Am I alone in detesting the Formula GT Series?

I'm not enjoying it at all - except the exp you get is alright. Just turn all the assists on and make it into an arcade game, it seems the only way to win. Unless you want to devote a lot of time to practicing driving that thing. F1 cars require quite a few practice laps to learn the best lines through the corners, as it's vital at those speeds. Tossing you out onto a track with 11 other cars is pretty silly, but whatever. I suppose you could go into practice mode, but why bother when you don't get any money or exp for it.

This 👍. It'd be nice if GT5 had the qualify feature that was in GT4. I always made sure that Bob or myself got the Pole Position for every race, and it was nice to have a warm-up run on the track.

Formula GT not my cup of tea :yuck:. I bought the game wanting sports car racing not F1 open wheel cars or NASCAR bathtubs.

I understand where PD is going with this and that is to supply a game that has it all. There is much demand for both F1 and NASCAR probably two of the most famous, popular and recognized racing venues.

I have a hard time with the handling of the F1 but I did manage a 1st place in the Indy race on the second try. I was wore out after that one race. I doubt I will complete the championship anytime soon and probably just give that one up.
:yuck:

This car can not be compared to a "real" F1 car. A real F1 such as the F2007 or F10 dont exhibit the FGT's nasty tendencies to snap oversteer and pretty much have little to no traction on corner exit (even with Racing:Soft tires).

The FGT should be driven with all the assists on (like previous generations of F1 cars) to the purist this mas sound like blasphemy but it is a necessary evil if you wan to do well in the FGT championship. I NEVER use any assists except ABS but found it was essential in driving the FGT after countless attempts of tuning the cars suspension.

ASM = ON
TCS = 5
Skid recovery = up to you

with that alone it'll make thing easier.

I could usually pull 8-10 seconds on 2nd places throughout the entire championship.

Good luck!

I had not attempted the entire championship, but I had entered, and barely won, at both Monza and Suzuka. Yesterday afternoon, I turned ASM on, SRF on, turned TC to 5, equipped Soft Racing Tires, and entered the Championship without doing anything else to the car except for adjusting the transmission to a top speed that I thought that I might need for a particular track.

I found the car to be extremely easy to drive with these assists on, and easily won all the races. I had barely held on to win when I attempted Suzuka on a dry course. The final race in this championship was on a wet Suzuka course. I use the DFGT, and as soon as the race started, I cranked the Traction Control up to 8. The AI pitted after one lap to change tires, and I just kept on going at a very steady pace, consistently pulled away, and won the race by about 2-1/2 laps over second place. Most boring race ever.

as i have'nt got round to saving up the 5 mill credits needed is it even worth my while buying 1 of these?

I like the car ok. Doing the championship is like an endurance race with breaks after 20 laps. Which they had chose a REAL car like the Ferrari's for the F1 championship.

Although I have completed the FGT championship and got all golds, I absolutely hate that car. Especially when braking and turning a bit... so unstable. And when it's going sideways, it's going to go sideways whatever you do.
And that championship was no challenge for me... still won every race being about 10 seconds in front.

Hmm, I understand you. FGT is a major step up in difficulty compared with previous championships. After I finished, I was exhausted to death. Couldn't actually finish Suzuka, thankfully I beated all previous tracks, so still won.

I also think there's something wrong with the physics of that car (it's problably me, also). I have no problem driving a Minolta with TC off and golded the Top Gear Elise challange with TC off, but the FGT is giving me hard time. It just snaps into oversteer and even slight degrees are difficult to catch. I experimented with different settings, but not big difference. It's not impossible, but unrealistically difficult to control oversteer for a formula type car.

Of course, swithcing SRF on makes it automatically much easier if you want to go that way. I tried it without knowing it was on, but on the second lap I questioned the steepness of my learning curve, only to find that SRF was on :)

nothing to complain about, just use ABS, TCS and skid recovery force. adjust acceleration/transmission so you get the fastest lap times, use racing soft even at rain if you want to(hard to notice any difference).

I got gold on all events in a few tries, im using a Dualshock 3 and I'm too skilled either.

-Fuji is pretty easy, I have Aced it with a 10second lead 3/3 times.
-Indy is also pretty easy, there is one turn early in the track where the racing line tells you to break while can actually do full throtle, which gives you another second lead. If yu have dne the bonus event at this track you willtake this one easy at first attempt.
-Côte d'Azur is harder, the AI drives almost perfect. You can adjust your transmission to better acceleration. Smash into other cars till you are in the lead. If you are ever get more than 2 seconds behind the 1st you are probably screewed.
-Nürburgring is insanly easy because of a glitch which make your opponents spin out at the last chicane if you are not closeby. Or else you can drive into the rear bumper before a turn to make them miscalculate their apex and they will go out on the grass/sand. All the spinning AIs will also mess up the points, they are as often pretty randomly given so you will increase your lead with more than just 30 ;)
-Monza, just release the throttle abit or tap at the brake at the second chicane and win 2-3 seconds at that turn every lap. This is alot harder when it's raining.
-Suzuka, I have never liked this track, I drove it while it was raining, which makes it ALOT easier with in mind that the AI pits at first lap and that drive VERY slow. But it's possible to ship this one if you have "golded" the other tracks.

This is what works for me, hard racing tires in the front , soft in the back, this keeps the car for spinning out of an apex, brakes 8 front ,5 rear TC 6 full down force, I also stretched out the max speed just a little to give me a higher rev through the gears.

The FTG series is the best one in GT5. End of story.
That's the only non-event serie that is a bit challenging and that you cant really cheat by using an overpowred car.

IMO, the best in the game.
Yup. Only problems are the rubber-banding and AI screwing up constantly at the Nurb chicane.

The races should be longer and more numerous as well.

The actual car and races I found enjoyable.

The problem for me was finding about 3 hrs spare time to do the series. Why oh why can't we save in between races is beyond me. I can honestly say unless a patch allows saving during the enduros that I just wont find the time to do them, as I don't want to leave my PS3 on with the game paused for extented periods of time.

I had to use ASM to complete it used a D-pad at first and won but then used a wheel which makes it a white wash and not so competative.. Won the first 5 and then just strolled around Suzuka . By lap 17 i had had enough so i waited for the clock to tick down and be lapped. Odd thing happened the AI slow down to the equivalent of a Penguin walking with a diaper around it's ankles pace and the race does not finish until you complete 20 laps , once you start up again and catch back to lap them they start up again and you loose obviously but how trash is that to programme it that way. Also if i pushed to gain time on them i could gain around 6 to 8 secounds per lap once i caught them they would speed up again. This is programmed to compete against you aggressively if you are in a challenging position otherwise they pace right down. Pretty poor event i thought. Either it should just maintain the pace or drop behind once you lead just like the others do.I also won the first 5 on B-Spec and skipped the 6th i was NOT awarded the Championship so i have to do it again 6 hours of mundane racing huggghhh !My Bob's are going to love me !

I LOVED THIS SERIES.

The 20 qualifying laps bam bam bam one after another, I've never been SO into a game as I was during this series. I use a DS3 so I know you can do it bud, you just need to 100% focus your attention on this and you'll love it :)

I enjoyed the series too. I used DFGT with no assists, apart from ABS at 1. Didn't really find it all that difficult, just practice and get used to driving the car. :)

Not alone at all, I hated that Championship. As someone has already mentioned, using aids such as skid recovery really helps a lot 👍

Don't enjoy the series. Mostly by the fact that I have to have at least 3 hours ready ahead of me. I don't know when that will happen since I'm a family father

This could be very well the last series I'll have to drive after everything else is done. Knowing, that we'll be given a cheap and useless car for the effort (Caterham or something) doesn't make me all too keen

I've only just got this car and I'm looking forward to taming her. I started off by practise lapping Suzuka and now I can just about keep up with the lead on Fuji (no aids at all). All I need to do is stop going off and it should be easy. 100 laps with no mistakes is a challenge I'm very much looking forward to!

However this champ, more than all of them put together, shows how badly the qualifying feature is needed.

I suspect that was implemented so you can't scam for Aspec points/credits. In real life, when the winner crosses the line, everyone completes thier lap and the race is over. If that was the case in GT5, you could drive one lap but park before the finish line, put on the parking brake and go get some coffee/do some cleaning/do homework/write your thesis etc. Come back when the AI finish and simply roll across the line to pick up a small amount of credits, but in prospect a fairly decent amount of Aspec points.

In fact, I believe this is still possible with the time limit endurance races. You could do the 9 hour Tsukuba or 4 hour Nurbugring in your sleep, literally, and get aspec points for finishing 1 lap?

didn't enjoy the series, I dont like the car... got gold on it and will probably never return.

After getting my butt kicked around about a dozen times, including checking out Jorday's post -- https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/showthread.php?t=147815 -- and getting my heinie handed to me a dozen more times, I must say I am loving to hate it. I am levels 26a/35b, but most of my wins (pretty much all) have been by maxing out my cars and being 50-100% more powerful than all the other cars on the track. It's fun to slaughter the competition, but it makes a lazy driver. Being equally matched to competitors in a car as powerful and skittish as this, in a competition like this, will only make me a better driver. It may make me fookin' crazy, and my wife HATES the game at this point (maybe she just hates me cussing at the television), but I WILL make gold, and when I am done I know it will have been my driving, and not the fact that I'm pitting a Ferrari against a Yaris.

There are some people who, if they could, would press a magic button which would give them gold in everything, and all the cars, and level 1000. But what fun would that be? It's frustration which makes the game fun.

But yes, I hate this #$% car, and the whole competition! Long live GT5!

You just contradicted yourself completely.

I hate the GT series. Everyone hyped up the damn FGT and it sucks to drive. My retard Bob has put almost 16k on the thing grinding.

I personally love the FGT. I, however, tried the FGT series with no aids on. I thought it was extremely easy. It just requires you to have extreme focus and concentration. Unfortunately, that just doesn't fly with me. I never bothered finishing it.
Same with the X2010. Lots of fun to drive, but i cant do it for more than 30 mins.
However, if you guys want an easy win for FGT series, try the following:
ABS 1
Skid recovery force: on
TCS: off (no need if you have "the force")

Make sure you tune your brakes accordingly on every track.

I *really* miss the GT3 Formula cars...Much more fun to drive...

And yes, I've grown to hate the series as well (still trying to get that gold on Suzuka)

I managed to win the Indy infield course with my usual settings, but then I said screw it and just turned on a bunch of driving aids and breezed through the rest of the races. Twenty laps is a bit long, but that didn't really bother me too much.

Lol the FGT is the most fun and best car to drive, i really like driving it, corners easy

The FGT is one of the best cars in the game period. The FGT series is also the MOST fun and competitive series in the entire game. Its finally a race where you have to be on your game for 20 solid laps with the ai directly behind you. I don't understand how that could not be fun unless you are a 1000hp viper in sunday cup kinda guy. Just use some of the setups listed here on this forum and take a little time to drive the car before just entering the race.

100% agree! I loved qualifying and being able to get a test lap or two in and do any adjustments needed to the car! Just like "REAL" racing!

As far as this series goes. Yes the car sucks, if you do not use a wheel it's worse! It was a way better car in GT4! I don't know why is pushes like a pig and then snaps at times with over steer on the same corner using the same speed and line!

One thing that has helped me is using aids and hard or medium tires on the front with soft tires on the rear, and tuning for each track! Another thing that made the car work well was to use all the Ferrari F1 settings for the suspension and diff! The -5 toe on the front and +5 toe on the rear really helped, but if you use the Ferrari settings you must use the same grade of tires front and rear!

This race was a pain but I did manage to get it done, I just need to gold Suzuka!

I don't enjoy this car at all to be honest. I haven't done the championship in A-Spec yet.

However, Bob's done the B-Spec one, and I'd just let him go and try and win it himself. Some were easy (though all but one or two seemed to require a really late pit stop).

He can't win the Cote D'Azzur by himself (he got 4th on mine)...but he was doing quite well, until the penultimate race. He was leading, he had to come in for a pit stop with 5-10 laps to go...that was fine, because most of the field came in after him. One car kept going and took the lead, but he would have to pit later. As Bob roled into the pits, I watched it give the amount of petrol he would take in (which they always calculate right). 35 litres would see him to the end of the race (I assumed). Yet somehow, he roled out of the pits again. He had taken on 0 litres of fuel. Fantastic. I said to myself, as long as he can get one clean lap here without running out of fuel, he can refil then, and not finish last.

A quarter of the lap in, he runs out. He then faces a prospect of finishing the lap, very slowly, then pitting again. Without considering the implications, I quit the race. Regretted it immediately, as it left Bob needing to gain 60 points on the first place guy to win the tournament. Luckily he was able to...he won, and the series leader finished last (lol). I was just relieved I didn't have to do it again.

And all I could think of after, was why the hell did my pit crew forget to add the petrol....idiots haha. Now I just need to gold the two events he hasn't managed to win, by ushering him through them.

It's perhaps the only good race in A-Spec. However, the only thing I did not like was the lack of practice and qualify. When I went into Fuji, the car was loose. I could have fixed that if I was allowed to set the car up with some practice laps before the race instead of just guessing.

Turn on tcs and skid, that'll help. the tcs alone helped me alot
