I totally agree with what has been said, but specially with what Vince_Fiero said. First you need to be in peace with yourself, and the apology is a start. Only you know what mistakes have you done, so only you can try to fix them. After you clear you mind, and have no moral worries, you will be able to see things better, and so take advantage of all the opportunities you get. Yes it might sound like a self help book, but it can work for you.

You also should be proud of yourself. I've known people who have been in similar situation to yours, but do nothing about it. You want to do something about your situation, this is important, and for sure you will leave behind you these bad times. Even if tomorrow things haven't changed much, you might feel much better about your whole life. Just think on what will make you happy, not today, but tomorrow, and work for it, one step at a time.

Best of luck for you

If you really need transportation, save as much as you can and get an old Vespa that you can zip around town with. Craigslist is always a good start.

No thanks on the Vespa, I live in Phoenix. :p

That's what sucks living in a big town. Even by car, our ride to work right now takes 30 minutes.

I've made an inventory of things I can sell to make some money, and if I get what I'm asking I could make around $500. I've also talked to my mom, and she's willing to take $150 this payday so I can still try and get a car. That really means more to me right now than anything, as I can finally have some freedom to do things I want to do like find a better paying job.

Phoenix has great public transportation. 👍
Don't leave GTP is my best advice. :D

^^^ Actually it does. Problem is I live in far southeast of town where it's super rural. We do get buses out this way but I've personally never seen one. Not sure what their schedule is. The tram is still new and only goes through Tempe and central Phoenix.

Look into where buses are and their schedule. The sacrifice of taking public transit for now is small. The reason I'm saying that is if your needing to sell all your stuff just for $500 you'll quickly be back in trouble scraping up money for insurance, gas, and maintenance. Cars are wickedly expensive and if you could save the money on that while you get the other things in order first I think that's a better plan of action.

If your able to use public transit then you could try finding the better paying job, once that happens then you'll be able to afford your rent and a better car with money left over to actually use said car.

I'm not actually scraping together money for the car, I've just realized that I can live without some things and they just happen to be helping me get the car. I still don't know what a car is going to cost, I've already told the new car dealer to stop their deal but might still be interested in a 2004 Mazda3 5-Speed if I can get it for a good deal. If it seems to me like I'll barely be getting by with the car, then I'll pass on it.

I guess my problem is that the only other job I want to do is the one I want to spend the rest of my life doing. Tired of hopping from one mediocre job to the next. For that, I have to go to school and the best place for that is Oklahoma State. To get there I'll need a car.

We'll see, I'm not just going to jump on this car if it doesn't make sense to me.

Hey man, you absolutely need to get some higher education under your belt. I think I saw you mention something about meteorology, great choice. Consider however, that to make those big weather pay checks, you will need a masters or PhD. http://www.umsl.edu/services/govdocs/ooh9899/56.htm

Whatever field you choose to major in, make sure it can translate directly to a trade of some kind. General liberal arts educations are professionally worthless. Get trained to do something. My story is similar to your's, in that I had a hard time deciding on what the heck to do professionally, but if you bust your balls, you can make something workout. Getting the money and the time to achieve said result is the hardest part. Good luck.

There is always the military, they will house, train, and pay you. Air traffic control, there's a good one.

Right now I'm eyeing this. Just waiting for the right time to start getting stuff in gear. Having a car is step one, step two will be saving some money for the move, etc. Going to try my hardest to get there.

With a car this is going to happen very very very very very very slowly....without a car you'll be able to save quickly enough. Wait till you have savings built up and then buy a car.

Do you have a co-worker that can take you to work? That could be a good start. 👍

As mentioned by some other users, you should find a job that you enjoy. Seeing that you like racing cars (GT forum ;)), you should find a job at a local go-karting track, if there is one (as suggested by gogatrs). Something that you like and enjoy doing will make you happy, and that is essential in life!

Personally, I would move away from selling my items. While it is true that you get some cash from it, IMO, it's only a temporary solution. Moving to familiar ground; you know when you sell all your cars in GT just so you can buy that beautiful 787B? In the end, you'll always regret selling your cars because not only are you broke again, you are left with very little options to earn your money again. You just get the sense that what you earned was done by cheating. I mean, it's not like you can sell your items for the rest of your life, right? That said, some things that you have absolutely no need for can be sold. Perhaps that's not the best analogy, but I hope you understand my point.

What I would do is start low again; buy that $1000 Toyota Echo, live in that $1500 caravan. Using GT as an analogy again; when you started your career, you always had to buy some crappy Civic. Later on though, you will start to be able to buy those nice GT-R's. Going back to what I said about finding a job that you like, you're always in the mood to keep on going on. Even though you might have to race in a Civic, that won't stop you from racing because that's what you like to do, just like GT. Again, probably not the best analogy, but I hope you get the point.

Just a rule of thumb; don't let what others think about you affect the way you live. To others, you probably don't look like the richest guy in town, but that doesn't matter. Everybody has had their difficult times something in their life. It may seem like a difficult journey for you to stand up again, but once you get started, it won't be hard at all. 👍

Good luck!

Remember, we're always here if you need us!

That works out the same, either way.

In the end it does, but in your current situation you'd be up poop creek paddleless if you bought a car first and tried to save, pay rent and cover living expenses.

To get what you want done in a timely manner just tough it out catching a ride and save save save. You don't need a car just yet whilst you already have transport to work provided...

And I agree with others, don't sell your stuff for a quick cash infusion....

Just saw your other thread, good luck with things.....it'd be better if emotion didn't cloud your judgment but all the best 👍

I already get a ride from my brother, we work at the same place.

And see, that's the thing. I can't get a different job because I wouldn't have a reliable way to get there. I know a lot of jobs that I have applied for in the past have asked if I had reliable transportation to get there. Both the Kart places are indoors and at least 45 minutes from me, pending traffic.

Car dealerships, either as lot attendant or detailing?

Can we ask what your looking to make at the new job?

Also I very much agree it's much easier to save without the car. As you said yourself the car gives you freedom which more often than not results in costing you more money.

You'd be impressed at how much camping/living gear you can fit on the back of an old Honda Cub...

With the current world eco problems its tough these days.

I for one would try & do without a Car as long as you can they tend to be huge black holes for money even more so with current Fuel cost,s.

As much as I love Cars I ride a Bike all year round the best I can.

Few years back I made a pritty big move to Germany Hamburg from UK where things are pritty rough job wise.

I am still learning German not that simple at 45 Years of age & I only work 10 hrs a week part time my Girlfreind works full time but still money is a issue.

I am trying to get more hrs but I have to wait for a new buget to be put in place.

Here we have a excellent public transport system but its not cheap.

Its all about living within your limits & thats tough when you are younger as we all know.

But just hang in there do not let others put you down I am sure your family will help you the best they can, make sure you have the basics first the rest will come given time.

Just hang in there 👍

Is there no public transport anywhere near you? If you are still living at home, explain the situation and how you are feeling to your parents. Even if they rely on your help to pay rent, it will at least get them off your back for a while...

Up until recently I had more money going out of my bank account than I did coming in, for almost 3 years, but things have a strange way of sorting themselves out if you are open and honest with the situation you are in and with the people around you.

Lot attendants don't make squat, been there done that. Fun job but it's also super easy and pays like it.

I moved to Arizona in a '96 Civic Hatchback with a snap-on tool box in the back, and the rest of my crap. It was crammed full but I made it.

Material items are one thing, but as much as they can be a 'goal' for you to work towards and achieve, they can also be someone's downfall too.

Look upon it a different way, take a leaf out of Max's book:

"If you compare yourself with others,
you may become vain or bitter,
for always there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself."

"Be yourself"

"Nurture strength of spirit to shield you in sudden misfortune.
But do not distress yourself with dark imaginings.
Many fears are born of fatigue and loneliness."

"You are a child of the universe
no less than the trees and the stars;
you have a right to be here."

"And whatever your labors and aspirations,
in the noisy confusion of life,
keep peace in your soul.

With all its sham, drudgery, and broken dreams,
it is still a beautiful world."

Yes, we all need a 'home' of somekind and to a certain extent (especially in 'modern civilised society' we need an income, we all have different ways upon looking on this world, but it's how you 'see' the world andd yourself that can make a huge difference.

The reason I mention this is because this doesn't cost any money, doesn't mean years of studying etc etc - it's what's inside you.

Trust me, having a decent job, a fit and sexy women, nice home, nice car, friends, hobbies etc etc - that won't guarantee protection from the darker sides of human nature, or the natural world we live in.

I lost everything because I had an illness the dotors didn't diagnose for nearly 20 years, I have nothing now, and I mean jack ****.

But, I'm far less stressed and far more happy now than I've ever been, why, because it's how I see life now, how I've accepted things are like this and always will be - regardless of how hard I try to change that or them - it'll never happen.

My life is completely different to when I thought I had everything I needed, only to then find out that was all completely irrelevant and insignificant.

My friends, family and doctors say I've had a very bad life, but I still consider myself privaliged compared to some people in this world who are born into poverty, famine, war or suffer horrendeously because of the evil nature some people have.

Don't beat yourself up m8, as someone on this thread already said, you need to clear your head, somehow - find a 'release in life' that is positive, that could be sport, education, religion, whatever, it's personal to you and something you need to find, when you do the dark clouds will start to disperse and float away and the sun will start shining - no matter if you're riding a bicycle or driving your dream car...

Just don't take the frustration of your current situation out on yourself or those who care for you...that's a big mistake.

Just to update this thread since I haven't been on the internet all weekend, I did in fact purchase a car and have started my search for a higher paying job. I'm also going to contact the University of Oklahoma tomorrow and try to get all associated costs to attend their school in the Spring.

Thanks for the help, and I'm locking this up. Info on the car will be posted in my Rides thread in Members Rides in the next day or two.
