Anybody here got an iPod or good mp3 player?

Well guys, I'm the actual creator of this thread (hey! remember me!) and i mentioned a few posts ago that I had decided on the iPod, Well, I got it. Ordered it off of Circuit City, picked it up the next day. That cost me a grand total of $283 and some odd cents (that includes the $13 sales tax and whatever else,). I must say, that the software was sort of confusing at first for me, then again, i'm NOT a computer whiz or genius in any sense of the word, BUT after spending some time with it I figured it out, and now i'm creating playlists, have a library of over 1300 songs (all on the 'Pod, still with 12gb left), I can easily burn a c.d and have it on my iPod in just a few minutes, and once it's on there it's easy to access, (although i have one complaint, some of my songs are nothing more than the song, they have no "i.d tags", so they pretty much come up invisible on the iPod, but i just isolate those and stick them in a "random" playlist. but this isn't a problem of the iPod, it's my problem b/c those songs arent' labeled), I don't really know about battery life b/c i just plug mine up whenever i have the chance, i don't give it time to run out. Soooo, yeah, I think i LOVE my iPod, it's freakin awesome. "...And that's all I got to say about that..."

Nahhh, It's not a color one unfortunately, I had to do a bit of scraping to get this one, I orginally had enough for it but a few things came up and I lost a few bucks and had to get theregular, but i'm still quite satisfied.

Sure, it looks like a nice MP3 player indeed! I don't have any problem calling a good piece of equipment good, no matter who makes it. I don't know the price for the H320 (I couldn't find it listed), but it's pretty much like the newer color iPods, minus FireWire but plus an FM tuner and video playback. I'd never use the video feature, I don't think, but I could easily see how someone might.

[edit] OK, I just looked, and the new 20 and 60 gig 'Pods offer composite video out and they'll take picture input from digital cameras or via syncing. With the composite video cable they'll broacast slideshows with audio to a TV or projectore. Still, it's not video playback, I agree, but it's not nothing, either.

The U2 iPod is a terrible value, too; only an idiot would pay that much extra for it. It's more than half again what I paid for my 20gb 4G iPod, and the only thing is it's got a black and red case. Even if I liked U2 all that much, I'd be a fool to buy it.

But I'm not on here saying "eat your heart out, iPoo owners" and then offering up a product that was $6 more expensive than an iPod while being considerably worse in capacity (the iPod was 400% larger in storage) and notably lacking in features (screen size, FireWire support). I paid $199 for an open-box, unused iPod 20gig 4G; the same thing that he paid for his 5 gig player, also open-box. I just walked into the Apple store and they had 4 or 5 of them sitting there on the back table; I'm sure they're available online as well.

I'm not an iPod fanboy. I've never said that iPods are the only MP3 player worth owning. But VIPFREAK is so obsessed with not having an iPod that he's trying desperately to prove that they're bad, and he bought something that is notably not as good, for the same money, and he's on here bragging about it.

And a recording feature, built in mic, USB host socket, 2 headphone jacks (viewing the matrix is more fun with 2 people), a line in, support for all audio codecs, "SRS WOW" (surround sound effect), a very nice leather case, and a pair of decent Senheiser earbuds in the box (alot better than the iPod ones) etc etc etc...

I would not buy an iPod, I veiw most of their owners (with a few execptions) as misguided followers of the capitalist mindset. I do not think that iPods represent good value, or paticularly good build quality (drop tests showed that the iRiver's laminated carbon-fiber build pwned the pod's two piece construction.)

No I dont hate iPod's (actually I hate their market dominance) or their owners. I think they are decent but overpriced MP3 players. I am not going to waste time prooving that my MP3 player pwns iPods because I already know that. Nor am I going to refer to them as "iPoos" because I find that an immature way of trying to slay a device which isnt that bad.

BTW Viper, you could always fight the Olympus m:robe's corner...

Nah... The Olympus does look good but it's kinda pricey and I looked at the controls. It's kind of like a non-jewelry version of an iPoo. The design is quite simple and high tech though.

Glad to hear you chose an iPod! I'm sure you'll enjoy it, i kow i have enjoyed mine. :)

On the subject of cheap ipods, my friend is buying a 20gb one from a shop that sells returned argos items. Peopl buy the ipod or whatever in argos, then decide they really wanted an ipod photo or a microwave, and take them back. They aren't damaged, but they still manage to sell them for around £110 !!!! He has sold his shuffle, and is planning to buy one whenever they have some new stock.

I don't remember the issue, but in some comp mag they reviewed the iRiver H10 and the Olympus m:robe.

Olympus is pricey, and has painstakingly long waits between menus anywhere from 4-6 seconds lonG!

That's outrageously unacceptable. I'd get my money back after the first time I used it.

I'm more than pleased with my H320. It looks cooler than an iPod, IMO, it isn't a trendwhore item, it has a color screen, it supports .ogg files, has an FM-tuner, microphone, a headphone and line-out jack, line-in jack, 2 usb ports (1 data and 1 media), and it is 20GB. I got it for $257. My brother just bought an iPod Photo 20GB for $280. His has a color screen, but not much else, except for the oh-so fancy firewire (isn't the shuffle USB? Apple abandoned their own hardware? ). He has to use the oh-so annoying, clumsy iTunes to sync up and transfer files onto the player. I can use windows plug-and-play so I can organize the files the way I want and use it easily has an external hard drive.

My stance on the iPod Suffle:
This is apple really raping uninformed consumers. The iPod is a good machine (though someehat of a rip-off b/c of accessories) but this shuffle think is crap. People buy it because they think it looks pretty and it's a trendy Apple, which they think is cool. Sure it's cheap, but for only $20 more, you could get an MP3 player that you can see what song is playing. And it shuffles. Apple is acting like shuffling is a new thing. It's not.

I just bought an Ipod Shuffle 1Gb this weekend on the internet, it should arrive tomorrow or wednesday. As I said on a previous post the Ipod Shuffle seems to have what I want in an MP3 player for a low price compared to others, so I decided to buy it.

I´ll post my thoughts of the Ipod as soon as I get my hands on it.

Did you know you can make H320/40's sync with itunes:D

Bought it about two weeks and it has been pretty god. The only problem I have is 'super skip'ing between folders which I suppose is a standard thing for key ring MP3s with standard skip buttons.

Why bother with iTunes when i can copy and paste? It's soooooo much more convenient
I know but I just say it when iPod lovers say Ipod is better because of iTunes. It's very funny to see the looks on their faces.I've even managed to convert some ipod faboys into iRiver ones:D

I got my Nomad Zen Xtra (40GB:eek: ) for Christmas, (I asked for a 20 gb one) and I love it! It was a steal at, I believe, 190 bones.

I love putting the EAX on Indoor Arena and listening to Kiss or Judas Priest, It sounds so cool!

I'm getting another mp3 player for my birthday. Ok, so it's got a 41mb memory, but it has a built in camera, and bluetooth!

What is it? A Sony Ericssn K700i phone, with bluetooth, mp3 player, and camera :D

You're such an idiot pengiun.

:D:sly:

Have fun with it. Again, I haven't had ANY problems with mine so I have no need for any of those features.

Only thing I could want is a FM Transmitter... .and I can get one for $5... again... doesn't matter that much to me.

If it's not built-in like my last mp3 player I think it's not worth it. I'm getting pretty frustrated with my current independant transmitter. :grumpy: I don't think the more expensive ones will work that well either.

Plus if you get the free, 1.25 firmware for it located here you get avi playback (ignore what it says about 10fps, you get over 70fps with the iRiverter program.

Version 1.28k(Korea)IS free and it has a clock.(It isn't in Korean either). But I can't wait to get Rockbox firmware when it gets ported to the H300's.

You need the 1.25 first, then the 1.27, then 1.28. There is now a european version of 1.28.

I mainly dislike rockbox (love the emulator) and might get the RedTyphoon firmware when it comes out.

I didn't. I went from 1.03 to 1.28.The euro version of 1.28 has a volume cap so I use the Korean one.

I just looked inton RockBox, and all I can say is that I will get it as soon as it comes out! 👍

Ive got a 6gb silver I-Pod and i cant recomend this MP3 player enough, simply the best thing ive purchased in a long time (except GT4 ;) )

Got a Zen Micro 5GB.

Like it because of:

Removable battery.
Is an ipod wannabe so it looks quite coll too.
FM tuner(but very liusy)
Recorder.
Wayyyy cheaper than an ipod over here and other brands(iriver, samsung) don't seems to have any presence here.

Still, removable battery 👍

Yeah, a removable battery is the only major improvement the iPods need. I don't get why they never changed that. I mean it can't be that hard to make a casing around the battery and change up the model of the iPod a little.

and a voice recorder, and an fm tuner, and compatibility with more audio formats (ie, ogg), a reasonable battery life

User changable batteries would destroy the aesthetics of it as it would break the smoothe surfaces of the unit.

:dopey: Not clean enough damn it!

Although techically they've been beat by the Olympus M:Robe.
