I'm planning on buying a new cpu and motherboard some time soon, and have been told that my current memory might not work with it.
The new CPU is a:
AMD Athlon "Barton" XP3200+ 400FSB (Socket A)

Now to be honest i know very little about memory (which is the reason for the post)
and it would be a great help if anyone could tell me if my current memory would work.

I know there are two sticks of RAM, one is a 256, the other a 512. both are DDR and are fairly old.
The stick of 512 is a PC266, the 256 doesn't say but there is the number 2100 on the chips so that might have somthing to do with it.
also the current FSB is at 268, which i was told is important.. the attached image might help. it shows the system as it is now, which works fine. It's just a question of will it work after the upgrade? :)

Yes.

The 3200 has a 400MHz FSB, and with us knowing that atleast the 512MB stick is only 266MHz, and with that information I'm sure you can figure out this isn't going to work.

A question, though. Are you sure your motherboard can handle the 400MHz FSB?

Ok, thanks :)

and yes, i'm getting a new motherboard too

Do you have a motherboad in mind? One of the best is the ASUS A7N8X-E Deluxe. This is my motherboard and it has been great! Only 3 RAM, slots, though... Chhose Abit or ASUS for the motherboard manufacturer. They tend to be of higher quality. 👍
