All the Cars in the World v2

Point. But since I'd already used "tin can" to refer to cars that were already better than the Fiat to begin with, I didn't have many options.

I think part of the problem here is that you're using the word "better" as if it has an objective definition that only you are aware of, while everyone else's idea of "better" is apparently unimaginable.

Don't know why people can't appreciate the finer things in life.

In real life, I've driven cars of up to five hundred horsepower, and I've had the pleasure of driving "cars" with as little as fifteen.

And while you have fun in the big dogs (in fairly short bursts between lights or in the two seconds it takes you to hit the speed limit), some experiences from "tin cans" just stick with you. Like wrangling a Suzuki Alto (Geo Metro) through the cones, oversteering all the way. Like pushing an air-cooled... errh... car... to its maximum speed (about 10 mph shy of the speed limit) and watching the oil temperatures rise as the engine under the rear seat starts to boil. Or the moment you discover why ABS is mandated on all new cars, facing 180 degrees from the direction you were going when you tapped on the brakes.

Driving a truly, woefully wretched car (and not just a Yaris. That's way too nice) should be on every enthusiast's bucket list. Either you'll have a terrible time or you'll end up laughing all the way. Or both. :D

Nice list. Missing a few. The Ford Lynx/Laser got a facelift around 02', and that model spawned an RS variant. Also, it's Ford Lynx/Laser/Tierra, Tierra is the Taiwanese badge.

Such a list may never ever be complete, but it's a good try. Good luck!

A pretty petty thing to point out but I have to do it or it'll be bug the hell out of me for the next day. You've include the '04-'06 LS430, which is the facelift version, or this:

04-06_Lexus_LS430.jpg

Note the crisper, more conventional headlights, the revised fog light design, the more angular grille and slightly different hood. It also got a six speed auto to replace the five speed of the pre-facelift models.

But you haven't included the older ('01-'03) LS430, which is the one with the blobbier headlights:

8647360998_114038e8cb_c.jpg

Note the smaller, rounded headlights on that sexy beast as well as the larger fog lights and a more rounded grille.

Also, I think you have a '92 or so LS400 and then a '99 LS400 listed. You should also include the '95-'97 LS, as this was heavily updated from the first ('89-'94) model. It was updated again in '97 and lasted until '00. So if you could include both of those model years, it would put my mind at ease. :dopey:

Thanks, 'll reasearch that.

I'd like to help you with that GAZ lineup. But I have to notice some points:

1. GAZ 13 Chaika didn't have the "M" letter in its name. The ZiM/GAZ 12 could be also known as GAZ M-12, but Chaika couldn't.
GAZ 24 Volga was never called M-24, too. And M-21 Volga lost the "M" letter in 1965, when the model was updated.

2. GAZ 69 Kozlov... maybe you mean Kozyol? Well, "Kozyol" is Russian for "Goat", so GAZ 69 Goat is the same, just translated to English. However, Kozyol/Goat is a nickname, the car was officially designated as just GAZ 69.
Also, GAZ 46 MAV was based on GAZ 69, but didn't have its name.

3. Juna is not a GAZ model, it's a unique, garage-built car.

4. The V8-powered versions of 3102 Volga were called 31012 and 31013 (the difference between them is engine, each had GAZ-13 and GAZ-14 engine respectively).
The rotary-powered vesion of 3102 was called 31028.

5. GAZ Volga M-24 Universal '70 - did you mean the estate version of 24 Volga?
GAZ-2402.jpg

The wagon's name was GAZ 24-02 Volga.
"Universal" is a Russian designation of wagon.

6. I'll post some missing models later.
And one more question: do you add special service versions of cars like taxi or ambulance? For example, GAZ 24-03 Volga, the ambulance version of 24-02?

The Kubelwagen is a whole other issue. Sort of. In addition to being unable to reach highway speeds without modification, it was chosen over the better-known and far superior Willys Jeep for no reason I can even begin to imagine.

First off, I doubt the Willys Jeep would reach current highway speeds without some sort of modification too.

Better known? I've seen them both appear a lot in many WW2 movies over the years, the Jeep is perhaps more iconic to the general public for being also featured in many post-WW2 war movies (and it not being the Nazi car helps too with how it's perceived).

Far superior? Perhaps, given it basically became the blueprint for following 4X4's whilst you didn't see many rear-engined rear wheel drive all terrain vehicles since WW2 apart from a brief dune buggy trend during the late sixties and seventies (although they still race dune buggies with this layout).

A reason you can't begin to imagine? Here's one, it's more interesting because it's not the obvious choice, hasn't got the default 4X4 layout and therefor can offer something in the way it drives that I think is more fun than a Willys Jeep would offer.
Oh, and I even prefer how it looks (same goes for the Schwimmwagen).

But why am I even trying to explain all this to someone who can't appreciate the Fiat 500?

Actually, there is talk that during the war, after capturing a few, American forces discovered the Kubelwagen to be superior to the Willys Jeep in certain ways. More comfortable, definitely, and also with a bit more carrying capacity. Also less prone to roll-over and kill its occupants.

American GIs were certainly impressed with the Kubelwagen, and VW in general... which is why there was a huge demand for Beetles in the US following the war.

If you're going to go with RWD offroad, I guess it makes the most sense to hang the engine over the wheels. As was pointed out, the Beetle has its own offroad-racing legacy. Porsche had its hand in rally racing too, of course.

Considering the Willys had a 60hp 4-cylinder and a placard on the dashboard reading "MAX SPEED 45 MPH," I think analog is right about the Jeep's highway prospects. It's a similar vehicle that would serve a similar purpose (or lack thereof) in the game, with similar performance potential. Of course, the Jeep is obviously better because america.

Hope this isn't double post. I did it after someone else posted.

You have mentioned in your list the Series 2 Lotus Elise 111S 2003. However there was also a Series 1 Lotus Elise 111S which was built from 1999-2002.

Hugely impressive list otherwise though.

I'm sorry about the holden doc i was doing. i need to reformat a lot of it. do you want me to change it to Marque // Model // Full year while i'm at it?
