Well I well and truly have ditched GT5....played Forza4 all weekend and all I did last week was get Bob to do a number of LM24s with various cars....bring on PC gaming!

I wouldn't mind if it did or didn't, I'll probably find an endurance series with Aus times that I can run a Aston Lola in :D I'll keep checking in here tho to keep up with the latest.

Only thing that could save GT5 would be the addition of tyres that can last multiple stints (and the pit option to not change tyres) and some 2010 onwards GT1/2 and LMP1/2 cars (Saleen S7R damnit Kaz!)

Saleen is coming out with a new car I hear

Switching tire wear and fuel consumption off might bring some life back to the series...

Or not, I mean you can go flat out all the time and not worry about pitstops

That's why you mandate pit stops and force a two tire compound rule. If you are consistent you can win. But people make mistakes, so you can still catch someone unless they are error free.

A quick thought- Minimum 10 laps with both sets of tires, mandate two stops per race. First pit window opens around lap 10, ends lap 16. Use whatever tire you want first stint. Have to change tires to the other compound sometime during the race, so you can either go softs, softs, mediums... or mediums, softs, softs; etc. It brings in some strategy. Since you have to use both compouns (like in F1) you can either start out with the slower tire, do your 10 lap opening stint, then be fast the rest of the race on those softer tires. Or switch it up. You get me?

I'm all for trying different things out. I've found from the RGT races that Racing Hards actually make for some good racing and attracts clean drivers, as well as lasting fairly long by comparison to softs, but I can't imagine driving prototype cars on them...

Has anyone done extensive testing on mediums?

I like this idea but leave tire wear on and no softs allowed.

That's actually a great price. And Newegg is a great place as well!

But at least you can actually have a race, a set of tires that wear in 6-10 laps is just stupid, it just doesn't happen. A race should be won in the track and not on the pits, yes pit strategy is a nice clever way and don't get me wrong I love it but the way it is right now is just stupid and honestly is driving me away from GT5 more and more every time.

For Flyin:

Newegg is very good.
That's where I got my G27.
They really are! Makes me want to sell my Fanatec and grab one of those! G27s are definitely now the best bang for the buck! And the aftermarket support for this wheel is just awesome!

FIA GT1 World Championship was pretty close to what I suggested for the past couple years. A pit window and then a different tire compound. By opening up the window people with the harder tires can go for a quicker stint to switch to the softs, then go the rest of the race on their soft tires but make another stop, and the one's who started on softs can go for a longer 1st stint but pit say lap 14 to switch to their softs or mediums, either way mandating that you use both compounds for at least 10 laps makes it even. It'll be strategy. Force two pit stops with a minimum of 10 laps each tires. This would work great with races with at least 35laps.

Ok guys since the broadcast was a faliure here's a quick pic of the starting grid from the Spa 2.4:

I really like what Seth is proposing, it opens up the possibility for good startegy and keeps the racing interesting and fun.

I made it into the higlights!!

Jav,
How good of a tuner do you have to be to stay competetive? Im more of a tweaker right now as far as GT5 goes. I need to start off with a good tune and go from there.

What game is that???
iRacing.

@ Jav

Wow. 51 cars
Lol!! It was an awesome race! wish we could do it some day!

Trust me I do not touch my setups except for minor tweaks here and there, I either find them on the forums or race on a fixed series were everyone is restricted to the same setup provided by the service.
If you have a basic understanding of real world chasis dynamics and how each adjustment affects it you'll be good! But like I said, for the majority of them I just use what people share either on the forums or in practice sessions.
