Just curious about this as I recently completed the game 100%, and golded every event.
It took me one year, six months, but I play other racing games as well, In fact I now have eleven platinum trophy's [all racing games] on my account !

Vettel challenges where very hard for me, But I still did them legit, Can't believe the amount of threads on here about how to glitch them, There is no way I was going to resort to to such cheating .

Father Jack levels of steely determination you have there.

Time to take your Dreamy Sleepy Nightie Snoozy Snooze, the "alcoholic chocolate sleeping aid"

Well done on the trophey.

You are twice my age, and you are still playing video games, better still one that I love. Screw social security, you have made my future seem that much more secure..

Nice work 👍, but there might be a few guys here to challenge you.

Pong which was one of the first video games was released in 1972. Don't know how old you are, but that means that there were people playing video games 34 years ago, which means that Topracer was about 21 years old when pong came out.

So to all the guys out there blown away that 55 and 60 years old are playing GT5, you might want to look at it another way, they have probably been playing videos games longer than many of you have been alive.

Not just video games, take some X-games' sports for example, skateboarders in the mid-70s were already riding empty swimming pools, and BMXing on Schwinn Stingrays and similar bicycles not made for the abuse, and snowboarding was already taking off in the late 70s in Tahoe and Vermont.

Most of those guys are in the 50 to 60 year range now too.

I know there are plenty of people over the age of 50 still gaming, I was just pointing TopRacer in the direction of a thread where there are few that have identified themselves.

No negativity intended, just pointing out that a lot of the 50 and 60 years olds were young once too and were already doing the same stuff years ago that a lot of the younger forum members have grown up with and take for granted.

No problem.

The difference being that the older generation (I'm in the middle, age 29) had a somewhat different level of expectation of games. It still boggles my mind that it was only 15 years ago that saving a game on a console was a novel idea.

Are you serious, saving games has been commonplace since Zelda 2,
released in 1988 on the NES, that's 24years ago, and before that all you had to do was enter a code, to continue at the level u left off at in a game. It boggles your mind, hyperbole much?
And OP, I don't know if your the oldest player to platinum Gt5, but I do know that your old enough to know better than to create a thread that asks such a pointless and unproveable question.
Are you boasting or something?

56 here and playing every night (almost) from the beginning of the Gran Turismo series and loving it:tup:

Well, Topracer, kudos to you. You were probably always an awesome gamer - from the time of Pong! Guess as a teen you kicked ass real hard - and now at 55 you are still doing it - maybe even more wizardly. Scary. That gives hope, I guess, to some of the younger gamers here that they will only get better if they keep at it. Most of the gamers from our peer group have fallen by the wayside, and never touch a game anymore. Some of us still play, casually beating games as we go along. Obviously most of the younger gamers who play now will eventually give up gaming and never touch a controller again (or for that matter the coming Virtual thought-controlled head-sets.) But some of these younger gamers will not stop playing, will go on to play till the controllers of that time are pried out of their rigor-mortis stiffened fingers.
They can brag. They'll have a right to. They are Platinum material. At any age.
As for anybody older than you that has platinumed - there is, I believe, a 'Platinum' Thread - though I'm not sure who the oldest there was. No one asked. But I guess you have, now.

Cheers,
Harry.

What a helmet!

Just turned 49, but by the time I platinum GT5, I might very well be older than 55 :p

Sheesh you're a barrel of laughs aren't you? OP isn't boasting, I think he's genuinely curious, as that is quite an age to platinum the game at. There's no way I will, as there's no way i'll gold the Vettel challenges (although admittedly i'm also not inclined to try as I don't enjoy them). Give the guy a break would you?

I think it's pretty inspiring. I've been playing computer games since 1983, i'm 38 now, I hope I am still playing when I am 55 and beyond, and still "competitive". Incidentally, you could save your position in games way before 1988 (particularly text adventures on home computers which loaded/saved to audio cassette or floppy disk), but that's beside the point.

Kudos to you OP!

Yeah apologies guys, very drunk post pub post.
Not an easy platinum so well done.

Now I'm gonna wait 40 years just to beat that record... I am 16, so there's time to practice some events such as Eiger Alfa's 👍

Lol :)

At 16, I was playing Namco's new racer "Pole Position 2" in the arcades, 10p a go. Happy days. Games have changed a bit since 1984.
