At first I was really disappointed with the implementation, but in all fairness, and after using it for awhile, I think it is a really decent first attempt at giving us something like this.
I have made a some tracks that I like so well, that now the disappointment is that the AI doesn't provide any challenge, and/or that it is impossible to get my car evenly matched or somewhat over-matched against the AI cars.
The biggest usefulness for Coursemaker I have found is for when I have my friends over to race, who don't have the game themselves, and therefor don't know the tracks like I do. Coursemaker eliminates this advantage.
In the future I hope there is more control over it; re-edit or rename saved tracks, use them in my lobby, and of course my secret dream of building a track from all my favorite turns on other tracks, i.e., Laguna Seca corkscrew, Apricot Hill chicane, Nurburgring technical section... But for now, I think it's good to take a break from bashing the devs on boneheaded decisions and giving them credit for this one.
