I've always been curious why manufactures choose certain options for different regions. In many cases you can say one thing sold well here but not there, or laws prohibit such-n-such. But colors are different. I've wanted an S2000 in dark blue for quite some time. If I move anywhere else in the world, I have that as an option. WHY! Honda, you're irritating me.

This configurator at the Honda JP site is pretty cool. I've not seen anything this neat on the web in a while. It loads slowly and operates slowly, but it's worth the wait. The top and windows have animated open and close, and the car is rotatable.

Well ain't that Teh Sux0r. . . I just went to Honda's site and low and behold they screwed the America Version. . .bastiges. . . they should all be banninated from their jobs. . . But this does give you a reason to get an authetic Japanese S2000 :D

Well the thing we get that they don't is a bigger engine with more torque and lower range powerband. I heard something about a 2L limitation for various reasons in Japan. Whatever. I want dark blue with tan interior ... !!

i want one in white! with the red interior

I was actually digging white with blue interior and blue top. My lady said it was ugly though.

Well, if I moved to Columbia I could buy new a '88-89 323 like mine(well, they only have a 1.3L and a 1.5).

Canada also gets some cool stuff, like back in the day they had 1st gen MPV V6 5 speeds. Also they had 323 5 door hatches.

Japan gets the best stuff. There were some 9 or so models(1 or 2 of those were actually in south africa I think) based on the BF 323 chassis, including a convertable, a Probe-like Etude, and a ute truck. They also got 4WD versions of many cars, including the 929 and 626. Turbo RX-7 convertables, 3 rotor Cosmos, a turbo 1st gen RX-7, 929s with navagation and 4WS, if I could go there I'd have to come home with some parts. :) Now a days, they have AWD MPVs, AWD Mazda 6s, and a selection of 6 or so small vehicles that I'd actually like to own(I like the Laputa the most out of the small cars).

That little S2000 optionator thing is pretty neato.

Honda does the same thing - there are probably 10 more models in Japan than there are in the States.

The configuration page for the S2000 is pretty neat. I wish they had done that for the NSX as well.

Color choices differ --sometimes strongly-- from region to region. Auto makers are very careful to get them right, because they can lose big money on an unpopular color. Those cars still need to be sold, and often are practically given away at invoice or below.

I remember BMW had a series of M metallic purples (Daytona and Techno Violet) that was a strong color in Europe --especially German, but tanked in the States. Purple M3s have the worst resale value. That hue is gone from the lineup now.

How about that god-awful metallic mica orange Mazda put on the Miata? Or the hugger orange Camaros?

Orange ... generally bad. Much like the bronze that Nissan used on the 350z.

However, a dark blue is always a good color. Somehow it was void from the US market S2000s.

Dark blue is a nice color on the S, it's too bad we don't get it. Perhaps Honda felt that American buyers wanted 'flashier' colors?
