Really depends on the specs mate, though for $2200, I'd recommend this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834152345

Both of the AWare laptops you've mentioned are heavily out of date, using technology based on the 2xx series from nVidia and mobile versions of the 1366 socket CPU's from Intel. Newer laptops such as the one I linked, well, take that one for example has a very high end graphics chip, of the latest technology (will blow the AlienWare out of the water), and a latest Core i7 Ivy Bridge mobile CPU, with a lot more power than the i7 940X that the M17x has.

The older versions of the Alienwares are pure and simply, at this time in technology (as they were at release although it's a bit mean of me to say), a waste of money.

EDIT: Also, that laptop has 2 64GB SSD's in RAID, so boot up and shut down times will be quicker than you can take a breath, plus a 750GB drive for mass storage. Good thing about the mass storage drive is that it's 7200RPM, not 5400RPM like most laptop drives (the speed difference, although not blazingly different, can be noticed between 7200 and 5400)
