Even if they have split up there must be some Rage Against The Machine fans here since they are one of the most influencial bands of the 90's.

So use this thread to just discuss anything about Rage Against The Machine :D

Enjoy!

To start this thread off i'll ask a question, Whats the best rage album??

I'd say self titled.... just.

If I'm not complete mistaken, RATM was the only album worth spending a significant amount of time on... I still listen to it today...

The first band I saw on Roskilde Festival back in 1992 was RATM, Perfect way to start your first "real" festival adventure.. Twas AWESOME !...

Never cared much for neither one. I own them all, but they're collecting dust unlike RATM...

Have you heard the new album ?... Where he used to sound like all the evils in the world was on his shoulders, he's now much more relaxed.. They couldn't have a better vocalist in my opinion...

fair enough each to their own opinions but the first audioslave album conchise (i think thts wat its called) is better thn out of exile

I like the band, I hate Zach De La Roche.

but as a musician?? i thought he was a pretty dam gd vocalist

Nope, I can't stand the screaming or the half-rap. And his politics are shallow left-wing thinking at best; just this side of conspiracy theory. Instrumentally they're a great band but I have to just ignore the vocals or I can't listen.

Fair enough but they are all political so u cant really just say tht bout zack i mean tom has his own corp called Axis Of Justice wich is a political radio station

ugh...most horrible band ive ever heard. EVER. Completely un-talented and musically horrific. Screaming rap/bad guitar usage/ignorant lyrics. I hate those angry bands trying to scream a point across. The radio station here plays their crappy music all the time and it drives me crazy. worst band ever.

I agree on the ignorant lyrics/screaming rap part. But the band itself is great, if you listen to them. They're an incredibly tight 3-piece. Normally the songs were written by the guitarist, Tom Morello, and the band. Then the mostly-complete tracks were sent to the, umm, vocalist so he could caterwaul a lot of leftist conspiracy theory over it.

I'd love to get my hands on those masters, before the voclas were added.

I love RATM. The band is extremely tight knit and I can't possibly imagine the band working with other musicians (singers excluded). They do a great job of making semi-poor vocals (zach) sound amazing and great vocals sound bloody incredible (Audioslave). To be honest though, RATM wouldn't be RATM without Zach's voice. He's an integral part of the Rage sound IMO.

The whole band is extremely political - Tom and Zach especially. Tom Morello has a project band called The Nightwatchman - he shows up at protest demonstrations occasionally and plays folk music. Even Chris Cornell is supposed to be a political activist, but he doesn't sing much on that topic.

Personally, I'd prefer Chris Cornell over Zach De La Rocha (or whatever his name is) any day. He (Zach) sounds like a whiney little arse, but anyway...

I have their Self Entitled album. There's a few good songs I don't mind listening to every now and then. Tom Morello's riffs are what get me coming back for more. :guilty:

Chris Cornell and Audioslave can't even hold a candle to Zack with Rage. Even if I don't always agree with De La Rocha's politics, the passion he put into their songs makes him a cut above Cornell.I also think the music itself MINUS the vocals was much better with Rage than Audioslave, especially the guitar solos. Audioslave just sounds uninspired compared to Rage. I'm amazed that so many people think that Audioslave is a better band.

Also, Duke, where did you hear that Morello/Wilk/Commorfield would just send the tracks to Zack to sing over? I've seen you say the same thing here before and frankly, I'll believe it when I see it, but in all of my knowledge of the band, I've never heard that from anybody other than you.

anyone have their live album of their last concert??
Yeah I've got the album, they are amazing even when playing live, that must have been an awesome concert to be at.

It's been a while - like 5+ years - but I read it in a Rolling Stone or Guitar Player (I think it was GP) interview with Morello. They were asking about his post-RATM plans and he basically said it wouldn't be an issue doing without Zack musically because that's the way it was handled. That's not to say he wasn't disappointed with the breakup in other ways; as a friend and collaborator; but that it wouldn't do much to him as a musician.

To express my disgust. This is the band that i absolutely hate the most. Of every band or singer ive heard, from Tommy Tutone to Hansen RATM has to be the worst musical "artists" ever in existence. And its not just the fact that they have no talent that really pisses me off, its the fact that they're so famous. Constantly i hear their music on the radio. I know many people who are a fan of them. I can't stand it. But then again to each his own and if someone likes them then so be it im not going to try and stop you.

Now you know how I feel about music in general today. All those crappy "rock" bands like Maroon 5, etc. 👍

But seriously, musically RATM are (were) very talented. If you just ignore the vocals and focus on the the riffs and basslines, you'll find they're actually quite good.

Oh, BTW - am I the only one getting sick of Audioslave being compared to RATM? Sure, 75% of Audioslave are ex-RATM members, but the 2 bands have a totally different approach to their sound. Rage were a politically-rooted rap-rock band whilst Audioslave are more of a post-grunge band that ...aren't so political.
