilty:

GT has not reached a new level with GT4............ :guilty:

A. Who cares.
B. NFSU
C. That's what GT mode is for. it's "arcade" mode...when have you gone to an arcade to progress?
D. Yea...everyone hates variety...
E. It's there, always has been, just learn to do it :P
F. Power and Speed
G. ....because we all know that racing isn't lap after lap in order to win...there must be something else right? Go play Midnight Club or something...

Yea I'm being a smart @ss to you, but seriously, half of those gripes are just...rediculous.

A. lots of people care.
B. Paint jobs lets me feel like its my own car versus a car anyone with gt can buy.
C. Gt used to have actual progress in arcade mode, where u could unlock tracks by racing a series
D. no its the inclusion of cars just to fill up space and make a bigger number, they could have had race mod instead.
E. thats the same in every gt game, and every racing game. there was a drifting mode in the works.
F. no **** jackass, there is nothing more on it then just a freerun type thing, no racing mode its just there.
G. once uve done half this game u will think about that...lap and lap is nice, but it doesnt feel like ive acheived anything in this game.

Yeah so fuk off.

GT4 seems to looking like Doom 3. Its great to look at and play but theres nothing new and its has annoying quirks to make less enjoyable.

Getting a little tired of people saying, WHERE IS DRIFT MODE!!

You'll often find these same people are the ones saying, GT4 is not realistic.

Well there is no drift mode in real life kids. And neither should there be in GT4.

Just learn to tune your car, and learn how to drive it properly, and maybe, just maybe, you'll discover the art of drift... What do you reckon, will give it a shot?

But I thought the real low point was the too many cars thing. Jeez... :indiff:

I like the fact theres many cars, but online mode was big for me. Drift mode was supposed to be in but was probably killed at the last minute.

is this game just all about eye candy to you??? is that all it is?? just to look at more cars? isnt it supposed to be GAMEPLAY??? to actually enjoy the game and strive to unlock new cool things. yes there is drift competitions, u obviouosly dont know. go to Yokohama, Japan. you will see how cool drifting is, its not for kids, many people enjoy its art.

Eye candy is nice, its like having 10 super models you can go out with, but u can never do anything with them, and im not talking about Rice type of stuff. Im talking about actual racing modifications.

have you gotten your head out of youre A$$ yet?

EDIT: no matter what i say i cant get thru some of you thicker skulled folks. so i will stop.
