I see people constantly crying on this forum about having to grind starting around level 20... Well I have reached level 24 and I haven't grinded once! If I need to level up I just go do a Special Event. I don't see the point in repeating the same event over and over, when you could just do the Special Events :S.

But if you've finished all special events, you have to return to the normal races since you don't get XP from re-doing the Specials ;).

If I've already done all the specials I'd be way higher then level 25 and there would be no need to grind...

Yeah well I'm at lvl 20 now adn I only have to do AMG expert, Rally medium and hard, Loeb Chamonix for gold ( I have silver) and one NASCAR event.. I don't think if I finish them all I got lvl 25..

I have done all the special events that my lvl allows, and I am stuck at lvl 20 with the only thing left to do is grind out the same race for 5 hrs to get to the next lvl.

Oh yeah when I get there I still can not compete with the lvl 23 cars I am racing against because I can not BUY ONE!! Unless of course they magically appear in the used car dealership. If they do i will have to spend half my credits just to afford one because these racing do not pay anything.

What a joke!

Reading the thread about the xp system horrorshow had me wondering too. Most people were complaining about doing an Indy race 8675309 times to level up, but one or two guys said they haven't done any grinding at all (like junpeix555 is at Level 26 and never did the same event twice), because they had gotten gold in almost every single event. Which means the game only rewards the quickest drivers and punishes everybody else with grinding.

But do you have gold in all those special events?

Gold in every event up the first one in extreme, gold in all licenses up to s, gold and silver in almost all specials that I am allowed in, a couple of bronzes in Rally,(i do not like that racing)

Fact is the XP and cars that are available are a joke, Sony is betting you will just keep playing. I do not have the time to sit and grind, it stupid. As i win races and progress I should be rewarded with the cars I need to race at the next level and enough cash to buy them.

Oh yeah and not have to wait for the magical car genie to have them appear in the used car dealer.:yuck:

Yep, that is the mindset people have today, thanks to society.

No one wants to put in time or work to get what they want, they just want everything handed to them on a silver platter.

Welcome to the instant noodle and microwave food age?

I agree. The harder specials give a lot of XP. Haven't had to grind just yet, and wont need to for a while by the looks of things. I'm at 21.5.

Really! its a GAME! I have a job already, i do not need another one sitting in front of my console for 4 hrs trying to get a decent car or move to the next level. I did the work by winning the events, problem is I am not rewarded enough to move on to the next level, and that's not right.

Gee, I wonder how this game would have turned out if Infinity Ward would have done it?, I still have not put down Modern Warfare 2.👎

This sounds so strange to me. I got all gold licence and all gold specials (minus the last AMG), level 23 and never ever needed to repeat any A-spec event - and I'm only half way though Expert Events, which leaves me alot more races to do, before I need to 'grind'

So, considering that, and the things you guys are saying - you must be doing something wrong.

Don't blame the game if you don't know how to play it.

There are plenty of people who have jobs and families who feel the same way. GT4 was hard but fun to do even if it took years. People are getting stuck, bored and annoyed around the level 25 in GT5 and you say it is their fault? Bravo GT elite player, way to lump people together.

I think you will find to your dismay that this problem will get bigger as more people hit that level. What will you do then, oh wait you might just be among the next wave of disenchanted.

I started grinding around level 26. I'm 29 right now.
If you do things right, you shouldn't have to start grinding until around level 25.

Yes it is a game, and can be described as a hobby. It took me 2 years to build my own engine, fuel system, and tune but you know what, it is a hobby. It is something you do on the side with your spare time, and oh my god is it satisfying. I'd much rather take 2 years to build up to something I can call mine rather than have everything done for me, requiring minimal work from myself.

It takes patience and discipline to get what you want, how you want it. If you don't have the time to throw down on a side hobby, then perhaps you should look at a more arcade racer.

"Built not bought"

So now the game requires you to play in a specific way to find the fun past level 25. The problem is about to hit you in 2 levels and you are ignorant of it still.

Nonsense. It's perfectly fine if you have to work hard to achieve progress in a game. I love hard games. You just keep going and going until you beat it.

Grinding however is NOT the same as working hard to beat a game. The hard work needs to be rewarded. After finishing a really tough event there should be an even tougher event and this should go on until the game is beaten completely. Having to repeat the same exact thing over and over again is poor game design. It's as simple as that.

I'm hoping they'll eventually remedy this by adding new events through DLC. I sure as hell won't grind. I'm not at the point yet where it's needed but if I ever get to the point where I have gold in everything and all there's left is grinding I'll have to put this game down. I'll be better off playing new titles.

Oh yeah, I'm completely wrong, what was I thinking? I must just be too stupid to figure it out, how did I ever get to level 21?

It is the game, and I am not the only one saying it, look at the boards and forums, everyone is complaining about the credits and Xp system. The used cars are a joke, the XP grind is unfair and unneeded, the cash is far to small, and the events are too few.

You should be able to level up as you win, and as you do this you should be able to purchase the cars necessary to compete at that next level. Grinding, is a way of life in this game if want a 4 mil$ car.

Its a joke and sad because the racing is superb, the cars you do have are fun, and the graphics are incredible.:indiff:

And this is supposed to make people who are at level 27 and up feel better how? You think the game is not going to start feeling restricted to you soon?

I can clearly see that the problem will apear at level 27-28 doing endurance races - but before that, I'm sure I don't need to 'grind'.

Yeah, the game is linear - but you got an option when you low on levels: Do the events / licences / specials you haven't done yet instead of complaining that you cant continue A-spec events without grinding - or you can continue complain ;-)

I have not blamed anyone, it is just the way our fast paced society today has created a new mindset. I too get extremely frustrated staring at the microwave for 60 seconds :)

I disagree - If I'm able to, and you aren't - clearly all those complaining is doing it wrong.

Also, its ignorent to say there is a small credit problem - I have 7 million without grinding - simply because I'm playing the game, which means I also do B-spec (where I need the same cars). And mind you that its 7 million without selling any cars - have around 130 now.

I think I am just going to have to enjoy where I am at with the game and not be concerned with GETTING somewhere. I like the racing, but to me its just a game, and I wish I could play all of its aspects before I move onto the next one.

Do not get me wrong, if I did not like it so much I would not be so frustrated at the process, I want to see whats around the corner. Right now when I want to play a game and I look at the stack GT5 is not as enthralling as it was a week ago.

I think, this is a huge con of a leveling system. People you and I alike will probably see it as progress, and when that progress slows exponentially, it is frustrating, and people don't think they are "leveling up". Where technically, you are getting better at the game, you are knowing more about characteristics of cars etc, there is always something to learn, it shouldn't necessarily be about acquiring this car or this level, but what you can learn and enjoy in between.

But I agree with the lack of events, and I can see how B-Spec does not appeal to everyone, but then again nothing appeals to everyone.

Yeah, you are probably right, you never will cover everyone. I have a PC built specifically for online racing with GTR2 which I enjoy a lot for its technical expertise, but the PS3 is so much smoother. I guess I just see this console as an arcade type system still.

To each his own, I guess I will just have to enjoy what I can, because it seems I am in the minority.:)

My system is simply play make money and build cars to play online with friends.... you gotta take a break from the "grind". Once I return to Japan/reality racing in about 3 months.. Ill hardly play anymore.

I have all gold in specials, all gold in licence, all gold in all events up to extreme where I have the historic race left.. and finished the first (300 km grand valley) endurence. no grinding at all, lvl 26. but its getting harder now :-)

My B-Spec level is up to 22 and I've done no grinding with them. And I still have a few lvl 22 races to go, which will surely put me into lvl 23. And of course, there is no Special Events for B-Spec.
FYI, I have gotten Gold in every single event with the exception of the #2 Nascar race. The best my Bob can do there is 10th place!
It makes no sense to me. My Bob is skilled, I obviously have a good handle on calling moves, I modified the setup as needed for that track, and on top of that all the Nascars have 830 HP, but the special one that came in my pre-order had 850 HP and after I did the engine rebuild it had 900 HP. He blew away the field in the other Nascar races, but just can't get anywhere on the #2 track and I have no idea why?

Another theory about the lack of XP and credits, could be that some players take overkill cars (cost alot) for the events and overtune (cost alot) them, so they win the event right away - making them lack credits and only get XP once from that event.

Instead, get a car that equals the AI for the specific event, and don't overtune it. Try and win it, and if you can't win, don't leave the race, complete it, get the small amount of credits and XP, and then find a different car or tune it a little, and try again. Makes your races more exciting aswell, as you'll have to bring all your skills you learned from licences and get a thrill out of it - while having a healthy economic and you get better at close racing.

Also, try to use the preize cars, instead of buying new cars - I think I only bought about 5 cars so far while level 23A and 29B
