Well, here's my debut thread for this forum.

In my first few months on GTPlanet, I came up with a great deal of topics looking to discuss as many aspects of GT4 as possible. One of those topics was on American cars. Well guess what? New game, new discussion. The amount of American cars in the game was pretty sufficient for almost any American car fan. Many of my fellow American car fans stated that the American cars sound completely weak, especially with a Racing Muffler. I think many of us can agree that the American cars in GT4 were pretty sick looking. I love my C1 and C2 Corvettes. I think my new favorite Corvette, the 1958 Corvette, would be nice for GT5. I'm going to roll with my buddy 98Cobra in saying that a nice selection of Mustangs should be made available in the upcoming game. The most Mustangs ever featured in a Gran Turismo game was Gran Turismo 2 (about 6). I guess from an American perspective, if you're going to have a lot of Skylines and Lancers, why not many Mustangs to even things up? GTPlanet, this is not only a discussion about American cars in general, instead, this is also a thread about what improvements should be made to American cars to make them shine more in GT5? Let's keep this moving, you dig?

GTPlanet, this is a list of issues I've read on GTPlanet that would be interesting to address. I'll cite issues I've read on GTPlanet and from some GTPlanet members concerning American cars. Here are some I read: (1) American cars don't seem to do well on the strip in GT4. (2) American cars sound pretty weak in GT4. (3) Not enough American cars.

These are the majority of issues I've read about American cars in GT4. You know me. I respect a world of cars, so just because I'm American doesn't mean I have to like only American cars. But I do want to carry on this discussion about American cars in GT5. Of course, American means American. Everything from a Scion xB to a Dodge Viper is perfectly legal in this thread. It isn't a wishlist, though you can talk about what would be interesting in terms of American cars. Alright. The floor is yours.

Yeah, I totally agree with the lack of accurate sounds when it comes the the american cars, V8 engines in particular. If you remove the cat converter, an american V8 should sound much meaner/more throaty. Especially in the classic muscle cars in the game. However, I have also noticed that if you proceed with the engine balancing, it always seems to "castrate" the V8 sound. Keep in mind that alot of the old big V8's were not as well balanced as todays engines. My nieghbor has a 1970 'stang with the 428 cobrajet engine, and while it sounds awesome, its obvious that a proffesional balancing would help it. I doubt though, that it would alter the sound so much that it would sound like an Audi V8, like in the game.
I was also disappointed that they did not include a racing version of the new mustang. I've been watching the new ones road racing on the speed channel late at night (Seems like the only time Speed shows racing other than stupid nascar). In fact I just watched the new stang racing with rx8s, 350zs, M3s at Laguna Seca.

If you want pure American road racing beasts, look no further than SCCA Trans-Am racing. I normally say that an Australian V8 sounds pretty nice, the V8s in Trans-Am are pretty sick as well. Put in some new and old Trans-Am race cars, that should be pretty exciting. I'd SURELY like to race a Camaro Trans-Am racer from the late 1990s. TOCA Race Driver 2 had that one race series which features a Trans-Am type Jaguar XK8 or XKR. Only difference was that the headlights were real in this game. I would like to see some Race Car variants of the F-Body Camaro, the agile 2005 Mustang GT, the Jaguar XKR, but you can't talk about these machines unless you're talking about old-school Boss 302s and 'Cuda Trans-Am racers.

Other than that, I think PD did a pretty good job with the American cars. Equip a Racing Muffler on the 2005 Mustang GT, and it sounds a bit mean, but not really. One such game that has down some American car sounds pretty well is "Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas." Some great sounds even though there are no licensed cars to steal in the game. Even that FCR-900 superbike in the game has a mean roar to it.
As American car fans, what will GT5 have to provide for you to be proud to race with American cars? Better sounds, greater detail, better racing at the drag strip, or what?

I agree with you guys on the sound issue, I loved the sound the GT40 made in GT3, but it seems different, almost choked in GT4.

I'd also like to see a newer Corvette race car, and the S7 race car in there.

1.More factory cars (C6/Z06, dodge magnum srt8, typhoon, etc)
2.More concepts (camaro zl1, '99 dodge charger concept, etc)
3.More race cars (2005 Mustang GT Msport, cts-v(R?), viper competion coupe)
4.American tuners. Saleen (mustangs/focus),hennessey, lingenfelter, kenny brown, vortec, whoever makes the viper drift car, etc.
5. Better Sounds!!
6. More colors!! I know z06's were available in blue and some other colors, and not all viper'shave stripes.

My mistake.:D

You know what would be great?
Introducing 2WD (P)SUVs into GT4.
That should get Anti-SUV people scratching their heads.

^ [OT] In fact I don't consider myself as a anti-SUV guy, but in this time of days, I think they're pointless to purchase right now.

-> I'd Like to see those fast trucks like:
- Dodge Dakota 5.9 R/T
- GMC Jimmy Cyclone
- Dodge Ram SRT-10 (two-door only)
- Dodge Ram Hemi Daytona
- Dodge Ram Rumble Bee Edition
- Ford F-150 Harley Davidson Edition (crew-cab model)
- Chevy Silverado SS (crew-cab model)
- Chevy S10 Xtreme
- Chevy Blazer Xtreme
- Toyota Tacoma S-Runner
- Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT-8

(:

I'd like the
Range Rover Sport
Range Rover (4.4 HSE if possible. Or maybe the Vogue),
Porsche (Probably RUF :indiff: ) Cayenne Turbo S
Mercedes (new) ML55 //AMG
Nissan Terrano (I or II)
Nissan Murano
Nissan X-Trail
Nissan Patrol
Nissan Navara

The Vanishing Boy

It's a GMC Syclone Sonoma, the Typhoon was the Jummiy :D.

But I would love to see the Blazer Xtreme in there, with a motor swap option I could put the 350 in it. But the Blazer has only even been in one game and that was 4x4 Evo 2.

Yes we need more trucks in the game.

Will there be protestors as trackside?

Well, it is supposed to be realistic.

Ya and then I could laugh do a burnout and laugh some more...like you said realistic .

WHATS IT WITH SUV'S AND TRUCKS LOL!:irked: That's the same as I would say: "I want all those VW golf look-alikes!":irked: I don't want any more of those crap cars, give me some more corvettes, and a few more racing versions of the dodge viper race car, cause that red one isn't the only one! I want mussle sound IN PROPER CARS, not in cars that are..........well.................sorry........trucks or SUV'S!!!

What's wrong with trucks, I promise you the a Typhoon or a Syclone could take many of the cars in GT. Turbo charged 4.3L pushing about 280hp and it's AWD. It's almost like a Skyline truck you could say.

But in case you haven't noticed sports trucks are coming up in a big way.

Well I haven't noticed, I live in Holland so well..............I just like American muscle sound, greatest sound ever. In GT4 I think even a Supra makes a better sound:yuck:
But trucks are just soo.............well I don't know, I think they're a bit dumb, I would like to see it's power to weight ratio, I don't like fat heavy things that can beat a swift little thing so I don't like fast Trucks or Pickup Vans OR SUV's lol:lol:

Power to weight on the Ty/Sy isn't terriable nor is it on the SRT-10 (think of it as a Viper with a bed). I don't know I would really enjoy trucks, even more so for the rally races.

hhhmmmm...............ok.............I guess it's even now lol:P:lol:

but I still don't like trucks over corvettes and dodge vipers:sly:

-> Well we were pointing out PERFORMANCE trucks/SUV's not just those trucks that struggle @ 80 mph.

-> And besides, I also like to see more Vettes and other legendary muscle cars in the game. Plus some US performace trucks are somewhat concidered a muscle car (ie. El Camino). (:

you people wont be loving your SUV's so much when they allow the cars to roll in GT5 ;)

-'we're blocked by SUV's'
-'dont worry there's a slight turn up ahead'

Hmmm funny my truck has the ground clearance of Golf and the center of gravity one too. Hell even stock it was close to that. Only really big suvs and trucks will roll but that's only if you drive them like an idiot. IT would add a new challagne to the game.

Yes, GT5 does need some American cars as well as European, but it also needs this.

Not the cars, but the features of the scene.

Oh hands down that is better then Forza. But me personally I'm not really a fan of damage in video games. Sure it looks cool but in the end it pisses me off since something breaks at the worse possible time.

I don't mind it as long as I don't have to pay for it.

Come to think of it, that's probably how I'd like it in real life. But that's what games are for.

Uh, keep in mind. You're messing with BlazinXtreme, GTPlanet's truck expert. You'll hardly ever win over him in a truck argument.

As far as trucks go, I was disappointed not to see the Viper-powered Dodge Ram in the game. That thing would have easily been the machine I'd want to race in GT4. Name one of my favorite tuner machines in GT4. No, actually, the Toyota Tacoma X-Runner. This Tacoma is basically a Japanese weapon against the competition in GT4. I tuned it to about 400+ horsepower and had to modify suspension and tire settings to make it handle well. Then too, I think I lightened the weight down to a little over 3,000 lbs (when converting from Metric to Customary). For a truck, that's pretty damn light.

I think the car selection was pretty good in GT4, not to mention some more gems to unlock in the Historic Showroom and in races. I don't know. I kind of want to see more American race machines. The coolest American machine I've raced was the Corvette C2 Race Car. It had a nice roar to it, big horsepower, and I love the C2 Corvette. That Chapparral (correct spelling) 2D looks pretty nice. Had "1000 Miles!" allow all machines up to 1970, I would have used this machine to win the "1000 Miles!" events. I'm not a big NASCAR fan, but imagine having those winged warriors from the old days of NASCAR. Ford Torino, (we have the Superbird), and a few others I cannot recall... those would be nice. Instead of stock cars, "xxxx yyyy Race Car" would be fine enough. I'd love to buy 1960s Mustangs to use in the game. If most of you like to think that muscle cars were heavy machines with no handling. The Shelby GT350 Mustang weighed in at a pretty light 2790 (or so) pounds. It has the weight. All it needs is the tuning. Make it much lighter, pack on the ponies, own the pack.

So many cars, so many possiblities. Carry on. How would you feel about seeing the Chevy El Camino and the Ford Ranchero in the game?

Hey thank you much!

I would totally go for that. The El Camino SS with the 454 in it. Talk about a drift machiene.

I think one reason why you don't see too many Fords (especially Mustangs) in video games is because Ford pretty much has its own game (Ford Racing). I picked up Ford Racing 3 (please don't yell at me! :P) and it was fun for a bit before the arcade physics got stale. What I did like was the selection of cars. Besides a few older Mustangs, it had a few old Escorts and Sierras and even a couple of Falcons for you Aussie-lovers. It even had a Ford Ranchero.

Now, if they could just get those cars into GT5...

BTW, I'm a classic car lover... :)
