Am I missing something here. Look folks.., I've been a gamer since the early days of Atari. My first console racing game was Pole Position :scared: I've owned MANY racing titles between then and now. I'm not a fanboy of ANY title or console--I own them ALL 👍

Alrighty.., the AI has me completely dumbfounded in this title. I mean no disrespect to anyone here.., but the AI in this title has some real issues.

1: Rubber-banding is certainly present and very "obvious" during races.
2: Vehicle classification (or performance level) means nothing for the AI vehicles.
3: Oddly you have to "upgrade" a vehicle to compete against other AI vehicles (that you outclass/perform).

Example:

In the Am. Euro Hatchback races.., rubber-banding AI slaps you in the face. For this race I purchased the Alfa Romeo 2006 Br. Sky. This is a vehicle with nearly 250 HP and 220+ ft lb's of torque. Not to mention an ALL WHEEL DRIVE model. Based on the Alfa's specs in comparison with the other AI vehicles.., clearly there was no need for any modifications or upgrades. WRONG!

On the start the Romeo did as it should (freaking dusted the AI). However.., even though a considerable gap was placed between me and the AI.., once again on the straights the AI caught up with NO problems. At a moment when I should have clearly had the lead with ease.., I found myself battling it out with a freakin 2003 Renault Megane (mind you this vehicle has only 212 HP). What was more crazy is that this 06 Romeo got dusted by a 2007 Mini S. The mini was GONE..., and it was clearly hitting corners with speeds that should have sent it off the track.

So.., I find myself now having to spend more credits to upgrade a vehicle (that shouldn't have to be). It out performs EVERY vehicle within the race.., but yet I have to waste credits to make a vehicle (that's already more than
competitive) more competitive.

Don't get me wrong.., I love the game.., but the AI in this title (IMO) really makes no sense.

Anyone else find themselves having to upgrade a car (that shouldn't need it)?

You will find your answer from the Nascar Special events. I don't remember what is called but it has to do with aerodynamic friction.

Dude, I share your sentiments. I'm completely baffled by the AI. I'm a 10 year GT veteran and I just don't understand the logic with this game sometimes. I'm still questioning some of the game physics myself. I'm sorry, but pulling the e-brake on rear wheel drive car going 22 mph in a straight line, will NOT cause it to whip a 180-270. Hell, I've pulled e-b's in my cars over the years going 40+ and not so much as a wiggle...unless you crank the wheel, in which case, hold on! Yeah, it's a fun game but, sometimes it doesn't make any sense. Whatever, it's just a game I guess.

Racing Soft tyres and adjustable gear box a must. You could then get round the corners and set the gears for more top end, stuff al cash used and they won't catch you now.

Sorry.., but this really isn't applicable in this situation. It applies when you're racing vehicles that are all "properly" competitive against each other. In which case.., friction, aerodynamics, tuning, ect are vital to squeezing every ounce of performance out of a vehicle.

However.., in this case it doesn't really apply because you have a vehicle that outclasses and outperforms the lot.., yet it is outperformed by vehicles that shouldn't be much competition at all.

I could do that.., but I shouldn't have to..., that's my point.

A good example.., my old 2008 Chevy Aveo is (or was) no match for my wife's 2010 Mitsubishi Lancer (loaded with the sports package). To make it competitive I'd have to "upgrade" the Aveo to compete. In this title it's assbackwards. Lower class vehicles are outperforming higher class vehicles.

As said above.., it's just a game though.

Also.., cant' really be too hard on Polyphony for this anyways. Honestly NO ONE is doing the AI well these days. It seems that all of the developers have gotten into this rut of (over emphasizing AI ability to make them competitive). Some are really noticeable.., and others are not. Forza-3 is a good example..., the AI rubber-bands as you increase in difficulty..., and it also has adaptive AI. 9 times out of 10 (regardless) of what the PI index is on your vehicle.., in the higer difficulty settings the RED car is adaptive.

have you checked the weight of the cars that might also be a factor. Although rubber banding is ridiculous in this title.

That's a good point..., but yeah I've compared the ratio of HP to Torque an also factored in weight. It's no biggie.., I'll just throw on better tires.., and add a few more horses to the Alfa... It's just odd that I have to do this :indiff:

I have a tendency to not add anything other than soft tires and the drivetrain parts. If I add a turbo kit or anything else I find the races really boring. The biggest factor in winning a race is your braking points. I beat the extremely overpower car in a Ferrari with 600+hp at Indy since I just don't hit the breaks.

Your Alfa is not a faster car.

Alfa 250 hp/ 1750kg
Mini Cooper S 211hp/1180
Megane 212/1230kg

You have about 20% more hp, but your car weighs about 50% more. Also, the AI is using sport hard tires for that series, did you upgrade to those?

I just beat the AI in that series on the Rome course with a stock vw gti 193 hp/1336 kg with sport hards by 5 seconds and I'm not that good and it wasn't even a good run.

err... sorry. Clearly you havent looked at WEIGHT. I bought that Alfa recently and modded it like crazy. Not only is it a heavy pig but it handles like a POS. (beautiful car though). The Renault and espeically the MINI are MUCH lighter. Also, lower class vehicles beating higher class vehicles means nothing in a racing game. Just because an Alfa is more money than a Megane or Cooper doesnt mean its gonna win. thats like saying a Maybach 62 is going to beat a Lotus Elise in race because its 15X more expensive.

I own a Cooper S and its alot quicker than any other current car for the same amount of horsepower, and it can keep up with some that have more HP just because its lighter.

Exactly. The Brera doesn't handle all that well. A Mini handles very well

Also, many of the AI cars are tuned up. A stock MkIV Golf GTI has 200hp, but in the FWD Championship or whatever it has 252hp
