All is now becoming clear - GT5 was released nowhere near complete!

It's hard to remember a game that had so many promised upgrades and enhancements after release.
Actually, that's quite refreshing, in that we appear to have so much more to look forward to. Today's exciting announcement about more Premium cars being a case in point.
Surely it's becoming crystal clear that Sony had grown tired of Kaz's acute perfectionist streak and instructed him to produce a release candidate so GT5 could hit the shelves in good time for the holiday season!
It would be hard to imagine Kaz being completely happy with the game in its released state. It really is a case of flawed genius.
Fortunately, the ability to upgrade console software means that it is perfectly feasible for continuous improvement. Well, for most of us anyway.
The only negative question in my mind is when will Sony bow to the inevitable temptation to start releasing upgrades as payable DLC?

Your 'refreshing' is my 'false advertising,' I guess. And this thought just hit you? It hit me about 20 min after install.

I seriously doubt that GT5 will be a very different experience this time next year. Patch all they want, this game took years to get to where it is now. It is what it is.

Prologue changed through various massive updates, i expect this to do the same.
I'm pretty sure a few months ago, i made a topic or posted in one predicting that gt5 will be the most updated/patched game on ps3, 3 weeks in and this would certainly appear to be the case.

As long as they keep improving it, this will be fine by me, its the people not connected to the net will be the ones that will miss out.

The good thing is that there are a lot of tracks in the game that are not used in A-Spec at the moment, this means making new events should be straight forward....hopefully!

This model has benefited PC games for years (of course the update were free). I just hope Sony does not charge us an arm and a leg for "new" stuff. I obviously have no problem paying for stuff like completely new tracks or cars, since that takes a considerable amount of time and effort. But leave stuff like standard to premium conversions, youtube uploading, other features, new events, and challenges free.

I could easily see GT5 going from what is frankly a B to B+ game (game standards, not sim standards) to an A. So much of the "core" of GT5 is perfect. The driving physics, tuning parts (w/ the except of brakes), car (premium) track modeling, weather, day and night, special effects, and even the games performance (yes it does slow down, but considering what is going on, its acceptable. The shadows are the only fly in the ointment).

Make the XP system and rewards a little more forgiving, add more events (old VS new Le Mans race, multiclass races, rivalry challenges, David vs Goliath, time attacks based on real life, etc), take some of the standard cars and make them premium (Audi R8LMS, Veyron, Furai, XF, some classic rally cars, and maybe a few others, I would say 100 total over the years) and finally add a damage slider OPTION for A and B spec. This part would be free (thats one hell of a free upgrade).

Then for the paid portion, simply add new cars and tracks (New Lancia Stratos, Lamborghini Aventador, Ferrari Hy-KERS, new M5, new Lotuses, Spa, Silverstone, maybe a new PD made track, or possibly upressed versions of GT4 tracks a la Trial Mountain). Make each car a dollar (lets face it they are not going to make that many), sell a bundle with a discount on each car and each track for $5. I think that is pretty fair.

Then when GT6 comes out it would have ALL this content plus, whatever else they add.

No offense to the OP, but it makes me laugh everytime someone mentions 'Kaz' as a perfectionist. I have yet to see a 'perfect' release from Polyphony.

The single player gt mode is great! It's the online gameplay that gets me worried. U never know if the race is going to start. Why's my screen still black, quitting game to leave a lobby. God forbid my X1 gets corrupted.
As far as paying real money for new car download codes, could get interesting. I'm sure there's a few who'd pay a boat load for a certain car. I'd value my X1 at $400 us dollars for example. I'm not selling or offering, just saying.

We all know gt5 isn't complete, since you can't use all the features that was intended in game from the begining. And we all know that the majority of cars are modelled from scale models. Really fun. I dont belive in the crap "ps3 cant handle the details, bla, bla, bla". PD has just been lazy in some areas in the game.

The online mode is the best thing in game so far, even if its unstable. So +1 to PD for implementing online mode. The single mode i dont really care, because it is just booring grinding, nothing else.

I got a laugh too as I thought about a few turns I go around and see the spectators that look seriously like cardboard cutouts standing up.
The dirt in the rally races could use quite a bit of change. I'm not complaining, mind you, I love the game. It is a fantastic experience but it is not even close to perfect.

Sometimes I think "Damn GT5 is released"... Unbelievable... It´s not perfect but still the most played game on my PS3...

Its because there are no other games that can compete with gt5 for ps3, its kind of logic eh?

I stll claim that PD has organizational issues, and that we were to optimistic for gt5, which is actually gt4 with online play and better driving physics upscaled to 1080.

touche sir, touche.

Its the built up persona that everyone has created about the guy. Its comical. "He's such a perfectionist that he'll hold back (5+ years) on releasing the game til its just right." A few people say it, and all of a sudden its the truth. Maybe its because he's just passionate about the sport and loves cars but is limited by technology (PS3) and resources (limited developers) and working with Sony sucks. Who knows for sure? I know one thing, "perfection" isn't what comes to mind when I think of the GT series. Passion? absolutely.

Did you own GT5P early on? Especially the Japanese version. Because within a matter of months it was actually very different from the product that was initially released.

Maybe its because he's just passionate about the sport and loves cars .....passion? absolutely.

He is passionate, he competes in high octane races and has dedicated years to GT. But does a person that is passionate about cars include in his game the Kubelwagen and Camper instead of the E30 M3 and F50? A truly bizarre sense of logic Mr. Y has, a man of contradictions. Maybe he was limited by criteria we are unaware of, but on the face of it there seems to be a lack of customer knowledge in Polyphony. The game is good, but it can't cut it with any previous gen GT.

Oh really. I stopped playing after 72 total hours once I leveled up to see the amount of events. It should be fairly easy to add events/tracks via patches and DLC. I won't start playing again til then.

Funny thing is, that alot of people were saying give us the game, give us the game and patch it later. The saying of be careful for what you ask for is true. This is exactly what it is happening. But to be honest, if you give them more time, it will reach 8-10 years for development. In the gaming world that = highly outdated. In the Sony world, that would mean no GT on the PS3 console. Sony had to get them to get the game out. They took the 60+ million and decided to take their time. I am sorry but 150 people over 5-6 years should be able to get quite a bit done.

This is just becoming clear?

Well, initially there were two possibilities: -

A. GT5 was a similar release to F1 2010 .i.e. letting a seriously flawed game loose on the market.

B. A starting point for a long line of upgrades and additions.

My thinking, based on the evidence so far is that B. is where we're at here.

But time will tell.

Just because you are a perfectionist does not mean what you produce will end up being perfect.

I suspect that, given a free rein, Kaz would have been happy to have let even more time pass by. Presumably Sony is funding PD, and accepts that you have to let creative minds run free, to a point.

It's very likely that Sony got sick and tired of waiting for a release candidate, took a look at where the game was in early fall and insisted that it was brought to market now, even though it's pretty clear that there are still some very illogical, nay incomplete, design decisions and graphical/gameplay flaws in a number of key areas.

This is the classic conundrum facing publishers. They have vast numbers of customers eager to buy every single version of a title as soon as it's available, but they also have to work with creative people who have a perhaps less commercial agenda.

All this is fine, as long as there is a commitment to consistently improve the game, which does seem to be the case with GT5.

Contrast that with F1 2010, where Codemasters knowingly released a game with more bugs than an ant hill, yet were only prepared to issue one rather inadequate patch to fix it.

I'm just happy GT5 didn't turn into the Duke Nukem Forever of the PS3. I also don't believe that, considering what they did deliver, that more time would have made things better. They needed to release GT5 and get feedback from "real people" rather than continuing to drink their own six year old kool-aid.

I'm sorry but,

Type the s-word at ****.

This is sony were talking about of course the DLC wont be free lol

All the prologue DLC was free, Heavy Rain got Move support DLC for free. If anyone is going to do free updates and DLC it's going to be Sony. Perhaps I have missed the games they have put out where they made people pay for updates.

There are several things missing for sure and some other things that make me scratch my head as to why they did it the way they did.

Missing things include but are not limited to.
Adjustable gears.
Hood view. It was there is the demo or at least one of the demos.
Ability to drive userd created courses in a private lobby with friends. Was advertised.
Ability to have online and remote B-Spec races. Was advertised.
Leaderboards. An absolute must for many of us.
Credit for Online racing in terms of Game credits and XP. Also a must for many of us.
Some tracks that were shown on videos supposedly of GT 5 like El-Capitan for example.
Ability to save tunes at the very least the ABC setup that was there before but ideally save to file usernamed and reload as needed.

Things that make me wonder.
Why no tire restrictions in A-Spec mode?
Why no tire wear in A-Spec before the endurance races? Same for B-Spec before Extreme.
Why do soft race tires seem to last as long as any of the others?
The 3 above completely remove the tire strategy aspect of the game which was a big part of GT4.

Why did they do away with A-Spec points? This was a great little feature in GT4. I was hoping to have an online leaderboard for A-Spec points or at least have them show in your profile if or no reason other than bragging rights.
Why no Motegi tracks? They are a real world track in Japan no less and were there before. I am shocked that they were excluded.
Why can we no longer sell many of our cars? Even if we buy a car and then win the same car later we can not sell the one we bought nor the one we won. That is just not right.
What happened to the performance ratings? In GT5P some of the races were quite good due to the rating restrictions where as in GT5 we can pretty much stick soft race tires on anything and destory the opponents in 90% of the races with a vastly superior car.
Why no invite to race option?
Why do the cars in the Used car dealer always seem to be the same color? Pretty much everyone seems to be getting the Blue FGT but I have yet to see one that is any other color even though there are like 12 different colors on this car.

I hope we see lots of updates starting with Credits and Xp online followed closely by leaderboards and not just time trails for stock cars but leaderboards for our custom tuned cars in our garage.

.

This is your opinion. I do not think its seriously flawed. You may just blowing it out of proportion.

As far as I can see the game is finished. The online part of the game can and should evolve for any game. So far this seems more complete than GT3. If anything the game is much closer to finished than you think. Exaggeration just makes it sound worse.

As much as I like GT I have to disagree. It is not finished if things that are advertised to be in game are not there at release. I am still hopeful these things will be coming via update. If not Sony and/or PD could be looking at a law suit for false advertising. I hope they get it taken care of before it comes to that.
