I have today been in touch with a friend of mine who works at a local " GAME " store where i used to work , and is normally a very reliable source when it comes to release dates .
he is also a Gran Turismo fan , and also lookin forward to the day of release , however it pains me too have to tell you all that there are rumours going around the stores that there's a very real chance that our long awaited game has once again been put back .Apparently POLYPHONY DIGITAL are having problems with the online side of Gran turismo 4 , unfortunately as always with these things the details are quite sketchy , but apparently it's something to do with bandwith and data transfer issue's .

Now the bad news !!!!!!!!!!!!! :grumpy:

Easter next year is the word on the " GAME " store vibe @ the min ,

I have to say there is every hope that this news is wrong , however i do feel i have to inform you all that i worked in this store for two years , and have a good insight as to how the industry works .and generally when there are rumours circulating , there is some meaning behind them , if not what is actually being stated .

I myself am pretty gutted that if this news is true , the waiting game does once again commence for all us GT fans . But let us not get downhearted ,as i said there is every chance it could just another false rumour .

if any one else has heard of anything like this , would you be so kind as to let us know what info you have .

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news , but if its true you will have to hear it from someone , might aswell be me :guilty:

Welcome to GTP, Border ! It's a small, small world isn't it. I was born in Swindon and lived a literal stones throw away from the place my whole life. Do you know Scaff? He's also a Swindon lad around GTP. Bad news about the release date, let's hope it's not true! I'm sure it's not.

Hello
thanks for the beer - lol
and ur right its a small small world , sometimes way tooooo small
sorry dunno scaff :guilty:

yeah bad news aint the word , hope it aint true , but it got this horrid feeling it is .
still we will have to wait n see innit .

Not sure what to make of this news.
Original grumblings about the online mode prolems were made by those that played GT4 at the 2003 E3 Expo, after this PD pretty much admitted that things on this side were not going as smoothly as they had hoped, and is pretty much the reason why GT4 didnt appear last Xmas as planned.

However since we are well over a year on from that date, And with PD now having made very confident statements made around 2004 E3, about the Online Mode and that they have corrected the problems, I am not to concerend about this.
Add to this the fact they we have pretty much a confirmed Novemeber Release date, from PD, they themselves and are very upbeat about this date whenever they are asked about it.
I think its safe to assume that the online mode is pretty much in the bag.
The Extra delay in the game till Nov 04 has allowed the developers to improve dramatically all other elements of the game.
The Graphics engine has been re-enhanced.
The Physics engine has been Re-tweaked.
The car List has increased.
And PD discovered a way of getting the full Nurburgring, in the game.

It is widely suspected that the reason we will not see GT4 now till Nov 04, is not for any major problems with the game code.
They are probably just happy to keep tweaking and adding new stuff, now, While they wait for the end of a couple of Certain License Agreements, with some Serious car manufacturers, which will be the icing on the cake.

EDIT:
I dont really see how PD could have fixed the bandwidth problems data transfer (Or to be more precise the Latency), in the year between E3 2003 and E32004 where they announced it was fixed, then for a Serious inside source, the 'Sales rep' (see below) to come along and give your mate a tip off 'No' thats Bull, and really no it still isnt fixed and the games going to be delayed another 5 months beyond Nov 04 because of it.

As i said - these might not be true , however generally if rumours start in stores - from my experience , with alot of big name titles , they tend to have some meaning -
all that said - i just wanted everyone to know , as there is a possibility it could be true .
if it is true - then ill let you eat your hat - if not i'll eat mine lol

I don't think bandwith issues would throw the game forward 5 months passed november. Although, I am very willing to to wait till December if those certain car manufacturers are going to be included.

Ill live, my sister is getting a PS2 for her birthday today, looks like I can GT3 again, wee! 👍

This rumor is completely unfounded. Does the game store talk to PD? or even do buisniess directly with PD? no. These are just rumors. I won't believe any release date or delay rumors unless you have a direct reference to what PD or Sony said in a press release.

In my experience the Game Store staff no little enough about there industry and are the bottom of the food chain for reliable information, and rumours that start around the Journos/ developers who actually try out these games in house and at game Expos like E3 tend to have a much better grasp on the way the land lies.
We have some pretty good, reliable information coming through this Forum from good sources, most of which id take over anything I heard in a Game Store.

So dont worry, id say the chances that its true are as slim as a Rizla.

I have a friend who works in an independent game store and he get's all the latest info and such from the distributors who bring the game over here and send it all over and these guys still have a November release scheduled however there have been words in the overseas department hinting that an early 2005 release may not be as ridiculous as some people think.

Sorry but what you fail to realise is that game stores often have sales reps in stores to promote new business , and often we have had info on games before its in magazines .
also i did say that these are probably not true , but from two years experience of dealing with reps and games promoters , i would say they maybe a bit more of an insight as to what goes on in the industry than . somepeople that hear there mate say some rubbish and put in on the net for all to see .
now unless your some sort of games oracle , instead of trying to make out like you know everything , take me at my word and understand i said its just a rumour and might not come about !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

WHY THANK YOU !!!!!!
i rest my case :)

How early is early.
I could well see the possibility that tying up some legal issues is going to stretch this out to Jan 05 but not seriously expecting PD to delay another 5 months into easter 05.

^^^---You dont really have enough solid evidence to rest your case.

Well you can guarantee if it's 2005 the latest it will be out is May as that was when the original GT was released to the rest of the world. What you gotta hope though is that if for some reason there is a need for delaying GT4, that Sony release it when it's ready not to cash in at Christmas, GT2 is an example of unfinished and rushed to make a deadline.

i will just take the opportunity to inform you that gt4 has already broken three deadlines .
gt3 broke deadlines as did gt2 !!!!!!

it would seem you have no evidence to argue against me . chicken feed it might be , but it appears as tho the games shops where you and i by games from - do actually have more to do with developers . publishers , and so forth than you and i ,and i am mearly a messenger of what i hope is wrong news .

if i am proved wrong , then spout off --- till then button it !!!!!!!!!!

Even if it is true, why couldn't they release a complete offline version, then let us download the finished code for online play onto the HDD when it's done?

I can't see them delaying it any longer than they have already. All this will do is loose them credibility, especially when games like Forza are going to be a real rival. Any longer than late 2004 and any PS2 title is going to seem old hat when we start to see PS3 info and demos. PD will be wanting to crack on with GT5, so i'm sure they'll want to see the back of GT4 as quickly as they can.

Well if thats true...

*starts flushing money down the toilet for sony*

So you're saying that they developped all the game without thinking about the on-line side of it?!

uhm.. I don't think so

Well if thats true...

*starts flushing money down the toilet for sony*

Sony & Polyphony are both more than likely to loose money because of this ,although PD & SONY recognise the importance of getting GT right , if it comes out and gets slated because its unfinished , that will harm both company's even more than money loss .

Obviously SONY dont put all thier eggs in one basket , great though GT is it doesn't keep sony afloat on its own , there is the fair comment that KILLZONE is coming out for ps2 , but that aint a patch on the origional HALO , & HALO 2 is gonna blow it into smitherines ,So unless sony do meet the november/ december deadline , all they have to fall back on is GTA San Andreas .

No what im sayin is , they are apparently having problems with the online side .if you have seen the footage of the nurburgring , and understand that the ps2 isnt the most powerfull of machines , you will maybe be able to understand that with that much detail , and information , they could very well encounter problems trying to get the best out of it !!!!!!!!!!

Polyphony, Sony ... are too big for you and for me.
So don't think you 'know' them, Please.

Just think about the fact that no one (from all over the world) at this point can post here 'facts' about the game. because it's all 'top' secret (not for you and for me) ;)

Than You should type an "I think" or "IMO" before this:

but anyway say what you want... bah!

well excuse me - sorry everyone IMO - lol

Sorry if I'm coming over harsh on a new member but I've seen this type of thread made so much, we have a thousand threads dedicated to the release of GT4, we don't need a new thread made for ecver bit of info, also word of mouth does not qualify as reliable info online, you always need a source to back it up. Border welcome to GTP but please use the search function and use the threads that are already covering a topic. If PD missed the Cristmas rush it would be very detremental to the games sales and I think Sony will be pulling all the stops to make sure PD have it ready by then even though KY has said it won't be here until it's ready, it's still buisness and Sony own's PD.

Well sorry for not following the rules , but im pretty new to this forum business , just i have got some pretty reliable info from a store , where i used to work and know that they dont talk rubbish , and just wanted to share thats all . :guilty:

It's no problem, you didn't know, the reason I was blunt is because there are just soooo many threads on this one topic and many users who were here last year have been through the majority of them. Anyway, welcome to GTP if I havent already done so.

I honestly don't even care anymore when GT4 is released, I could care less if its even released by next April. If it comes out next month, it's not like I'll be able to play it anyway, because if I do, I'll fail University :sly: So I say, if they're having problems, so be it, take longer, as long as its done by next April when my summer starts, then I'm happy :)
