Right a quick poll.

1. would you want the game released in March 2010 without damage and weather - these can be downloaded from the PSN network for free in December 2010 when ready as a patch.

2. Happy to wait until Christmas 2010 for a game with weather & damage included on release.

Where's the poll?

Release now without damage and weather.

The poll is kind of poor because you are assuming damage and weather can just be patched in... the world of DLC has lead many to believe you can magically do anything you want via a patch or DLC... reality is there is a limit to what is reasonably done with DLC.

Case in point MS showcased Katamari for Natal and when asked if a patch could be releasd to existing Katamari to support Natal, the answer was no, it would not be feasible, a complete re release would done.

In order for this poll to work we would have to assume that the delay is for implementing these things. We already know that damage was in and have had confirmation that weather was also in before the delay so really this poll doesn't work.

That's somewhat different. You're asking games that were not programed in the first place to support new hardware which, as you said, cannot be done.

However, when it involves a simple patch to add a graphic feature to the game, is more than possible.

I think this is more of a "what if" poll.

The poll is a fail.Weather and damage didn't slow the progress down. That was done from Christmas '09 to March '10

Full game released in Dec 2010 with weather & damage included.

Mainly because it gives me more time to get money to buy a PS3, though I won't buy it after reading some members impressions on the game before.

I will take GT5 this summer when Sony starts pushing there 3D TV's!!

I would not mind even paying for the damage and/or weather on a release disc so I can get my grubby little mits on the game soon.

If we do get confirmation from PD, via there website, that the game is 100% confirmed delayed until Christmas 2010, I will be shocked, and will find it unbelievable, that a company held in such high regard (well used to be), can continue to embarrass itself with these constant delays - the (many & varied) forums on the net are ridiculing PD.

PD = Laughing Stock.

I can tell you right now they don't care what some people on a forum think. A majority will still buy the game which is all they care about.

While it was confirmed then and the base engine for it was done between xmas and march, I don't necessarily think we can assume it was completed, polished tested and the code gone gold for it in time for a march pressing and release...

I think it's quite possible the basic weather engine was roughed out and they figured out how and where they wanted weather to factor into the game and gave the announcement weather was in, but there is still a lot of fine tuning and completion to go.

Kind of like the ipad mockup. Inside it's all held down with electrical tape and it's far from finalized but it's official and announced. It's still not necessarily done and with video games, even once the code is done, it has to go through bug testing, certification and then go gold for pressing. That process alone can take months.

That's somewhat different. You're asking games that were not programed in the first place to support new hardware which, as you said, cannot be done.

Actually the hardware is supported at the OS level for Natal, the game would just have to be made to work with new input commands.

That was only one example though... there is always a point at which it becomes unfeasable to patch a game via DLC. It varies depending on game and what you are doing, but significant changes like a weather engine that effects pretty much everything in game significantly could well be out of that range.

Not really. The patch for NFS:Shift is proof of that. Them fixing the "bouncing" issue with the cars effected the whole game.

I voted for December with all features, to be honest, I would vote for march with patch, but downloading a significant part of the game after it is released is just insane. In GT5P you can have an example, in none of the event races you'll be able to find the Evora or California, you just meet Evora in arcade and California in arcade and in the Ferrari Event, the spec III upgrade was a lie, poor, and it didn't work at all. I don't want the same thing happening with the most awaited PS3 game, and I'm sure Sony and PD are considering this.

The 'possible' Fall release rumor, might prove to be true because Kaz is adding many features to the game, like online which was marketed as present in GT4 and in the end it was dropped, I guess he's not allowing this "leave it to the next edition" way of thinking, then we should see the most fantastic game of all times only in Fall. Sad, but true.

The patch for NFS seems to simply be changing a value in the physics calc or something. It doesn't change the whole game, it changes one little aspect which is how cars handle a bump. This could be as simple as changing a float to a double float in the suspension calculations.

Weather is an entirely different thing and effects everything across the board pretty much including all physics calculations, graphics, AI etc...

I am not trying to be snub or anything, but the fact that you think that fixing the bouncing cars in NFS changed everything the way weather does kind of makes me feel like I won't be able to explain to you really why something like weather coudl be outside the realm of adding with a patch.

All I want for christmas is ;

PS3 Trophy. You have played 10 months on Gran Turismo 5.

All I want for Xmas 2010: Megan Fox.

I would rather the game be released in december, if it comes out in march and doesnt have damage and people have read it has, it will get a bad reputation, therefore selling less, which is less money going into development for dlc/GT6.

ps. this is going on the poll

I voted 2 on this hypothetical poll. Devedander, as i pointed out to you a no longer than a few weeks back, anything is patchable as long as you prepare for it.

what exactly makes you think they can just add weather and damage with a patch?

Haven't we already been told the March release date for Japan has been put back a few months?

I am pretty sure this is what the 7th year in development????
I think at this point we should be lucky if this game ever gets released. I sure as heck dont expect it to come out in 2010. As long as its taking to be developed it better be the best racing game in the world and have all the best feautres from every racing game out there all in one. Does GT5 even leave black marks on the road yet?? Vinyl editor?? Tire deformation?? Anything like that?? Place to buy and sell cars with friends??

Then Forza 3 is the game for you.

What makes you think they cannot?

please tell me you're joking? They would first have to implement a full damage engine into the game in order for it to be patched later. So if they put the whole engine in now, what would they be patching other than additional small detail which would already have to be included on a smaller scale. So they either do a whole engine now finished and everything, or they don't do one at all.
I wish they never did start his damage bs.

Same with weather. The game would need to have it implemented. If it's implemented, what is there to patch later other than a shinier sun or a wetter rain?

^That is what dlc is all about. Its in the game and via dlc activate (money making bs). Most people think they can add all they want per dlc. I am so happy Kaz said: everything is on the disc there will be no dlc!
There are much more Important things GT should change. Racing-rules, Online, safety car, the clutch... weather and optical damage comes at the end of a long list in my opinion.

The following post, from February 2007, belongs and initiates this thread:

Gran Turismo HD for PAL, Gran Turismo 5 Prologue in 2007, GT5 in 2008

After many days without any info, new details begin to surface.

As French site jeuxvideo.fr states, Gran Turismo HD will be available for download on the first day of european PS3 sales - 23rd March. We can expect the same demo as NTSC version. However, "FF issues" still remain to be examined :).

They allso say that SCE France informed them that Gran Tursimo 5 Prologue will come in autumn 2007, while GT5 will remain in 2008 margin - and they say "spring". Prologue's "autumn 2007" somehow corrensponds with PAL release of Forza 2, but that is probably purely a coincidence :D

SLIGHT UPDATE: Forza 2 has ben announced for May 2007 for PAL territories, so we'll have a chance to play it at the same time as out American NTSC buddies. Nice move from MS, and probably a nice game to play untill Prologue's release.

Notice this is first ever semi-official mentioning of Gran Turismo 5 Prologue game ever - and it says "with more cars and tracks, and Online duels for the first time". Nice. However, I find word "duel" very intresting, since "duel" often means two-players-at-once.

This way or another, nice news for all us PAL-erz here.

3 years ago, when this post was published:

George Bush was President of the United States

Tony Blair was UK's Prime Minister

Jacques Chirac was the French President

I was 3 years younger

you all were 3 years younger

we all thought/believed/hoped that GT5 was one year away

we all thought/believed/hoped GTHD and GT5P were just "fillers" to keep us entertained one more year.

well ... we all were wrong.

But we didn't die or sustain serious or even light injuries, did we? So ... relax. One day ... some day ... it WILL be released :D

Wait and add weather and damage. The game will change massively with these 2 things added, it's not like adding a car or track, they have to be in from the start or not at all and wait for GT6.

Voted for Game oOUT in March ...

I dont care for Weather Change at this point, it can come later as free download in the Winter...

Damage and night driving should technically be included at this point, so i would expect it at the initial release.

QUESTION: i just thought about this theory...

Could it be that GT5 is being postponed in order to include other brand new cars we haven't been expected yet??

Could it be possible that, with the popularity and reputation of the GT series, a few Car Manufacturers have asked PD to include their car in the last minute, because they want to be part of the "encyclopedia", could it be that they want to have their new or concept cars features in the game at release time... sort of a mean to introduce and publicized their latest Car into the virtual world... (same way as Mercedes is doing with the SLS) ?

Could someone at Sony confirm ?

Yes, part of the reason why i voted December with everything included is because those two aspects change the entire complexity of the game, so it's difficult to just "tack in" those features. The whole game concept would be finished, the carrear mode would be ready and then later additions wouldn't feel part of the game. (kind of like you will only notice on single races).

If it changes the complexity of the game, and also of carrear mode, i don't know how can they patch it.

Even if "what if they could" is an option, i rather wait to have it polished then to have a rushed job.

I guess i'm scared because of EA and 2K games. NBA 2K10 has been patched twice already and it's still broken, because the "soul" of the game is broken.

So, i'm all for DLC, but not as happy about planning something that would be categorized as a "patch".

Dec. 2010. Why getting weather and damage 9 months later ? You won't be able to totally enjoy those features because you already got through atleast half of the game.

And it will give me some time to finish GT4. :sly:
