Could one of the PC masters (flattery gets you everywhere) exlpain what is meant when people say 4xFAA and 12xFSAA or whatever those regularly used two abreviations are? Also, what's the best setting for them? i presume the higher the better? and how do I change them?

Thanks

FSAA = Full Screen Anti-Aliasing

Basically it blurs the sharp edges of pixels to make them look smoother. The multiplier (4x, 6x) is how many passes the GPU processes the frame before it is rendered. The more passes it makes the smoother it looks, but the more the system is taxed which can cause unplayable frame rates. It's a balance between Performance and Quality. To edit these settings is dependent on your video card and operating system.

i think the other commonly used acronym (sp?) you are talking about is anisotropic filtering, or AF. it makes things clearer and sharper that are far away. basically. the multipliers are # of passings, like in AA.

I drew Zack's sword from FF7 (aka Buster Sword) in Photoshop.

In order to make the tip right, I had to do a non 45 degree line, which looks very steppy and jagged.

It also made that line look twice as thick as the others, so to balance it out, I reduced the darkness from 255 black to 128 gray, and used some AA on the line to remove the jaggedness.

When running FSAA, your computer has to make these kinds of decisions 60 times a second PER pass, as you play the game. Or something.

The best settings depend on your videocard and the game.
