So I've been getting anxious to buy another vehicle. Right now I drive a Chevy S10 pickup with a Powerdyne supercharger. It's a nice truck and everything but I want something different. I planning on keeping my truck as a daily driver and getting something else as just an all around fun car. I want something rear wheel drive, manual, and pretty cheap (under $3000 USD). I'm leaning towards an early 90s Mazda Miata. I'm not too worried about aesthetics but it must be in good condition mechanically. The plan is to lower it (maybe coilovers), some nice wheels and tires, and a few small engine mods. I am curious to see if there's any Miata owners on here that could give me advice as to what to look for when buying, or recommendations for potential modifications. If you have some pictures please share them.

Here's a few pics of my current ride:

Nice pictures from a Park and Ride.

Yes, there are plenty of people on here that own/have owned and know about Miatas. The only thing is that are you looking local only? I've been looking on Craigslist for Miatas, and they all seem really expensive around here. Prices on Miatas have definitely gone up in the past year or two.

There are Miata drivers but you should ask Famine. He can help you.

Don't settle for anything with rust. Also, look around the zipper on the rear window (soft top) to make sure it's not ripped. So besides the other typical stuff you look for in a car you want to buy, that's pretty much it. I'd tell you not to settle for anything over $3000 and in good condition but I'm not sure where you live. Here in VA it's fairly easy to find base model NAs for under 4000 but apparently in Ohio you won't find a nice one for under $4000.
I've owned my Miata for more than 6 years now. I'll keep an eye on this thread for any question. I also have a build thread on here.

I've been mainly just browsing craigslist for now. It seems that most of them are around $3000. They usually have anywhere from 100k-170k miles on them. I've noticed a lot of them (especially red) have oxidation problems on the hood. But like I mentioned I'm not worried about aesthetics. I live in Washington so cars don't rust around here since the roads don't get salt in the winter.

Shouldn't do. The bonnet is aluminium...
