Not a bad listing, but why exactly are they sticking the rather-horrible Chrysler Sebring in there with the rest of them? They do realize that its a bargain-basement car in the US, right?

I'm actually a bit disappointed that the Mondeo didn't finish higher. I don't think I've ever read a negative review of the car... Its just that good! And what? The new 6 didn't do well either? For shame!

As for the Passat, thats a bit of a surprise as well. I'm still shocked that you kids use the 1.8T over there, we use the 2.0 TSI out of the GTI in our "base" Passat.

Rather funny that the Saturn Aura, I mean, Opel Vectra beat-out the 9-3. That would never happen in the US...

Actually the Vectra tied the 9-3 for points, it didn't "beat it".

As for the Chrysler, the cars tested (Peugeot 407, Mazda 6, Opel Vectra, BMW 318i), I'm pretty sure those cars are at the same price level as the Sebring in Europe (i.e. just a bit more than in US due to the Euro) and I'm pretty sure that the Vectra and the Mazda 6 would be the same price in US as the Sebring.

BMW in fifth!?! A Ford mixing it up with European brands!?! A new Mazda 6!?! A Chrysler with less brake dive than a Mercedes sports sedan!?!

Dude, those European magazines have everything all upside down and backwards. The BMW wins, the Ford comes in last, there is no new Mazda 6, and the Chrysler needs a new front bumper after every stop light.

Get it right. Damn.

It was a BMW 318i. Pretty much BMW's little bargain car.

What's with the #1 car starting out with 434 out of 550 points. What were these cars graded on?

German parts content? I dunno... They always do everything different im Deutschland...

You get seven out of the eleven with them here in the US and Canada...

We'll be getting the Mondeo/Mazda6 soon enough, but yes, the lack of the French automobiles makes me sad as well...

Yeah I was referring to the Peugeot, Renault and Opel.

Canada's penetration rate of Corolla and Civic is utterly unrivaled by the rest of the world. Owing to our interest in economic sedans, these European econo-boxes would do quite nicely. Surely, their style alone would be well enough to stir up interest.

I don't think Peugeot and Renault and Citroen can afford selling cars in US/Canada.

As far as I know, every single one of these imported european cars (Mercedes, BMW, Porsche, VW, Saab, Volvo, Audi, etc.) are considerably cheaper over here (US/Canada) then in their home country (germany, sweden). I don't think Peugeot and etc. could compete with VW's pricing and etc.

For example, I went GM's canada website and built an Impala SS for about 39-40 grand with a sunroof and the better CD player. It has a 5.3L V8, not sure on horsepower.

On the french Peugeot website, top of the line 407 (gasoline) was 37,000 euros with a 211hp 24v V6 (or at least I think it was a V6). That's about $54,000 CAD. I'm pretty sure I could get a better VW or Audi with $54,000 than the top of line Peugeot 407.

All I'm saying is that I think the french companies don't have the budget to do the competitive pricing that german automakers do in N. America. That's just my reasoning though. There may be a different/other reason behind it.

Yeah I was referring to the Peugeot, Renault and Opel.

You've got the Opel in Canada, its called the Saturn Aura:

The Chevrolet Malibu is also pretty much the same car as well, although, I believe it is a bit bigger overall...

===

And yes, the Chevrolet Impala SS/Pontiac Grand Prix GXP/Buick LaCrosse Super all have the same 303 BHP 5.3L LS4 V8...

It was a BMW 318i. Pretty much BMW's little bargain car.

That costs as much as the competitors better products :D

Out of each category the final score is 550 points. Out of all those categories in total audi got 434 points.

Maybe so, but people who buy 318i's aren't necessarily buying them like folks who buy the competitor's better products. Most folks buy because they're either a BMW, or because they know it's still a really good car.
