I am pretty new to this, but I'm ready to make the jump to my first wheel. $300 sounds reasonable, and the little research I've done has pointed me at the Fanatec GT3 RS wheel and CSR Elite pedals bundle.

But, Fanatec isn't listed on the supported wheel hardware for the GT6 page.. And I've read that only the Thrustmaster T500/ 300 are 'Officially' supported on PS4, which I will be buying this winter..

So whats the deal with support and compatibility here? Does the above wheel work w/ PS3 + GT6, and does the community 'feel' that it'll be supported in the PS4 later? (like when GT7 eventually comes out)

Please go easy, the world of sim wheels is very new to me.

I have a G27, works fine. However, I have absolutely no idea of Sony's plans for PS4 wheel support. It'd be dumb to only support one wheel manufacturer.

Found another thread for a similar person:
What wheel for $400?

The T300 looks like a solid wheel, but I'm not a paddle shifter guy (yet?) so I'd have to maybe get a shifter add-on and new pedals, which I'm guessing puts be about 300-400$...

I wouldn't buy any Fanatec wheel except for a CSWv2 (which you can't buy yet) if you want PS4 compatability because none of them are.

Currently if you want PS4 compatability you are pretty much locked in to a Thrustmaster T300..

$300 is TOTALLY reasonable. Sadly tho, all it'll buy you is a last gen wheel. :(

Thrustmaster has 2 next gen wheels, the TX (for the XBONE) and the T300RS (PS4) and they both run $399.

MadCatz has a FFB wheel for the XBONE... also $399.

Fanatec has NO next gen wheels right now, although there are a LOT of rumors that there will be add-on rims for the CSWv2 that will give it XBONE/PS4 compatibility BY RIM... so the base is $599 by itself, and the rims tend to run $200+... and you need to buy pedals too.

Early reviews for the T300RS are positive, and you can almost always find steering wheels on sale for $50 to $100 off MSRP around the holidays, so I'd probably look out for that. Good luck!

Thanks everyone, I'm leaning towards the T300. It may not have a third pedal and stick, but I think thats okay in the short term as I learn to transition to a real wheel. And the holidays is likely when I'll bite. The reason I'm transitioning to a wheel was I recently got a ride in a modded Subaru STi at the track in Fontana Speedway, CA. The video looks slow, but it didn't feel it. The exhilaration of a real track (and driver's recommendation to get a wheel for GT6) was mind-blowing. Heres my gopro footage:
