Was hoping for Mint, but this isn't bad either.

As is tradition (Lollipop, KitKat, Jelly Bean, Ice Cream Sandwich, etc.) Google has revealed the version name for the upcoming sixth version of Android with a new statue in front of its Mountain View, CA HQ. The "polish and quality" focused Android M will stand for Marshmallow, and while it's still not available for public consumption (check out our preview from June), the company is encouraging developers to get their apps ready now, with a new SDK and "near-final" preview versions to use. The name shouldn't be much of a surprise however, since it's the one most of you guessed in our poll, where it nabbed 37 percent of the votes.

@TwinTurbo LM the names are named after sweet things so mint is not sweet by itself.
Yeah, I just realised that .

I really hope that the 'mobile radio active' bug and those pesky Google Play Services wakelocks are fixed. Instead of releasing new versions of Android, maybe Google should fix the existing bugs of the current versions.

Still rocking stock Jelly Bean, looking to upgrade soon but Android has become a bit bloated and cluttered IMO. It used to be like the Ubuntu of the mobile OS world, now it's filled with 'stuff'.

Not really. Lollipop is pretty great. Best upgrade since ICS.

I do like the permission changes, it's about time stuff didn't get free reign to access everything. All the preloaded Google stuff is rather annoying though.

I was thinking the other day about how much I miss the Sony Ericsson proprietary OS from the mid to late 2000's. I wish every mobile OS would look like that did.

So the permission works like on the BlackBerry?

I have a similar feature on my KitKat Xiaomi though.

Yes I think they started rolling out the feature in KitKat and Lollipop but it's getting more functionality in Marshmallow.

Apparently you can grant each specific permission requested of the app, you can set it to not access your contacts for example. Great for stopping data mining apps of which pretty much most are these days.

Apparently it's a licencing thing. All of those Google apps need to be included if a manufacturer wants to include the Play Store on their device. Link

As for the new permissions system, there was a hidden permissions manager (App Ops) built into 4.3 up until 4.4.1, but you needed to root your device to regain access to it on later versions.

Thats the thing which irks me, Android used to be based on a principle of open source, sure it was invented by them but it wasn't meant to be Google OS. Now they are ramming all their services down peoples throats and forcing vendors to play ball. Some companies have even given up or trying to heavily customise the OS. It kinda feels like it's turning into iOS.

Agreed, loving it. Excited for Marshmallow, probably my Z2 will be getting it but have no problems with Lollipop either way.

Cue the "Android has gone soft" rant from iOS fanboys. I'm surprised though, that they're jumping to "v6" so quickly, after having only one "v5" OS and three "v4" OS's.

Personally thought it would be Milkshake. Now that it's Marshmallow it'll cover most of the Android's body :/

I despise Lollipop on my Z1 Compact... The phone was perfect on Kitkat so I hope Marshmallow will solve the issues that Lollipop has.

Well, the 'Mobile Radio Active' bug has finally been fixed... but you need Xposed. It's sad that it's taken this long to fix, and that it's from volunteer developers instead of Google. Google really needs to stop pushing newer versions of Android and focus on squashing the bugs in existing versions.

AFAIK the biggest hurdle for developing Xposed for Lollipop was the ART runtime, so hopefully it won't take as long for it to be made compatible with Marshmallow.

Milkshake would have been good, his middle could have been a clear cup with a milkshake in it!

Although Milkshakes aren't strictly a desert / confectionery.

They are sweet and the android naming scheme is based on sweets not deserts.

As for the name Macaroon

A tricky but nice french food.

Good to know this while my Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini had never received Lollipop. Will I be able to get this?

EDIT: KitKat forever! :nervous::mad::banghead:🤬:boggled::irked::indiff::(:sick::rolleyes:👎

Not sure where to put this but here we go.

Ive downloaded it on my phone. It does easy to use but the whole app design is hillarious. Its emulating the IOS interface but without any animations you see on IOS.

I hope they gonna put sound notification again in the agenda and that I'll be able to enter more than one destination on google maps again. Missing both these things piss me off, not sure why they took them off.

Is there a Migrate to Android in the Apple App Store?
Technically no. However specific manufacturers like Samsung and Motorola made their own app to move from other phones including IOS to their phone.

But Android in general? No.
