just re-doing some old races for fun...and raced the Amateur league GT all stars race....

okay this race is easy...using a race car....but depending on the car you use you will get a field composed of race NSX, Supras CR5s etc....pretty fast stuff....

and for some reason the AI will stick a Lancer and/or Impreza rally car in the field....

while the actions of the AI is questionable at the best of times i would like to know, can anyone beat this race using a Lancer or Impreza rally car?...(not the Impreza LM)...

i have tried and got 5th but the Denso Supra is killing me here...

can anyone do it using a rally car? fully modded of course but not hybrided..

more specifically, the Laguna Seca race in this series...

yes, i find the Focus is the fastest IMO...but have you ever beaten that race with a rally car....more especially a Lancer Evo6 Rally car Tommi ?

Interesting thread, turbosmoke. I just ran a race against some race cars in an Imprezza Rally Car the other night .. I can't remember which series it was, but the opposition included an RX-7 Racecar and an FTO Racecar. It actually wasn't too tough to beat them around Grand Valley II for ten laps. The Imprezza really sticks to the road, so you can throw it around a bit. The hardest part is keeping the front tires on the car ;) I might give this a go later to see what happens ...

I ran this race many moons ago, but did it in a Corvette C5R, with an oil change and the NA stage 1 tune-up.

Took a few attempts to get by the AI and win, but managed to win the series.

The AI cheat an excessive amount in the amateur series. I could turn a fast lap around the test course at 1'51. Yet the AI, even 20+mph slower on the straights and 22mph slower on the corners was turning 1'52. When I slipped into second place, the AI laps dropped to 2'00+. The basic key to winning this race is staying out of the lead until near the end of the last lap. This way you conserve tire wear, and not force a haphazard race.

Good Luck

AO

cheers...

i have won this race last year some time....but i need a greater challenge....winning it with a rally car seems like a challenge because the AI places a rally car in the field....it always comes last when it controls it but i am trying to beat them with the rally car.....

its hard with the Lancer....

Wow ... great race! Ran the Subaru Imprezza Rally Car at Laguna Seca (the 2-Door one, not the prototype) with a Stage 2 Turbo (444hp cause I forgot to change the oil) and T1 tires.

The toughest competition was a Calsonic Skyline (a Zexel and a C5R were back there somewhere). He had me outright in the straights. Only two places to make up time, outbraking into the first turn, and outbreaking into the corkscrew. After the start got sorted out, I was 2.5xx behind. I worked away at him and passed him 3 times on lap 4 (and was promptly passed back on the next straight). I passed him into the corkscrew on lap 5 and held the lead to the finish, 1.6xx ahead.

By the end of the race my tires were still green, so I likely could have gone with T3's. I think the series would be winable in this car, but the last few races would be pretty tough.

That was so fun, I ran it again ;)

This time I changed the oil, put on T3 tires, and fiddled with the LSD's to get rid of some understeer.

The opposition this time was an Arta NSX, a Viper GTS-R, a C5R, the penzoil GT-R and a Calibra Touring Car.

Sad to say it wasn't even close, passed 4 cars in the first corner, and the rest by halfway through the first lap, winning by 14.xxx seconds.

A rally car could definitely win this series, and it could be made quite interesting by choosing the appropriate (or maybe inappropriate) rubber.

I wonder how this car would fare against a field that included an R390 or a 787B

well done,

i'll have to try this again tonight....

to race the R390 or 787b you'll ave to go to Pro mode....i doubt if you'll beat them in a rally car though....

kick thier ass in the Impreza LM race car though...960bhp....lovely:)

okay, i just walked the series in the Evo7 rally prototype....i must have been using the wrong car...the Evo7 has awesome cornering.

all except Rome II...how did you get on with this track?

I had the MINES SKYLINE but I think I sold it for some reasone and forgot to get it back. The other day I saw it while racing the Super Speedway Endurance and decided to get it back. I ran the Amateur All Star race in my fully modded LANCER EVO VII RS and it wasnt so hard. The only car I had problems with was the DENSO SUPRA. But I beat the race and got my SKYLINE back.;)

As someone mentioned, it seems Rally cars lack torque. I'd have to test it out, though. Never really raced a rally car (any rally car) in any race. Scratch that. Raced one rally, and lost horribly. Never driven one since...

PS: Der Alta, I was just wondering..where'd you get that avatar..the nearest thing I've seen to it was this. Anyways. Thats my 2 cents.

i will try that, but i dont believe they have the top speed to compete with the Arta NSX or the Denso Supra at this level...

even a fully modded rally car doesnt quite have the top speed to out do these cars in a straight line....these races are won on the corners and turns...

Now that it is mentioned I've noticed that to about that AI seemingly getting faster at certain times during a race.

As an example in the Amateur Japan GT series with no turbo upgrade on any of the GT500 cars I can pull lap after lap at a given time within .8 sec of eachother. In the beginning of the race I am gaining 2sec a lap but towards the end as tyre damage comes into play I am losing nearly .7 sec yet my times have not altered.

Put a stage 1 turbo upgrade and the same thing only more dramaticly in time. So on and so forth.

As far as the All Stars race if you want to have a go with a Rally car use the EVO Prototype with turbo upgrade.

From what I've heard, when you get ahead of the opposition cars, the computer puts a power multiplying catch-up effect on to keep the racing more even. Doesn't work though ;)

Thanks for your stunning insight but we're discussing the all stars race....
