Any tips for AMG Academy Intermediate - Full Lap?

I did four 7.05.xxx's tonight and one was a 7.05.011 which is just cruel and unusual.

Yeah, I too take the last right into the start/finish line , countless times, at 6:59:xxx grin quickly dissappearing as I realize 5s:banghead: isn't:banghead: enough:banghead: time:banghead:

PD... you call this "Intermediate" ? better revise this... I found most harder parts of this game more doable than a perfect lap "not being quite good enough" around this challenging course.

Although, even though I can lap this in 7:05:xxx (if I don't hit restart at the start 50 times in a row), my weakness stems from the loss of time , for not knowing how to tackle the left hander Bridge (crossing the lowest point of the track). I tend to understeer way to much into a mushy exit too often times.

That last corner was my undoing on many laps ... can't seem to get it consistently right. On my gold run I hit it better but still not perfect ... did not look at the timer at all from the last bridge to the end which I think helped.

I think this challenge is one of the most difficult in the game (and thus very rewarding). I can crush gold time in the individual challenges, it's just putting it all together for 7 minutes and dodging traffic that was difficult.

I basically tracked total gold time from the individual challenges and then used those to determine how my lap was going ... 1.22 at the first one, 3.19 at the second one, 5.03 at the third would be the composite gold times. I tried to be at least 2 seconds up on the first and second and 3 seconds up on the third. Total gold for all challenges would equal a 7.07 lap so you need to be faster than that. Very frustrating that it didn't give sector times in comparison to your best lap like most challenges do.

I'll take a rest before challenging the wet track in that car, LOL.
 
I was looking at this video, in mild disbelief, that this guy got gold, and with a slowdown behind the black merc going up a hill! (I usually pass this car approx 5s before he did)

But clearly, I see all I need to do, is brush up my final section, going up at 300km/hr, I need to greatly increase my braking point and glide through that end section faster. but it takes 7 minutes to get there! sigh...
 
I remember beating this challenge by 2 or 3 seconds, gonna try it again and see if I can improve, and upload the replay for you to see guys.

It's like they do it on purpose, they stand there on the spots that slow you down the most.
 
very nice run, mind sharing your Driving aids if any? You seem to hold difficult curves quite fast.
 
No aids but ABS in 1. But yeah, I almost ****ed up here and there and saved the car by countersteering.

The time was 6:59.2 or something.
 
I've goldened the hole AMG Academy.

I did use a DFGT, I didn't use any aids only ABS - 1. I gave alot of tries to get used with the cars and with the track.

You should keep practicing.
 
First half was good :cool:, second half got quite sloppy :grumpy:. Messed up both carousels and nearly spun out once :scared:, which delayed the last two overtakes. Could probably drop 2-3 seconds without those mistakes.

 
I finally got 6:59 last night! Except I didn't finish it:( it was just in my head....

I passed the lonesome Mercedes on the caroussel itself at 4:02s , and head on the final stretch at 6:18s split so I am doing it ok right? Then I tend to ease up on the 4th quarter and still lose it completely in the last section. I hit the wall on the start/finish, not at the curve itself, but on the STRAIGHT portion. Don't Ask.....

But ABS at 1, and adjusted brake balance to 6FR / 7Rear , TCS 0, and the car flies, I can split the 1st section at 1:18s

I STill can't gold it, I must have put 24h in to it so far.

I'm going to load up a Ferrari F40, and do a virtual head on disaster at La Sarthe tonight.
 
If you can get to the first split in 1'18.x then you definitely have the ability, and 6'18 at the final split is a few seconds inside gold pace. Only thing I can think of is to do the sector4 trial over and over until you get really comfortable with it, so when you hit that last split next time you know you can easily bring it home.
 
For the record, you guys are all killing this thing. I fancy myself a decent driver, but I can't even sniff gold here so far. Now, I push so hard that I rarely make it all the way through without wrecking as I am barely hanging on to try and increase speed. I think I may have to back down a little and get faster slowly.

This thing is so 'stressful' that I can't do it within 30 mins of going to bed or I can't sleep :lol:
 
Finally nailed it at 7:01, but I feel so ashamed, I turned on Mild Steering Assist. (however, it is detremental when you off throttle when going to fast in a corner, the car understeers off the cliff). It's hilarious how you are awarded like only 6,000 XP. no matter, I'm at A-40 where the points no longer matter.

The middle section is hard enough as it is but coming across other slower cars forcing you to take avoiding lines is really getting to me everytime.

As stated way back it is only a matter of time before I get it but come on!!! 7:05.075!!!

I found that when I was doing well on this event, I always seemed to come across the AI at the perfect place to pass without loosing speed. If you get behind, you start falling even farther behind because the AI is in the wrong spot. I ran a 7:03.xxx and it all comes down to passing the AI clean.
 
Ran this event for the first time today and got Gold after a couple hours of trying with a time of 7'02.027. I had already gotten gold on the individual sector events, but the full lap is a tough challenge because any big mistake and up to 7 minutes down the drain :scared: Here are the splits:

Definitely a couple of mistakes on this lap otherwise I think it was a 7 minute flat. A half second mistake in 04 when tail slid out trying to duck underneath another car in a corner, but saved it without leaving track or too much damage to momentum. A larger mistake in 06 when I went wide on a very fast section to pass (2 cars almost side by side) and caught some grass and flung into wall, but kept momentum and returned to track quickly. Definitely cost a bit in that sector, but actually cost me more in the following sector (07).

I didn't cut any corners and always kept 2 wheels on track except for the incident in 06. It's technically a "dirty" lap since I left track momentarily, but the off didn't help in any way (it hurt). I'll probably attempt to get a 7'00 at some point, but for now happy just to get gold. I blew many better laps in the last couple sectors :banghead: and relieved just to bank this one.

Anyway, with the splits above you pass most of the other cars at good spots. The one tough spot is when you go by the two cars at once in 06 and they are taking up most of track. A tiny bit faster to that section and you can pass them at an easier point (straight before the kink that sent me off).

So you don't need a perfect lap to get gold, but you probably need to build up some cushion with some good early sectors in order to make a mistake. Also that final split of 22.994 was pretty much error free and all out so probably made up for my mistakes there alone.

Edit: TCS: Off, ASM: Off, ABS: 1, brake bias: 5/7, Manual Transmission.

If you use the driving line there are a lot of corners you should be in gear 3 instead of the recommended 2... keeping momentum on this track is key, as someone else said they are almost all high speed corners.

Hi, You could buy a wheel. The "GT driving force" is pretty good or maybe just add some more ABS? Even with a wheel I set the ABS to 7 or 8 for most of my cars. Without ABS your tires will skid into the corners (if you're hot) and make the steering hopeless.. CRASH !! ...Also check out the rear "toe angle" (you need the cutomisable suspension for this). +0.2 is good for most cars. The front "toe angle" you could adjust to -0.05 or more. Hope this helps.
