Hey, that's a good đź’ˇ there.
By the way, what type of fat PS3 you got and how did it die? Whenever you get to it and see if it's either the hardware or the updates with some tests, PM me here or add my PSN name niNJasPY55 with your results. I would love to hear them. Hopefully this can help. I played it again with a different PS3 game, it played for at least 20 minutes and then it suddenly stopped. Tried a PS1 game, and it works like it was brand new. I was thinking of reformatting the hdd and retrying the update, I'm saving this as a last resort after so many tries.
Will do..Since I can still get my blue and green (power/operating system) on for about 2sec, I have a feeling its not truly "dead"...but still have a RLOD afterwords. I might try to reformat the HDD by swapping it into my other Fat model (auto format)...that is before I crack it open. Gen 2 and under are a real PITA to put back together. Btw, I have an 80g Gen 2 Fat (pretty one). I also have an 80g 3rd gen that I reflowed and rebuilt...got it for free. Then obviously my new Slim 120g. One for every bedroom if I can get the pretty PS3 working.
A couple seconds after I updated 4.0, I began the boot up. All of a sudden the fan speed up faster than Ive ever heard it, then it shut off and gave the RLOD error. Like I said, when I press the power button, the green light for power comes on, then the blue light comes on and a second later it will do the "fan speed up, RLOD" thing again. Prior to this, it was 70deg F in the room and PS3 was sitting at idle...not even a game in the disk drive.
ps. After taking my PS3 offline, I've had no freezing issues, long load times, sound drop-offs...basically, it works just fine. This is totally contrary to the way it was behaving not 5 min before. I'm wondering why going online would be such a problem after the last update...if that is the problem.
Im sure its kinda like a laptop or something. I bet the PS3 continues to send and receive nonstop while online. So I would think going offline would save you that amount of usage to save for your games. I am by no means a computer person...just a guess.
