Unfortunately the only cars I know of are the Mazda Cosmos, RX-7, RX-8 and the furai concept.
Well, if you count all the minor variations of those cars, that accounts for at least 20% of the available car list in GT5.![]()
Add all the Skyline and MX5 variations to this you get 50%

Ha. Funny, but a bit exxagerated? Maybe 14%?
50 Skylines, somethin like 30 miatas, and about 30 other rotary cars.
They're not wankel-engined, are they? I thought they had straight (or V) engines?
hmmm...toobad....are there any "race"/tunded versions?

Yeah, there's a few race / tuned, the one's I can think of (without checking)
Tuned road cars:
Amemiya RX7
BP Falken RX7 (old skool drift car)
Race cars:
RX7 Le Mans
RX8 Le Mans
Amemiya GT300 RX7
Both Amemiya cars are available in the New dealership, tuned section, far right. Search ''rare UCD'', there's a thread on rare cars in the used car dealership that has got pictures and details of the other cars in it, good info. 👍
FYI, RX-8 is a rotary, but it's not a Wankel it's a Renesis.

Wankel and rotary are interchangeable terms. Felix Wankel invented the engine, but it's more commonly called a rotary these days.
The Renesis is just the name Mazda gave their specific engine. It's more of a brand name type thing.
Don't mean to hijack, but I'm not too familiar with all the tuners myself and was wondering if the blue Amemiya RX-7 at the new dealer was a drift car? It looks gorgeous but I don't want to buy it and have it be set up all weird. I've just seen it in a lot of drift photos, so I figured I'd ask.
Thanks. I read the description and nothing about drift showed up, so I figured it was okay. I'll probably pick that up, and the yellow GT one which I think has the triple rotor engine if I'm not mistaken.I don't know, I know the Amemiya RX7 tuned car in real life was a very fast track car, I've seen footage of this car and it looks awesome.
There's a description of each car available before you buy it, press triangle or something when you select car and it comes up, can't remember what you have to do for new cars, used cars have description on the right.
I can't imagine that if it does handle badly that it can't be tuned to get around this, most cars people use for drifiting or for track driving are the same, it's just the tyres and suspension setup that differs.
In real life yes, a prodrift car will have differences to the way it's built compared to track cars, but on GT5 I think these differences can be overcome through setup and tuning.
In GT5 prologue the Blizt R34 was commonly used in some races, I've seen video's of people on GT5 usng the AE86 for both purposes, so I don't think it's a huge problem, maybe some minor issues for some cars but not major.
