Am I the only one who enjoys driving slow cars?

I'm serious when I say this, but I really don't like driving the JGTC or Leman cars (Or F1 cars in GT3).. I find that most of the time, it's just test of my precise reaction times, rather than driving philosophy (for want of a better term)..

I much prefer to drive a relatively standard (at the moment the Ginetta G4, check my 1000 mile thread :)).. That way you can really get into the perfect apex for corners, and getting your line spot on, and continue to go for that perfect lap.. With the really quick cars, I find that reguardless, I always make some mistake, purely as the breaking points, and turning points appear and disappear so quickly.. They're not as forgiving as the slower cars..

Is this just me? Am I the only one? Or is there anyone else out there who found the most enjoyable race in GT3 was the standard MX5 endurance race :D

I totally agree about the Ginetta, adore the Elan, love the Elises...

The light boxes are more competetive than one would think.
Best of the US classics so far: 69 Stingray.

I like the moderately powerful cars, I found racing my Nismo 400R very enjoyable. Seems theres more involvement in getting the perfect apexes whereas in the faster cars you can 'stop on a dime' as it were then just adjust slightly and fly off again in the blink of an eye.

I love driving all cars, slow and fast, I have only modified 4 cars (I have 50+).

I drive everycar I own nearly all my cars have 40km's+ on them, The Ginetta G4 is a great car IMHO, I enjoy driving it.

heh, well said!

check my real "garage"

not to say I wouldn't love to have a go with a GT3 or a 430, but esp. on a track like the 'Ring there is enough going on to make a 9 minute lap interesting...

cheers
Kurt

No, you are not alone.
I'm actually rwally enjoying to drive the CLK DTM D2 Race Car with S2 tires and no other upgrades. It's quite fun 👍

I'm currently running around in the Autobianchi and the Skyline 2000GT-B ('67 I think) and I love them. I like to experience all the game has to offer and drive all the cars from the slowest on up. I may get my butt handed to me on numerous occasions but I really enjoy the experience.

I'd say most people like driving the slowest thing they can get by with. The 2nd time I played GT3 I only spent $225,550 on upgrades the whole game. It's just a factor of wanting some competition in the earlier stages of the game. Running beginner events with a race car doesn't make any sense. If you just get excited about seeing progress on your status screen, you might as well just enter every race in B-Spec with the fastest qualified car you can.

In GT3 I'd have to say my favorite car was the Elise 190 which I never even upgraded the brakes/suspension/transmission (how sad that I can no longer use the term "tranny" on the Internet). Calling the Elise a slow car is definitely subjective, though. I used it in the Pro British GT Cup, Amateur Turbo, Amateur MR Challenge and Pro Spider/Roadster, so it's not very slow at all.

I like driving the Del Sol in the beginner stuff just because that's my car IRL.

One of the most fun challenges I had in GT3 was doing the Lightweight Cup with a 72HP Alto Works with nothing but oil, an intercooler (really needed that extra 6HP) and a flywheel. Now I'm pissed I can't find my replays I saved from that -- the hooptie-on-hooptie drafting action at Super Speedway was great. Laguna Seca is just silly when the whole field can take the corkscrew at full-throttle.

Driving really slow cars with minimal upgrades can be really cool. I remember the Roadster Endurance in the stock Miata prize car (from the licenses) in GT3 without tires or oil. At first it seemed really hard, but once I got the hang of it it was really easy. It's not the same sort of driving you do with a fast car when you're just worried about your braking point; it's more about drafting, conserving speed, and keeping the tires from squealing.

I wouldn't call the Viper GTSR Concept a slow car, but it's another thing that's very interesting to try completely stock with plain tires in certain events. It was really overkill for the PD Cup, but the Pro FR Challenge was a pretty good race for it. I think a lot of people get good tired before they do anything else even if they are trying to make things challenging, but it's interesting to use bad ones sometimes.

No you're not the only one. I prefer driving the production cars in the game as opposed to the race cars. If I have to tune a car to make it more competitive in a diffcult race, I only buy tuning peices that I can remove later on (exhaust, ecu, turbo/supercharger etc.) -- and when I go back to test drive them, I remove all of the modifications and drive the car on N2 tires. If I want to drift, I use N1 tires.

I like the slower cars as well, as they're good for learning racing lines and techniques. Also, the when the car lacks power compared to the rest of the competition, it make the race more of a challenge.

It proves that you don't always need 600+ BHP for a good car. The Triumph Spitfire 1500 is bearable enough on straights, and can be fun around bends. Also, the Beetle 1100 is one of the slowest cars in the game, but it still likes to slide around corners.

The reason GT is so amazing to me is not because of the racing aspect
(although I love it) it is the driving for fun. I love any car, fast slow, ugly, sexy, doesn't
matter, as long as it is fun to drive. Now with photomode, this is enhanced and I now get to drive and then take pictures. IT'S AWESOME!

I like driving cars between 250 and 500 horsepower, but drivind an LMP is always a blast.

and thanks to the inclusion of Nurburgring, we can have a small taste of having a open road driving option... that would be cool for GT5, mountain roads with real traffic... overtake, get to your lane, mmm, needs lots of AI...

I don't really like the race cars either, those NSX race cars feel like Remote Controlled toy cars to me... doesn't really satisfy my idea of what driving is like... they might drive like that for real, but it goes against the idea I had of racing.

I totally agree. The most fun I have had with the game was spending a day collecting all the pre-1985 Nissans, modding them a bit and then doing a 5 lap time attack at Laguna Seca to see what I could get the best lap time with. Once I get my funds built back up I'm going to start adding other brands.

My favorites so far:
Mazda AZ-1
Honda Ballade CRX 1.5
'64 Skyline 1500 Deluxe (slower, but more nimble than the 2000GT-B IMO)
Fairlady 280Z-L
Honda S800

Can't wait to try:
Toyota 800 Sport
The OLD Celica
Spitfire modified a bit (stock it's fun, but I haven't tried taming the snap oversteer)
Suzuki Cappucino (everyone raves about this one, I haven't bought one yet)

Disappointed by:
Ginnetta G4 (mine won't stop and understeers, I probably just need to tweek it more)
'69 Bluebird 1600 Deluxe (I own a real one and the game doesn't do it justice)

LOL, well I fear that the old British brakes on the G4 are the root of the problem here. They weren't known for great stopping power IIRC. Strange though that you say it understeers. I can't seem to keep mine straight (at least at speeds over 120mph) and I'm working on getting it settled down.

I like 'em slow... I love the Civic Del Sol with racing muffler, racing suspension and Tranny, that's it...

Is not as good as in GT2, but I always love that car.

My preferred starting car on GT2 and GT3 has been the Miata, great balance in tight turns. GT4's Miata is more difficult to work with, but I'm getting there.

Now, I'm very impress with the BMW's in GT4, including the 2002 turbo.

The 2CV ownz ya!

<edit>

On a more serious note... I love the <cencored> out of those 70s & 80s cars.
The 80s used car lot is my favorite stomping ground in the game :D

The first car I've bought was the Spitfire, since I've used to own one a couple of years back. I fully tuned it now (NA, no turbo, doesn't suit the car) and having a blast with it! I'm not a driftkid, but going sideways on autum ring in the trumpet brings back memories ;)

I refuse to drive any car with more than 50 HP. Actually I don't, but I just can't help myself sometimes.

I lapped the 'Ring twice with that old-school Midget (12HP, 18:04 laptime), it's no-brakes around the entire course and you only need to let off the throttle for Wehrseifen, the rest can be taken at full throttle... :D

Greetings.
Well I'm another who prefers the lower hp cars. I think my favorite is my ever so lightly modded sileighty (wing, stage 1 turbo) on N2 tires. Its an absolute blast on Nurnburgring :)

I personally like driving both versions of the Toyota Prius. They're so cool to drive! Just trying to drive on the Nurburgring with the 02' Prius is enough of a challenge (you don't want to run out of battery power!)

Wow!!! I hadn't tried the Prius. That dash display is cool.

Did the 'Ring in 11:17.XXX. But only used .677 gallons of fuel. The battery got low through the twisties, but recharged on the long straight near the end. Had 70% battery as I coasted across the finish line.

Too bad there isn't an Economy Challenge in GT4. :)

100% agreed! i have at least a million cr. but what i really enjoys are driving in my stock 01 Honda S2000 on infineon... :) thats just sooooo cool! and really enjoyable!

The only reason I'm thinking about buying a Mazda Protege in GT4 is because that's my beater car/grocery getter in real life! I've tried it a few times, but the Boxster really isn't cut out to load a bunch of groceries in the front/rear trunks. Can't say if the Protege in the game is like the one I have in real life, but I'm looking forward to trying it out with perhaps N1 or N2 tires.

The problem with the under-powered cars is that there aren't many fun races that they can compete in. I do enjoy the equal precision that low powered cars require, that is, momentum. But, when I want a rush I still flog my F1 car on the berg.

hmm from what i see in the responces it seems a number of you like easyer to drive cars that provide a tougher challange in races. i wonder if you would be as opposed to faster cars if the AI was actualy a challange.

on the subject im more of a mid powered car fan i dont like goin 2 miles an hour but the super high power cars do seem a bit too easly controled synthetic almost. one of my fav cars is the shelby 427 cobra (especaly fun in this GT than others IMO ) the jag e type OMG finaly they have this car in tha game and daymn its nice, the 300sl ofcorse and the origional vette is pure heaven but i also like 350z of all makes and silvia s15 areo and just about any subaru the 360 is a bit slow for me tho. all of these cars i like not for the challange of the races but the actual driving exspierience. im also partial to the classic musscle the cuda 440 is just awesome i can go on and on but ill quit rambling now

I did the exact same thing once I got it. It's the little truck from FFVII, how could I not?

Just tried this one, but decided I wanted to see if the battery could last a lap pushing as hard as possible. Did a 10'14 lap, and it was at about 10% :scared:

I'm a big fan of the little slow cars, but I do enjoy a well-sorted fast car. Nearly all the JGTC cars put a smile on my face, and so does the 787B.
