Anticipation Withdrawal

I must admit im looking forward to GT5 that much I reckon I still struggle to sleep on Nov 3rd as I expect my copy to arrive on the 4th. I know this sounds childish but to be honest the night of Nov 3rd will be similiar to when I was a child on Xmas eve.

I doubt I will be disappointed though. Prior to TGS I tried to keep my expectations to a minimum. However since PD announced weather, track creator etc I would say GT5 is actually exceeding my expectations. I had a feeling these features might be in GT5 but I didn't expect them to all be in GT5.
I definitely have that Christmas feeling. Like IVOR, this game has blown me away with all the goodies Sensei and the lads have put into the game. While I'll miss a livery editor, everything else is just freaking cool. And it seems we're going to have a TON of PD made tracks, and then the Track Creator to add endless variety on top of those.

I have a feeling that during the first couple weeks of November, the disappointment level around here is going to be pretty low. ;)

I shelled out £400 on a new TV so I can play GT5 in full HD goodness (my current TV in my room is a 14" SD TV that doesnt do GT4 justice never mind GT5), I also preordered the Signature Edition, the first time I've ever preordered a game OR bought a special edition of anything.

Suffice it to say I'm pretty pumped. Six years in the making and it's gonna be more than worth it.

Its going to be great to finally own GT5, but really, the moment that will stand out most for me wont come for days or weeks after starting. Just buying the game only makes me one of millions of other sheep at gamestops across the country. What will matter more is bending the cars and tracks to my will (insert evil laugh).

I bet I just let it sit on the table for an hour or so while I get a beer to take stock of everything. Maybe flick through the book a bit first to ease me in gently.

Omg.

It's just a computer game dude. Just a computer game.

I'll be in shock. I've put in for the day off work, so i won't be getting any sleep for 24+ hours

It is remotely possible that there will be a serious run on PS3 purchases around the time of GT5's release. You might want to be sure you get one.

@ the OP

I kind of agree with you. I have been unemployed for almost two years and I have really been looking forward to GT5 but the excitement will likely pass the first few days then everything will be back to the same old normal blahh state.

The good news is I will probably be working again within a month. The question I now face is do I pospone going back to work so I can binge on GT5 and get it out of my system or do I go back to work as usual and drag on the excitement I get from having my new game. I'll probably wait a week or two to go back to work.

I descided I will buy a cockpit (a Playseat Evolution w gearshift holder) and upgrade my DFGT to a G27 to sweeten the experience.

I really hope it lasts but games aren't doing it for me as much as they used to.

what still is disapointing and probably the reason for poor pre ordering, is the lack of real information, sure we get the trailers, and info like weather rally etc, but still no car list, no track list. I mean the track list is still completly jargon no one can get a straight answer on the 20 tracks X layouts or 70 tracks or whatever. this is whats causing the depression you speak of we still have no real info

I think the franchise will sell itself. What we have seen is beyond amazing, and is enough to really drive sales. Now it's up to the marketing. GT5 hasn't been publicly marketed that much. Now that it will be, it will be a huge hit.

Agreed. It will sell itself and quite a few Slims.

Though having owned a PS1 with GT1 and 2, I remember being on the fence about GT3 because of the initial cost of a PS2. After playing it at a buddy's house, I had to have it--ASAMFP. Cost be damned!

November 2 can't come soon enough. Thank goodness for GT4, GT5P, and Super GT mods for GTR2. My PS3 Fat is making like Little Shop of Horrors' Seymour and crying out "Feed me!".

Must. Appease. PS3.

poor pre-orders is due to the fact that most game buyers care more about the new call of duty.
Gt5 has a lot to battle with on its launch,
November 9th c.o.d. black ops,
November 19th little big planet 2

GT5 pre orders are not really poor if amazon.co.uk speaks for most other stores. The regular version is no. 2 and Collectors Edition is no. 3 on their best selling games chart at the moment.

Well, I'm looking forward to this title, there's no doubt about that. It's been on pre-order for over a year now, I've dealt with the delays, and I'm relaxed about it. I've seen the screenshots and I'm still not really sure how good the game is going to be.

I'm not looking forward to it so much that I'll get upset if it gets delayed again, but I do want it, I am looking forward to it very much, and I've taken a week off work after it's been released, not solely to play the game I'd like to add.

One thing that is to note though, is that I am expecting to be glued to my PS3 for some time after it comes out. I want 100% in this bad boy.

How do you think you'll feel?

Like an eagle flying the winds from the east, using the currents to reach heights unreachable before, soaring through the sky reaching speeds unknown to mankind...

or I'll feel happy and about 50 euro's lighter.

In answer to the original post Id say I feel very ZEN about the whole situation.... The days where I was stressing like a maniac a year ago are long gone.... I'm just patiently waiting for this game now and when it does I will unleash all the excitement I have bottled up on that day when I have it in my hands.... Until then I try not to think of it AT ALL... :)

I'm starting to lose hope again, and I have found other things to do. It could just be that there is no exciting news, but I mean from what we are hearing it's not all that great, I mean My Chemical Romance for a intro... I am scared I won't care about GT5 when it comes out..... help...

Don't let the intro song get you down dude :) i'm sure PD picked it for good reason and it's probably going to be remixed. MCR are not my favourite but i'll give it a chance.

Don't lose hope! once GT5 is out i'm sure it'll blow all of us away :)

I think the depression will start nov 2nd, we you know you should be playing the game at that exact moment. Then...it's just a question of how many days of suffering before actual release lol. (I guess some ppl felt like that after the initial japan release date too)

This wait is a little much for me I have other games to play, I'm scared my GT enthusiasm is flying away, just like my love for flight sims (it already is gone..) :nervous:

Very good thread.

What you refer to as "post-natal depression" (very good term by the way) is a common effect nowadays, but not so noticeable every time. The Marketing industry perfectly knows how to create hype around ANY product. That's why so many people buy stuff that will never be used, and later say "I don't know why I bought that". Marketing can generate such a level of anticipation that is not natural, and people of course end up disappointed.

I've bought COD 1 and then I stopped to think why. I couldn't find an answer. In 2 years I've played that game about 4 times. And I still wanted to buy the second one! Thank God I managed to free myself from the hypnotic marketing.

To prevent my crucification here: I have nothing against COD. I personally just don't like it.

So this has what to do with the depression some of us are getting, you did not explain why we are losing our interest BEFORE the game has been released not after...

Yeah, I didn't explain that. But what I said definitely has something to do with this depression you're feeling.

It seems that people are living the release date now as they don't expect any bombastic news anymore. They think they know the game entirely like if they had the game already. And of course people's mind also plays a part on this depression, it's not only about marketing: basically, expectations are set too high sometimes. And again, hype helps that happen (say it loud).

If the hype gets smaller and smaller, I'm sure Sony/PD will do something to keep it high, like releasing another trailer.

PS: sorry for my English.

Im not so excited now , its been so long and if GT5 is due 2011 ill just be pissed

I think we all would be buddy, but with that latest australian advert guaranteeing an xmas delivery and Sony saying (i know, they've said ALOT of things) that it'll be out this holiday season i really do think it will make it to us late Nov early Dec :)
