Along with Gran Turismo, this was my childhood game. I played it almost everyday for hours straight just trying new strategies on how to beat it more efficiently. It provided a very good challenge, even to the point of frustration, but it was very fun to play.

Zero was awesome if for no other reason than how much balls Genki had for including that many cars that were obviously real but not licencing them. Wish it controlled better, though.

I never got to play 3, but I've been thinking about buying it lately.

Drift 2, though... I loved Drift 2. So many fantastic ideas that the rest of the genre unfortunately has never considered implementing in other games. Especially the used car dealership the game had.

I still play Zero, Three (my favorite), and Drift 2 to this day. Currently running through Drift 2 with a new data.

Just wish there were to be another one to come out. Just to see what it could could be.

Hell yeah!! To this day I still play Zero!! XD Have 2 profiles on it both with 100%. That game is like crack.......... hell all three of the first TXR games were crack. 1, 2 and Zero!!

TXR 3 just didn't work for me. *Frowns* I played it beat all the bosses but stopped soon after. I just couldn't get into it like Zero. I liked the concept of new area's in it but the gameplay compared to the first three were just.......... ugh....... Even tuning felt nerfed to me. Drift 1 was cool. Drift two was better but the A.I were kinda meh.... well besides the bosses. I got 100% on that too.

But overall the TXR series is what got me into the Import/car community as a whole. I played the first TXR on the Sega Dreamcast (Still my favorite system) way back and it changed my life. I even remember what car and area he was in. (White Evo IV fully built. Racing against the team Freeway Leader if I remember correctly.)

Happy to see others love these games like me. ^^..... Need to Spam PD and tell them to look at the HP those cars make in Zero and all those badass Body kits and boss cars! XD Would be so epic driving/drifting those in GT6 or GT7.

My sister gave me Zero as a Christmas gift in 2002 and was excited just the case's display. I began to play, but had trouble figuring out how to challenge a racer. I was five and stupid at the time.

Ever since, I've probably played almost through the game about six times, but never kept the intention to defeat all rivals. There are about 400 rivals and every one of them scumbags were not similar to any past defeated rivals, they all had their personal style of driving and tuning for their vehicles. That is what kept the intensity alive while constantly racing hundreds of opponents.

The wide selection of mainly Japanese vehicles was amazing to select the perfect car that fitted your taste and delivered the correct amount of performance you need on the track. Oh, how this game introduced me to tens of vehicles while growing up, even though they were not licensed as @Tornado stated.

This is the only Tokyo Xtreme Racer game I have ever played, excluding demos. It has contributed to raising my interest in motorsports alongside with Gran Turismo. This game is a golden hit for me and I highly recommend this game to anyone who has been missing out on the fun experiential joy ride of a life time.

I still play Zero now and then, and I have a copy of TXRD2 as well. I began a new game in Zero earlier this year, and found that setting the brake balance to -14 made the game much more playable. With my laptop plugged into my gaming speakers and the engine sounds from the TV, I started playing the soundtrack from Wangan Midnight Maximum Tune and picked up a JZX100 Chaser like the one I owned in that game, which brought back a lot of memories of working at the arcade in Madison.

I remember how none of them needed updates or fixes, they were good from the get-go. (Yep, that's a GT6/PD jab :mischievous:)

My Favorite was TXR3 for the 'Special' cars it had, Ridox Supra, MCR-GTR34, C-West C4 'Vette, which reminds me...
The opening for TXR3 was my favorite.

(That speed-blast across the bridge )

Wasn't the 'last' one that "Import Tuner Challenge" on the X360 ?, I wish they would make a new one, it'd be interesting to see the road-network all updated and all the new 'tuning' options available for cars (E85 tuning and such)

I ADORED this game when I was younger; its one of the reasons that I keep around my PS2 even now.

Yes, Import Tuner Challenge was a spiritual sucessor to TXR; I haven't found a copy yet despite looking everywhere local; I guess I'll have to order it off of amazon (even though I don't have an X360 anymore)

I didn't really like the first Drift and haven't played Drift 2, but I have the rest of the games.

I've only played the TXR 1, way back on the Dreamcast. I beat it too. It wasn't a spectacular game, and it could be incredibly cheap at points, but it pulled me into the game to the point I can easily recall it. Looking (sparingly) for a copy of TXR 2.

There's a PSP version under a different name in Europe that escapes me...that and Zer0 were amazing.

More than that. The TXR series was a localization of the Shutokou Battle series (and Kaido Battle for the Drift titles), and ITC was Shutokou Battle X, simply localized under a different name. 👍

There was a (pretty good) Fast and the Furious game on the PSP that was basically Tokyo Xtreme Racer. Is that what you're referring to?
I found it. :D

Don't listen to the reviews, it was pretty damn fun!

Appreciate the info @Wolfe 👍

I never heard about this, guess I'll track down my old PSP and see about this.
