So here we are, the 8th round of the American Le Mans Series. There were talks about Creation, Zytek, Lexus, and other cars joining the series after the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Instead, the grids became smaller. None of the teams from Europe showed up, while many teams have dropped out permanently or will not rejoin until Petit Le Mans. The Lexus project, initially generating a lot of excitement, has been forgotten by many. Audi has even threatened to pull out of the series. Fortunately, the racing is still good and we have had some exciting races despite the low numbers. Next weekend's race at Mosport should not be any different.
 
hey, finally an ALMS race i can see :) since its 3PM eastern, it will be 12PM western for me so its all good, yay :dopey:
 
YES! My favorite track... I've been waiting for this one. High-speed, surprisingly technical, momentum-ish. FANTASTIC!!! With Joest Audi's in the field will we see a repeat of Allan McNish's "It's very, very wet oot." battles vs. Panoz except this time vs. Dyson? Will we see the leading GT2 car run out of fuel. There is something about Mosport that brings out great racing. Those Canadians sure can build a race track.

I never really paid attention to all of the race entrants so i didn't realize how small the field was is. I thought ALMS had more support than this.
 
It did but people are having little fall-outs with IMSA and to a greater extent, ACO on the random rule changes. It's unfortunate.

Yeah, this was really unexpected (by me anyways). Here's a summary...

Raced this year but no longer in the ALMS:

1x ACEMCO Saleen - decided to do Le Mans only (lack of funds?)
1x Miracle Courage - Sold everything
2x Konrad Saleen - Konrad's partner split
1x Highcroft Lola - Will concentrate on Acura program for next year

Never showed up:

2x Lexus - Said they would enter in the 2nd Round
1x Zytek - Said they would enter after Le Mans
2x Creation - Said they would enter the last 3 rounds

Will be back:

1x van der Steur Radical - Petit Le Mans
1x B-K Motorsports - Petit Le Mans
1x Horag-Lista Lola - Petit Le Mans
1x J3 Racing Porsche - Petit Le Mans

Possible:

1x ORECA Saleen - Maybe Laguna Seca
 
Mosport. Motorsport at Mosport. Bowmanville, Ontario, Canada is the city. Mosport has seen everything from open-wheeled race cars to touring cars to even CASCAR Stock Cars. The ones putting on the show will be the ALMS. I am a little fan of Mosport. ALMS has tredded over Canada several times before including Trois-Riveres and (I believe) the beautiful Le Circuit Mont-Tremblant (I'd love to see them do Mosport and Mont-Tremblant for a Canadian double dip). The ALMS will be back in America for the big September classic (which I will host on GTP). But for now, it's a winding trip around Mosport. Mosport is like Sears Point in that you're always on the move racing the track. Its elevation changes and tricky corners will test even the most hardened of racers. I would love to see more competition on the track racing at one time. But these 24 or so cars will provide PLENTY of fun and excitement. Speaking of fun, let's see how you take these FACT OR FICTON statements. Respond "Fact" if you think this is something we can expect to see for the Mosport event. Respond "Fiction" if you think that the statement in question is too good to be true and thus will NOT happen. How about some Maple Leaf love, people?


MOSPORT - FACT OR FICTION?
1.) Ron Fellows' Corvette will win in GT1 and give fellow Canadians something to cheer about.

2.) If the Corvette crew wins in GT1, they won't win 1-2. Expect an Aston Martin to prevent ANY chance of a Corvette 1-2.

3.) Either or both Penske Porsches will finish 3rd or better overall.

4.) Either or both BMWs will not see the checkered flag.

5.) Audi will not win at Mosport.

6.) The lone Intersport entry will record a Did Not Finish (DNF).

7.) No Porsche will win in GT2.

8.) Risi Competizione will see either or both Risi Ferraris place third or higher in GT2.

9.) Both Dyson Lolas will finish lapped or out of the race.

10.) There will be a Panoz on the GT2 podium (3rd or better).


This will be the first of two FACT OR FICTION statements. The other one will be for Petit Le Mans. So what do you think about these 10?

1) Fact. You betcha. Ronny 'n' Johnny are on a roll!

2) Fiction. Corvette one two. Those ol' Pratt & Miller boys have got " the mo " to quote a certain college football god.

3) Fact. This is a track that the LM P675 Dyson's were pole sitters at and maybe even winners if the memory will jog. Yeah. I could even see the Penske's on top.

4) Fiction. The Bimmers will finnish.

5) Fact. I can see Penske's on top. I know Mosport and I think it is very possible.

6) Fiction.

7) Fact. The Risi Ferrari's are coming out guns-a-blazing!

8) Fact.

9) Fiction.

10) Fiction.

We had a good discussion about that in the previous round's thread. Some members believed that it would be a disaster if Audi left, while some viewed the departure of Audi as a great opportunity to attract more entries. John and I were amongst the undecided.

I'm not trying to bring back the discussion, though it was an interesting one.

1. Fact. Ron Fellows will win another one.

2. Fact. A Corvette will win, but Aston Martin will be right behind them. (or maybe at their side like Lime Rock Park :sly: )

3. Fiction. Sorry Penske, but the top 3 overall spots are for Dyson and Audi.

4. Fact. At least one BMW will not finish.

5. Fact. Dyson will win.

6. Fiction. The team can't match Penske with their speed. They can't afford a DNF.

7. Fact. Ferrari once again!

8. Fact.

9. Fiction. Dyson will win. (maybe if I say it enough, it will come true...)

10. Fact. We'll see a Panoz on the podium.
