Marco Andretti, grandson to illustrious Mario, is rumored to be involved in a swap involving Rubens Barrichello. Marco, of Andretti Green Racing (INDY), would take Barrichello's seat while Rubens would finish his racing career at AGR. Food for thought. Of course this would be an American 'return' to F1. Found this tidbit on Yahoo/UK...

The IRL uses road and street courses now, and Marco has tested for Honda in the past, so adapting to F1 shouldn't be all that difficult, although I so agree it will be somewhat of an uphill struggle for him.

I wouldn't mind seeing Danica Patrick move up into F1 either. A female racing driver that can actually race properly and win races, as she proved at Motegi :)

Isn't Katherine Legge a better driver than Danica? I haven't seen Danica race on anything but ovals.

this would get Formula1 popular in the states again and finally, an American driver is back into the motorsport. on that same note, there goes takuma's chances of joining a honda works team.

mixed feelings about this one

...and the next rumor will involve a gargantuan rocket armadillo and a swap with Raikkonen.

Enough. Not every rumor deserves a thread, much less one as unlikely as an IRL driver swapping mid-season with a seasoned F1 driver. Much less with one who has the support of the frigging team's director, and is just a few Grand Prix' away from breaking the all-time starts record, and so far hasn't been too slow compared to Jensen, either.

At the same time, when you start a thread about a worthwhile rumor, do us a favour and quote an article in your thread, plus a direct link. I'm not going to google or search for something as unplausible as this.
mustang245 - with your constant, blind, and annoyingly-obvious fanboyism and relentless support of Alonso, you turn others against him. Do me, as another Alonso-fan, the favour, and stop it.

+ 1 million 👍

Agreed. It won't be easy. He'll have to turn left & Right!

Marco has one win. AT SEARS POINT.

Danica was very successful in karting, and her pre-IRL career was mostly road racing. As for Legge, she won three races in her only Toyota Atlantic season, then drove for an uncompetitive Champ Car team for two years

Gargantuan rocket armadillo to drive for the Prancing Horse confirmed!

HA! That's just superb!
I would like to apologise, rumored swap is to take place after current F1 season.
mea culpa...

Neither of them are particularly good on road courses from what I understand. I didn’t watch IRL before this year but from what I understand Danica never had particularly good results, meanwhile in Champ Car Legge was useless for the entire time she was in there. Usually at the back of the grid and comprehensively beaten by her team mates.

Don’t get me wrong, I have no problem with women in racing. But I don’t understand why people can seriously think these two drivers have what it takes to win in F1. So far as I can tell neither of them have demonstrated the sort of talent that makes them a serious contender for an F1 drive…

Actually DP's racing experience prior to 'ovals' was pretty heavy left/right. I don't know well she'd do in an F1 car, she was looking at the F1 path when she went to England in the beginning but didn't quite have it. She did win a fair amount in her early days, she can drive that's for sure.

Be interesting to see her give a few turns, I mean if Busch is being considered for a spin...well. :)
