Grand Valley Speedway, Japan
The cars were finishing their warm-up lap. The crowd anticipated the moment when the first car would cross the start line. And in his rattly old Miata, 18 year old Mark Thompson gripped the steering wheel. It may only have been the Sunday cup, but it was Marks first race and he was determined. Determined to win. The start line was nearing, and then the moment finally came.
Racing towards the first corner, the Miata lost some ground, but that was made up when Mark out broke his opponents into the first corner. Through the hairpin the little Mazda was between a Lupo, a 1-series and some grass.
"Mum told me not to scratch her Bimmer. I hope it buffs out..." muttered the driver of the 1-series.
"Get out the way you stupid V-dub!" shouted Mark.
"Actually, it doesn't matter." he added.
"🤬" said the Lupo driver.
"I'm sure I overtook him a minute ago. Well, the Civic is a common car..."
"Yo bruv! Stop dissing ma wheels!" was the Civic driver's reply.
"I hope all Civic drivers don't talk like that..."
"V-TEC just failed to kick in, Yo!"
"I need more witty comments..."
He was behind 1st at the last corner, and was preparing to overtake.
"YES!" Mark raced out of the corner and onto the home straight.
And across the line!
That night, when Mark had gotten home, he found an envelope, with 2 train-tickets enclosed:
Vitz one-make race: Fuji Speedway. Invitation only.
