Hi!

I'm looking to buy / get all the rotary / wankel cars in this game, as I really love this engine.

Unfortunately the only cars I know of are the Mazda Cosmos, RX-7, RX-8 and the furai concept.

Am I missing a car?

Well, if you count all the minor variations of those cars, that accounts for at least 20% of the available car list in GT5. :sly:

Add all the Skyline and MX5 variations to this you get 50%

 :banghead:

Yeah..that's pretty sad...Well most of the cars were transfered from gt4 and the psp version anyway, so it's not that tragic. Still, would have loved to have more premium cars.

Ha. Funny, but a bit exxagerated? Maybe 14%? ;)
50 Skylines, somethin like 30 miatas, and about 30 other rotary cars.

They're not wankel-engined, are they? I thought they had straight (or V) engines?

Yes, of course, I was being sarcastic about the amount of RX7s, MX5s / Miatas and Skylines in the game.

Correct, Skyline's and MX5s and Miatas don't have rotary engines...

A few companies had concept cars in the 70's using the rotary power plant, but I don't think any made it to GT5. Unless you come across some earlier RX cars, I think you've got it covered after the 787B.

hmmm...toobad....are there any "race"/tunded versions?

Tuned versions of rotary cars? Yeah. Theres at least half dozen GT/LM race tuned RX-7s and 8s in the used lot, and there are a couple of tuned RX-7s in the new dealer.

Aside from those, there is the 787B and the sweet Furai concept.

You've also got both body styles for the RX-7, and then if you really feel like getting all of them, the 110S is (I think) the same as the Cosmo, but for other markets.

That's pretty much all of them. Such a sweet engine. I was *this* close to buying an RX-8, but then we got a dog and I needed a hatch of some sort. Some day though, as long as the regulations (or sales) don't kill it off, I'll buy myself a rotary car.

Yeah, there's a few race / tuned, the one's I can think of (without checking)

Tuned road cars:
Amemiya RX7
BP Falken RX7 (old skool drift car)

Race cars:
RX7 Le Mans
RX8 Le Mans
Amemiya GT300 RX7

Both Amemiya cars are available in the New dealership, tuned section, far right. Search ''rare UCD'', there's a thread on rare cars in the used car dealership that has got pictures and details of the other cars in it, good info. 👍

Don't mean to hijack, but I'm not too familiar with all the tuners myself and was wondering if the blue Amemiya RX-7 at the new dealer was a drift car? It looks gorgeous but I don't want to buy it and have it be set up all weird. I've just seen it in a lot of drift photos, so I figured I'd ask.

FYI, RX-8 is a rotary, but it's not a Wankel it's a Renesis.

Wankel and rotary are interchangeable terms. Felix Wankel invented the engine, but it's more commonly called a rotary these days.

The Renesis is just the name Mazda gave their specific engine. It's more of a brand name type thing.

That's what I also thought.

I don't know, I know the Amemiya RX7 tuned car in real life was a very fast track car, I've seen footage of this car and it looks awesome.

There's a description of each car available before you buy it, press triangle or something when you select car and it comes up, can't remember what you have to do for new cars, used cars have description on the right.

I can't imagine that if it does handle badly that it can't be tuned to get around this, most cars people use for drifiting or for track driving are the same, it's just the tyres and suspension setup that differs.

In real life yes, a prodrift car will have differences to the way it's built compared to track cars, but on GT5 I think these differences can be overcome through setup and tuning.

In GT5 prologue the Blizt R34 was commonly used in some races, I've seen video's of people on GT5 usng the AE86 for both purposes, so I don't think it's a huge problem, maybe some minor issues for some cars but not major.

Thanks. I read the description and nothing about drift showed up, so I figured it was okay. I'll probably pick that up, and the yellow GT one which I think has the triple rotor engine if I'm not mistaken.

I won an S14 or S15 tuned car that the description says is from a D1 competition of some sort, but I haven't tried it yet to know if it handles like a race car or a drift car.

Yeah. they just changed the intake and the vacuum routing basically and called it something different. The Renesis actually uses 13B irons, so it's not much different from the FB/C/D engines at that level. A slightly different port and rotor I'd guess, but the same spinning Doritos.
