Just attempted this for the first time.

If it was 5 laps or maybe even 10 I could probably get into it but for me it just seems to be 20 laps in a car which is horrible to drive, I've tried numerous setup changes of my own as well as trying some settings of other people.

Car just seems to have a mind of it's own. I'm using DS3 which some looking at various threads like the bonus race threads people seem to find a problem although to be fair I've managed all the bonus races OK with the DS3.

Don't be afraid to use aids like Skid Recovery on the FGT as it makes it a whole lot easier.

I'm with you, I hate it a lot, I can't put 1 lap together in that car let alone 20. What makes it worse is that the Bobs seem to love it!

Worst races ever... :ouch: I hate those 20 laps...

At least I used a tactic of hitting the cars with most points in championships and getting them last in a race... won the championship after 4 races due to hitting all the people that were behind me in a championship...

Still worst championship ever... and I even had to buy the FGT for cr.5million :ouch:

It's starting to get on my nerves as I just don't have the time to do the full championship.
Another problem I am having is using the DS3 controller, just don't feel I have full control of the car and am having problems getting a clean drive.

Bob on the other hand has his eyes closed and driving circles around the other competitors. For some strange reason he doesn't slam into the rear of the other cars as he does in other races.

I hate it... (FGT)

Mainly because this game is called ''Gran Turismo'' and claims to be a real life driving game, well, historically ''Gran Turismo'' cars were road cars modified for racing, special editions of road cars, grand touring cars or racing cars that raced on the road i.e. Mille Migla..

GT cars and F1 cars have always been very different.

I really don't like the fact that F1 cars are in the game and this means less road cars in the game.

Also, there are plenty of F1 games on consoles, why do we need an F1 car in this game, especially as we now have the Redbull X2010...

It shouldn't be here, plus paying 5 million just to complete one race series..??

GREAT...

👎

This car can not be compared to a "real" F1 car. A real F1 such as the F2007 or F10 dont exhibit the FGT's nasty tendencies to snap oversteer and pretty much have little to no traction on corner exit (even with Racing:Soft tires).

The FGT should be driven with all the assists on (like previous generations of F1 cars) to the purist this mas sound like blasphemy but it is a necessary evil if you wan to do well in the FGT championship. I NEVER use any assists except ABS but found it was essential in driving the FGT after countless attempts of tuning the cars suspension.

ASM = ON
TCS = 5
Skid recovery = up to you

with that alone it'll make thing easier.

I could usually pull 8-10 seconds on 2nd places throughout the entire championship.

Good luck!

I'm 100k credits away from buying a FGT and I'm looking forward to the races because I played F1 2010 just before I bought GT5.

I had awesome fun with F1 2010 (standard settings).

I'm not enjoying it at all - except the exp you get is alright. Just turn all the assists on and make it into an arcade game, it seems the only way to win. Unless you want to devote a lot of time to practicing driving that thing. F1 cars require quite a few practice laps to learn the best lines through the corners, as it's vital at those speeds. Tossing you out onto a track with 11 other cars is pretty silly, but whatever. I suppose you could go into practice mode, but why bother when you don't get any money or exp for it.

This is the first gt that I have ever bought an fgt I have tried one race and am not looking forward to the championship I don't think they should be in the game.

You’re not alone.
20 laps per race in such a twitchy, unstable car is a bit much for me. After a few tries I gave up… for now…

Am I playing a different game to the rest of you? LOL

I love the FGT and can lap in it all day every day :D My only problems in the championship arose when the AI decided it didn't want to let me past and decided to try and put me off the track/in a wall and I won all the races bar monaco on the first attempt.

For me, along with the 787B, it's the purest test of driver skill in the game. Cars like the Ferrari F1's and X2010 just suffer chronic understeer which flatters crap driving.

the car is just junk, really. Bob loves it, but I can't stand it. I've tried multiple different settings for suspension and LSD and stuff, and it's still junk.

I remember driving the F2007 in GT5:P brought a smile to my face. Driving the FGT makes me want to cry.

I thought a couple of the races were really tough, but I got gold on all the races on my first try with most the assists turned off. It was some of the most fun I've had in the game so far. Maybe you guys need to work on being better at the game before complaining about something you find challenging. I'm pretty sure real F1 cars are difficult to drive.

I agree this race is pretty annoying. I can easily get in front by the first corner usually but it is hard for me to do 20 perfect laps. Even if I slightly mess up and run a bit wide I always get one or two other cars passing me.

And it seems when they pass me they decide to go 20% faster than they were going behind me so it is almost impossible to catch them up.

I started Monza on wet tyres. No grip ended up 15secs behind other cars. Pitted when they did and put racing softs on. Loads more grip on the wet road and got almost a minute ahead. Then they pitted again around lap 10 and caught me up in 5 laps! They pitted again on lap 16, caught me up again then on the last lap the AI overtook me using the green bit on the first chicane.:grumpy:

I tried actually racing and "not cheating" and I couldn't complete a lap without either spinning out or getting spun out. (these are F1 cars not bumper cars people...)

There was no way for me to keep up with the AI racers. If I pushed harder and gave it more gas, it would spin out without hesitation. But If I kept it slower and avoided spinning out, then I'd get passed at every turn without fail. I was running Racing soft tires so I don't see how the AI stick to the road and get that much acceleration with chirping a tire.

Then I found it.

I put Skid Recovery Force on and Set TCS to 5. (it was at 1 where I keep it for all cars)
I was then able to go flying through the corners and give it all the gas I needed to do what the AI did. Yup, the AI use Skid recovery force, no doubt about it now. That's how they stay in the driving line like a friggin' freight train.

I still hate the FGT races. I haven't managed a win yet. As long as I'm in first, all the cars will be riding my tail like no other... But should one of them take the lead, he'll walk away from me as if I'm in a go-kart. No matter how fast a pace I keep, if I don't pass everyone in the first lap or two, it's game over.

I hate FGT like I hate NASCAR and their pit-maneuvering d-bags.

I loved them, actually. I did use some aids, since the FGT is a little bit hard to drive, but once you get the hang of it you're in for quite a treat, some of the most intense races you've ever ran in a videogame, at least if you have a wheel. 👍

I hate it, not because it is hard, but because it drives nothing like a single seater should, it's vague at the limit, it feels soft and not even get me started with the nose dive you get under braking, it's a single seater with supposedly super stiff springs FFS.

Glad to see it's not just me as so many seem to rave about the thing on here.

For me it's the same as a lot of your have said, you get in front and they are all over you. Make a tiny mistake and your down a couple of places and once they pass you they just disappear, I won the first two events somehow but on Monaco I just totally lost interest. I've golded every version of this game so far but I won't be on this, I just had another brief go with the car, managed to get in the lead on Monaco (playing it just as a single race) and just quit because I though **** this I can't be bothered. I'd rather try and trade a Caterham or find one in the used car dealer as after driving the FGT the only reason I want to win the championship is to get the Caterham.

Like JJ says it doesn't handle like it should, don't know if it is because of using a controller as I've never used a wheel on any version of GT but it seems like it doesn't want to turn in then all of a sudden it just snaps into the corner and then spits itself off wherever it wants to go. I hate the bloody think.

I find it highly annoying that you have to be lvl 23 for the event but need lvl 24 to be able to drive the car. The event gives good xp and would have helped achieving lvl 24 for the dream car championship!

Can't even purchase the car at lvl 23.

And then the CPU dools, who always spin out on the Nurburgring GP circuit just after the chicane, causing a complete traffic collision.... :S

If you think the FGT is silly wait until you get an X1.... getting that thing round the track has absolutely zero connection with driving skills what so ever.

Hi, my first post. I have driven the FGT in arcade mode for practice and in the Indy Series, but I haven't started the Formula Series (I'm at ASpec lvl 24). I wanted to add that, as far as a general strategy goes, I find it better "not" to take the lead, especially at the beginning of a long race. There's usually going to be at least one AI car that is going to pester me for the rest of the race. He'll seem to fly through corners faster, the more I get tired. That's usually when I make a fatal mistake. Instead, I have found it better to stay behind and draft that fast car for most of the race (at least until there's a premium for the time gap). It seems that the AI don't seem to bother me if I'm behind one of their boys. Then, I usually wait until the last one or two laps to pull ahead. Ok, I do wish that the AI who's in the lead would make some real mistakes occasionally.

The FTG series is the best one in GT5. End of story.
That's the only non-event serie that is a bit challenging and that you cant really cheat by using an overpowred car.

IMO, the best in the game.

The problem is that i dont think the physics spread on GT games really works at the higher speeds. Its built primarily for the lower speed cars. Then they throw in some F1 lookalike and it handles unlike any F1 type game ive played before. Just like a Civic but with extreme p/w ratio. Not ideal in my opinion, i'd rather they would have left them out as i said last page.

I actually like the physics of the FGT.
It's pretty much how I imagine a F1, very nimble, super agile with crazy acceleration and insane braking power.

Turn the TC off or to 1, no skid recovery, and just like the real world, I think every bit of "too much gaz" put you in the grass.

Or maybe I just liked the fact that the FGT serie was a big step in term of difficulty compared to what GT5 has to offer before lvl 24
