With Vista, apparently Windows Media Player is always running. I searched the registry and msconfigf to see if I could disable it there, but no luck. Anyhow, once I plug in my USB Device (SanDisk Cruizer Micro), Media Player wants to sync with it. I just want to transfer files to it.

So, when I go to "Safely Remove Hardware", it says I can't because the device is in use. Once I shut down Media Player, I can remove it fine.

Is there any way to get around this? Thanks in advance.

It sounds like you may have once told it to sync or something else media related in the popup dialog that displays when you insert a USB drive and then ticked the "always do this" box. Just a guess. I haven't had any issues like this. Maybe you can look around in the WMP11 options and see if your flash drive is in the sync list or is listed as part of the library.

This sounds very possible. How would I check if I've done this?

I've tried checking this a few times, but will double-check and report back.

Edit: I think, by changing every option under 'AutoPlay' in the Contol Panel to 'Ask me every time,' I've fixed it. I'll see if it stays this way.
