I've always wondered why these deals are announced a year before taking effect. Doesn't that create tension within the team, knowing that their man will be off to race for the arch-rival team next year? It's always silly season in F1, I guess. Flavio did say he wasn't going to pay Alonso world-champion money. Ron Dennis obviously did.

As for Kimi going to Ferrari...that seems a bit like Anakin Skywalker crossing over to the dark side and becoming Darth Vader. Remember when everyone loved Kimi?

haha, gotta love starwars analogies for F1...

I don't really like Star Wars all that much, but that analogy seemed rather apt. Kimi was universally loved when he was fighting Schumacher in 2003 (for our purposes, Ferrari is the dark side). Now, he has lost a lot of popularity due to his off-track exploits and increasingly negative attitude. Going to Ferrari would complete the transformation.

well, kimi may not be the only one wielding a 'red lightsaber'... afterall, vodafone's main color is red...

no matter where kimi goes, i will probably still be a kimi fan until he keeps winning like MS and f1 becomes boring to watch. As for Mclaren, Kimi wont partner with alsonso. And why would Mclaren want two potential world champions when only one can win? One world champion is enough and the second driver only needs to be decent for them to secure constructors champ...if it ever happens in 07 :indiff:

I thought Kimi was already a Darth Vader of sorts. Alonso was supposed to be the light side of the force, winning first, then giving way to the dark side, then winning again.

Know what, though? I think we have a Kimi-fett on our hands. If anything, Kimi is like the Boba of F1. Bounty Huntin' for Ron Dennis, and now for Jean Todt. Like a badass...

Something about that mclaren brings a menacing, antagonistic image to my head. Maybe Kimi, now that he's at ferrari, will be seen from the protagonist perspective, finally being the hero that quests for the championship after being betrayed by his friends at his former team.

IT'S SO ROMANTIC!

Good point; I don't think Dennis would want another Senna-Prost level intra-team rivalry, even though pairing Kimi with JPM was predicted to generate similar results before the '05 season got going. I kind of doubt '06 will be much different...

Renault on the other hand will most likely call it quits when the current concorde agreement expires. Who will take their place? I give Audi a vote... Well, ifs and buts...

Nah...my money is on Hyundai! :dopey: ;) 👍

Read. Basically just going on what DQuaN said earlier.

This is very interesting news IMO. The first thing that popped into my head was Kimi going to Ferrari, with MSC stepping down and Massa staying as 2nd driver for Ferrari.

Meanwhile, Renault have Webber/Heikki/Fisi for 2007, before they leave F1 at the end of 2007.

Though, there have been reports that Weber (Michael’s manager) has been in talks with Red Bull about a 2007 contract. Now that would be interesting!

I'm stunned! Stunned! This was so unexpected I almost think it's a joke. Wow!

But...on the plus side this means Kimi will be in red for 2007. Finally Kimi will have a fast and reliable car. A great chassis AND a great engine, not the piece of trash paper-weight Mercedes engine.

Wow...just wow!

I thought when I read the headline on F1.com that it had to be a joke also. This definitely came out of nowhere and I for one did not expect it at all. I always just kinda assumed Alonso would pretty much always be at Renault.

Geez, if Kimi goes to Ferrari, well I will have a reason to be a Ferrari F1 fan. I just don't see myself going against Kimi just because he is at Ferrari. I have always liked Kimi since I started watching F1 just a couple years ago.

Definitely "Wow...just wow!"!

^that's what I thought about MS when he went to Ferrari. His ego grew 10 times larger once he stepped through the red gates at Maranello. He seems to have come back to earth now, though.

Even if Kimi stayed... Would he be the SECOND driver on the team? I don't think he'd be very happy with that.

McLaren is SUPER weird, man. They are not the same team with Alonso on board. The heroic antagonist is no more.

I don't think there is a 2nd driver at McLaren ( that's why I like that team ). Remember Ayrton and Alain, they were on an equal foot.

Everybody keeps saying kimi will go to ferrari(which i believe he will) but nobody really thought about kimi goin to renault or toyota? Toyota did well in 04 and they might just end up world champ in 05 just like how renault supprised us in 05. Even if not world champ, toyota will be a major player in 07 and kimi might consider it if ferrari keeps going downhill (which they shouldnt but might happen)

arrrggghhh so many possibilities, so confusing :indiff:

Toyota definitely have the $$$$$ to pay Kimi that is for sure. I could see Toyota being a possibility as a place for Kimi to go if Ferrari were to go in the decline.

Remember, Ferrari was in the ditch when MS came on. Ferrari may be looking to rebuild again with Raikkonen as the lynchpin this time. And they have more than enough money to give Kimi the world, as they did with Schumacher.

Renault may not be in F1 for too long guys. I don’t see them staying in the championship after 2007.

Bubble Bunny raises an interesting point: Toyota will be the business in 2007 and beyond. Kimi could do well to get into the team as they begin to become very competetive.

Also, with the exit of key personnel, and sponsors, from Ferrari, the guys in red could be in alot of trouble in the comming seasons. Mind you, they seem to be working very hard at solving their 2005 troubles.

Linky link. So Fernando did this deal on his own … very interesting.

That would be a good reason for mclaren to annouce it. Throw enault off for one season befor the steal their best driver.

the only way toyota are going to be champions is if jesus christ himself drove for them. I think he at least has a little more taste then that...

To be realistic, Toyota have a much better chance of winning the championship than you are giving them credit for. I expect 2006 to be a very good year for Toyota, and I expect a championship battle, if not win, in 2007 by Toyota.

who gets a pole and who gets a win first in 2006?

red bull or toyota?

toyota would get a pole first but red bull will win first.

Dude, stop being such a stupid honda fanboy. Seriously, you're ridiculous.

That wasnt that silly. RBR isnt that bad of a team... If I had said midland will win before toyota that would have been silly.

No, I was refering to all the jesus comments and stuff.

That was a joke about them needing a miracle to win a championship.

Which comes out of your Honda fanboyism. Toyota don't need a miracle to win.

Ralf Schumacher and Jarno Trulli are both far from Jesus-like stature, but they showed that the car had speed, and was capable of running up front. Only Honda fanatics think that Toyota sucks.

Exactly.
