The star VY Canis majoris is so big that if Earth was the size of a golf ball, the star would be Mount Everest.

It's amazing the sheer size of some of those stars out there, I'm amazed that we are unable to see them clearly in the sky

If they were even remotely close enough to be seen by the naked eye, much less clearly, the thermal radiation would not only burn-out the retina, but all life on Earth as well.
