So that nasty popup showed a few times whenever I closed the browser and each time I clicked cancel since I use Avast. The thing is though when that dialogue pop-up showed up (looked like a windows popup) that NEVER happens whenever I close a browser out. So I am thinking a bit of that virus is on my computer (Havn't ran Avast virus scanner yet but will once I leave for work)

I just tried Chrome and it's giving me "Error 2 (net::ERR_FAILED): Unknown error" for anything I browse.

Both now IE7 and Firefox 3.0.3 are acting really slow (both internet browsing and browsers themselves are sluggish/slight freezing)

Check my google is being stupid thread for what google is doing on its own.

I tried updating Avast, Spybot, and Adaware and none of them can connect to the servers (no firewall and this is the first time all 3 have not been able to connect to the servers)

If anyone has some idea what is going on please help a guy out

Get the update from your work place and then update the scanners as the virus is trying to keep you from updating the software. Also run that firewall.

And to think I was just talking about this in the other thread!

I had this a month ago... even if you click cancel or the X it will suddenly disable your antivirus and firewall, change your wallpaper and hijack your web browsers... I was lucky because it didnt affect Crome so I was able to get the fix..

Follow the intructions on this webpage including downloading the malware bites removal software and it will get rid of it from your system. If you cant get it on your infected computer get it off another PC and put the program on key..

This virus is a real bad one.. if you ever see anything antivirus xp 2008 come up on your screen instantly yank out the ethernet cable.. thats the only way to stop it in time.. It nearly infected another one of my PC's and because I had seen it before I yanked the cord and it didnt install...

I've seen this a few times on customers pc's and it's quite easy to get rid of.

Delete the folder in program files. Then search the registry for av08 and antivirus2008 and delete all the entries you find.

Oh, kill the process in task manage before you do that.

I got this nasty nasty virus last month on my Vista OS and well i let it go for about a day and a half thinking i got rid of it the first time i tried. But after a restart of my system I still had it. Make a long story short I tried EVERY thing to get rid of this and could not. By the end of the ordeal I could no longer access my C drive. Just re installed windows cured it for me.

It's got a few versions, and depending on how deep it gets it can be moderately difficult to nearly impossible to remove. I've had to reformat one machine to get rid of it.

The tool I found is at Malwarebytes.org.

If you see anything saying antivirus xp come up on your screen, its easy to avoid, just yank the internet cable... because it wont install anything until you have clicked the cancel or x button. I did this when it tried to infect my other comp and it didnt install.

If you already have it as I said in my previous post follow this tutorial and download Malware Bites to remove it..
