Answering machine at the house makes dial tone when someone tries to leave a message

When I try to call the house phone, it goes to a generic message and tells me to leave a message...then it goes nowhere. When I hear someone calling the house phone, it beeps a few times and then goes to a dialtone...aka no one can leave a message.

Any ideas?
 
Relatively new its a vtech 6.0 Ghz but we also had an older set that stopped working with the same reason and I've already tried moving the answering machine to another phone line.

Nevermind, AT&T has their voicemail system in place.

did you get all of the settings correct? Like when you get a new machine, it always needs to be set correctly as the direction booklet says.

Is it because your answer message isn't "yo vtech just kicked in so leave a message"?
