All other being equal, do race cars have extra grip over normal ones??

They don't generate as much downforce as the RMed ones, and besides downforce, the RM cars have wider track, wider tires and hence a little bit more mechanical grip.
 
Go and try it. Race cars are far and away, have more grip than normal ones. Take a ZR1 fully tuned around Indy (American Championship) then do the race conversion and you'll see the difference. It's even more pronounced on road courses.
 
RM cars usually have something like 25-40 front downforce and 45-70 rear downforce.

If you take the same car wiht no RM, just every aero part you can u usually sit on 0 to 10 front downforce and 20 to 30 rear downforce.

So basically the extent of aero front/rear downforce available is their difference?

There is no "magic" extra grip within them due to being classed as race cars?
 
There might be, as if they are in real-life their suspension layout and design will likely be different from road car. But as the only tangible measure in game, the downforce difference is most obvious...
 
nothing beyond the physics engine will permit I say, pitted a RM acura NSX against a EVO on comfort soft both and hardly had any edge in the corners.
 
Aero + lighter weight makes them racecar yeah. It's basicaly what you do anyway.

And there's others difference too on racecar but not on RM I think. For example a GT-R35 stock is a Awd vehicule when the SuperGT R35 are FR cars. Transmission in real is different and engine layout too dunno exactly how PD is reacreating this.

But for RM cars the only difference I can spot is aero and the weight.
 
In addition to superior aerodynamic grip and a wider track, race cars typically have a number of their components relocated to give it a lower center of gravity. A street car might be able to keep up with a race car on the straights -- and in some cases, even pass them -- but will be decimated in the corners.
