And I came across some interesting information the other day. The Toyota GT-ONE is actually a GT1 car not LMP. It belongs in the same class as the R390 race car.

the 1998 Toyota GT-One is a GT1 car but we have the 1999 car in the game which is an LMP
 
Yeah. The Nissan, Toyota, and Mercedes CLK are LMP. The Toyota was never a GT car, nor the Nissan. The CLK was a GT car, then it won the FIA GT championships in 1997 and they stepped up to the LMP class. Then at Le Mans in 1999, it flipped over a wall into the trees on the Mulsanne straight and Mercedes got scared and stopped

The Toyota GT-One ingame is the 1999 LM-GTP class version of the originally GT1 class TS020 GT-One which was built during the 'homologation era' of the FIA GT, so too were the 911 GT1, CLK-GTR/LM and McLaren F1 GTR 'Longtail'.

It was the Mercedes Benz CLR which replaced the CLK-LM as Mercs Le Mans weapon in 1999 and it too was in the LM-GTP class.

GT1 was never the official top class at Le Mans (that was always the purpose built prototypes) but the rules from around 1992 on allowed the GT1 cars to compete and that they did until 1998 when the FIA GT collapsed from manufacturers over spending on their programs and bailing out once Mercedes became dominant.

The CLR flipping incident at LM1999 was effectively the end of M-Bs participation at Le Mans once both the #4 and #5 cars flipped, once #5 flipped #6 was withdrawn from the race and the rest is history....M-B spooked by the 1955 disaster...

The R390 GT1 was like the rest of the GT1 cars of it's era, a LMP car with road going delusions....

And, only time I can remember in recent history there being 4 cars entered of a manufacturer being at LM other than in the last 4 years was the Audi R8R and R8C pairs.

Toyota has just partnered ORECA for 2012- in their LMP1 plans. Theres a great relationship waiting to happen.
