An easy way for Polyphony to have some form of F1 in GT...

Kers and DRS aren't really artificial pace, you could say that the slick tyres are artificial pace, or that the much more powerful engines of 2004 are artificial in the same way. If you gave the 2004 cars DRS and Kers or slick tyres, they would be faster, but then if you gave the 2011 cars engines with an extra 200bhp they would be faster. Also don't forget that the fuel onboard the 2004 cars only had to last until the first pitstop, so its not comparable to the full fuel loads the cars hold today, the fastest lap in the Race of australia 2004 was 1:24.1 if i remember right.
I think it's only fair to compare with regulations intact.

That is true, but there is the Schumacher effect to consider : he was getting poled positions with extremely heavy fuel loads made to last till 2/5 of the race distance, the only example where he was fueled light was at Magny-Cours where he mad the 4 pit stop strategy and won.

Possibly, it may be different but... The BBC has recently done a whole series of (really good BTW) documentaries on F1 which focused on the old times, mainly due to the fact that Bernies rights aquistion does not extend to back then. So hopefully they could!

I'd love to drive a 60's Grand Prix car? Who wouldnt, though the reality is that if they did it properly not many people would be able to complete a lap faster than a snail without wiping out, those things had no grip and insane speed.

Whatever Kaz can do, I'll be all for it. I'm not the biggest Formula 1 or CART fan in the world, but it's fun once in a while, and the other guys love it. Besides, it's a huge part of motorsports these days.

Obviously Bernie Ecclestone wants you to buy an F1 game, which is why we don't have it in Gran Turismo. You'd be better off asking for Formula 3, or GP2.

Like I said... it may be 2004 and pre-2004 cars only, but a BOSS GP license would provide one heck of a loophole

I would love atleast 3 F1 cars from each Generation of f1 cars.
But cant we get Old Lotus f1 cars since PD has a lotus license? Give me every lotus and ill be happy :D Especially the 97t

The 2010 cars beat the 2004 cars on a few tracks, in qualifying the 2011 cars are even faster.

Example

2004 Australian GP : Qualifying 1:24.408 : Michael Schumacher
2010 Australian GP : Qualifying 1:23.919 : Sebastian Vettel
2011 Australian GP : Qualifying 1:23.529 : Sebastian Vettel

Slick tyres, more efficient downforce, and in 2011 Kers and DRS make the new cars the fastest in qualifying on many tracks. In the race the current cars are slower due to the refueling ban.

I am sick of this urban myth.

The 2004 F1 cars are by far the fastest ones. Because in the 2004 Qualifying regs, cars had to carry race fuel AND IIRC the drivers were only allowed to do one lap.
And still, eventhough driving with about 15-20 laps of fuel, having a disadvantage because of DRS, grooved tires, the 2010 and 2011 cars barely beat the 2004 qualifying times.

The 2004 cars have superior aerodynamics and stronger engines.

^ I second this, in the 90's the cars didn't beat the speeds seen in 92/93 untill the very end of the decade, the 2004 cars are what that era were to the 90s except those cars are still vastly superior to what we have now.

They have the Formula Gran Turismo. They should make a newer version together with Red Bull. A normal one.

Yeah the old cars are disadvantages by no kers/drs and their grooved tyres, as you obviously didnt see I mentioned in a previous post. The 2011 cars are disadvantaged by engines with 200bhp + less power.

"if this regulation wasnt in place then XXX car would be faster" arguements mean nothing, because the exact same can be applied to show the 2011 cars being faster. You could say, well if the 2011 cars didnt have the double defuser banned, and F-duct was allowed again and if they brought back the 3.0 V10 engines with 940bhp and if they did this and did that.

Fact remains, qualifying times of the 2011 cars are faster than the 2004 cars. Maybe with different regulations the 2004 cars would be faster, but you didnt have those regulations so what does it matter?

I always wondered this re having stuff PD doesnt have licenses for...

If they released a max/Maya plugin, added an exchange and released an event creator; couldnt users create the cars and host events (i.e. Online).

That would be legal right, as in no infringements.

Even if it weren't, and in some cases it most assuredly would be, doing that would be a logistical nightmare for Sony, both having to police the content the users created for ToU and copyright violations and giving up that level of control over PSN to the users.

Me personally, I'm not really seeing the desire to turn GT into an all encompassing racing game as a good thing.

This wouldn't happen partly because Codemasters have the licence and every car apart from Ferrari is Licenced to Bernie Eccolstone. And besides if you want F1 then get the officiel F1 game by Codemasters.

Sorry for spelling Ipod touch doesn't show any corrections.

Why doesnt PD just make a bunch of "their" f1 cars for each gen or f1's? Like 3 for the early 50's front engines cars. Then the earl 60's cars. So on and so on. With a bunch of liveries like the FGT's. I would love to have a 50's f1 world championship in gt5

All premium though! And proper sounds!

Nope, that would not be legal, it would the same as a players being able to create a replica of say Heihachi from Tekken in GTA IV, a clear cut copyright infringement if it's in public domain, and GT5 does count as a public domain.

GOTMAXPOWER
Any single seater series would get my money as DLC, I'd quite like Formula Nippon (not my favourite series but most likely) if it came with a lot of liveries. IndyCar could be a buyable licence too since they seem to be desperate for publicity and have quick cars.

IndyCar!
