I can’t stand how Charlie is being painted as some kind of martyr or free speech hero. He was never about free speech - that was just the excuse he used to be cruel. He built his whole persona on stirring up outrage and pushing harmful ideas, not defending principles. He wasn’t a champion of freedom. He was just a terrible person who hid behind it.

Sorry he was killed - and I absolutely do not endorse killing people - but boy is the world a better place without him. In theory at least - because his death seems to have somehow made him more dangerous.

And also... if saying:

  • Gay people should be stoned to death
  • Most people are scared when they see a Black pilot flying a plane
  • Taylor Swift should reject feminism and submit to her husband
  • No one should be allowed to retire
  • Leftists should not be allowed to move to red states
  • British colonialism was what "made the world decent"
  • The guy who assaulted the Pelosis should be bailed out
  • Religious freedom should be terminated
  • Multiple Black politicians "stole white people's spots"
  • MLK Jr. was "an awful person"
  • The Great Replacement Theory is reality
  • Hydroxychloroquine cures COVID
  • Vaccine requirements are "medical apartheid"
  • Gun deaths are acceptable in order to have a 2nd Amendment
  • Women's natural place is under their husband's control
  • Parents should prevent their daughters from taking birth control
  • George Floyd had it coming, the Jan. 6th protestors didn't
  • The 1964 Civil Rights Act was a "huge mistake"
  • Encouraged parents to protest mask mandates
  • Madani winning in NY is a travesty because Muslims did 9/11
  • Muslims only come to America to destabilize Western civilization
  • Palestine "doesn't exist" and those who support it are the KKK

is "free speech", then making light of his death also is.

Because there's no legal requirement for private citizens or entities to follow the flag code or orders? I'm just a guy on a computer and I know that. I also presume that the MAGA Party wants flag rules to be a legal requirement for every citizen.

They want freedom, but only how they define it!

Don't worry. He says he already knew (he was lying). This is just a purity test.

Chase Bank is FDIC-insured and that means they're subject to federal enforcement of the United States Flag Code. 🙃
They actually tried to pull this.

Someone who actually deserves remembrance (ignoring the politics, just for his contributions to cinema)

He had more famous roles and performances, but as a baseball nut he'll always be Roy Hobbs.

It shouldnt be so hard to understand that killing someone is wrong but that doesnt turn the killed in a wonderful person.
Kirk was a horrible man and the killer should pay for his acts.

Is as simple as that but we have to swallow lectures about how heavenly good was this man and all the "you are with us or with them" bull****

Each January 27th Cuba celebrates the "marcha de las antorchas" (which translates to torch march).
On that date, each citizen has to join the march with a torch to celebrate the birth of José Martí who was a poet adopted as a hero by the cuban revolution.

In theory, assistance to the march is not compulsory but it is well known that the communist party used to have watchers in each neighborhood to take notes on who attends and who dont just to see on what sides they are on (paraphrasing Vance Patrick)

The parallelism between this right wing conservatives and the communist they hate so much tells by itself.

Let me fix that for you.
I see this a lot but organized religion turns on its adherents selectively adhering. Christianity may be most prevalent given the vast array of Christian denominations. Adherents decide some part of the doctrine doesn't work for them and so they ignore it or they change it so that it does work for them and then they find others that agree with them. About the only consistency in all of Christianity is the urge to impose upon others, especially using state force.

I stopped back by this thread after a long absence from all of the gtp political threads. I wanted to see what the community's take was on the assassination of Charlie Kirk.

I was quickly reminded why I left these threads to begin with.

So many disgusting posts, mocking the death of a guy who lost his life advocating for open discussion with those he disagree with...

Disgusting
It’s ok. The ones actually in the US will be hunted down by your government and locked up. Free speech is now only free if it follows their rules.

Huh. Weird.

Did anyone save the receipts?

Also, I feel like the Kirk case might take years to get resolved. Not because of flimsy evidence, but more because the keystone kops might inadvertently hand the defense attorney enough ammo to have him not found guilty.

I got a call from my employer informing me that somebody tried to dox me and get me fired based on my Instagram activity. My account is private. Fortunately, I believe my employer was merely informing me, but I took action because apparently there was somebody following me that can't be trusted with civil discourse.

It's real.

What kind of a world do we live in when people think this is OK? I don't get it.

Tired and frustrated at the situation in the US, which is currently led by a totally corrupt administration

I am just going to leave this here:

Republicans/MAGA/right wing nuts/evengelicals/ultra and conservative / extreme right.... they can't even see the log that is on their own eyes, but worry about others' splitters. Republicans can't seem to accept or deal with the truth, so they make up their own fake news while projecting their own guilt, fears l, stupidity and ignorance onto others much smarter than them.... Republicans are total uneducated losers without any proper critical thinking skills.

You are welcome to peel the onion and counter me if you disagree....

It's really just been a thing in America for years.

One tried it on me when I defended a friend over some comments about iPhones & dropped a f-bomb. My bosses just told me to keep my employment hidden if I was going to talk like that, and then laughed over my comment.
