Ok so here's my diagnosis, but let me stress this now; I AM NOT A MASTER MECHANIC. My girlfriend has a 2005 Chrysler Sebring with the 2.4L I-4 that she just got less than a week ago. Car only has just over 48k miles and from what I know, no issues up to this point. Yesterday she says that it starts "hiccuping" or otherwise jerking and not kicking into the proper gear. Today I drove it around and I noticed a great deal of issues in minimal time. For starters it has a rough idle every 5-10 seconds. Once on the road after about 2 minutes and a traffic light, the car hit a "ceiling" of sorts and the engine speed would start bucking at about 2300 RPM in I believe 2nd gear. It could have been first because it was such a low speed (30-35 mph), but you never know with those early 2000's Chrysler transmissions. It refused to shift up and the car kept straining and running at that particular engine speed. I pulled over and shut the car off. About a minute later I drove off and everything was fine. Later on I could feel it hit that "ceiling" again but it was at a higher speed (45 mph) and it wasn't as violent. The check engine light is on, and I did make an attempt to check out the timing belt on the engine because I feel like that's the problem. But again; I AM NOT A MASTER MECHANIC. So I ask the public, any ideas/tips/suggestions/solutions? The car is under warranty and she's taking it back to the dealer tomorrow but I just wanted to see what your guys' opinion were since you never really let me down. Many thanks in advance 👍

Good move to give it to the dealer.

My first idea would be to look at the automatic transmission's ECU. I doubt it's the engine, and if you can start the car and restart it with it working fine it shouldn't be hardware in the transmission itself.

agreed. it's reccomended to give Chrysler trannies a flush every 30k

My 300C was doing the exact same thing when it hit around 60k ..... cam sensor was going out.

We can trace that back 10 years, my dad's 1995 Grand Voyager had to have it's box changed not too long ago... but damn, it lasted way more than 2000+ Chrysler products . As Hackr said, what it is is precisely the problem
