Hi there

For our software design and developement major project, the whole class opted to use Game Maker instead of VB or any other code based programs. The aim of the project is to make a game. I have one in mind, but can't pull it off, because I am not that crash hot at Game Maker (I'm using the free version that can be downloaded at yoyo games), and would greatly appreciate any help from anyone here that just so happens to be good at it.

If you are (or know someone who is) able to use Game Maker, please get in contact me me through PM

Cheers :)

I used Game Maker about 10 years ago, I couldn't remember anything from it now. However, I'd be getting out of any class where you're allowed to use Game Maker for a final Software Development Project.

What's the point in Software Design and Development if you opted out of using "VB or any other code based programs"?

You'd learn far more making (or failing to make) a very basic side scrolling game in VB than you will making a multi-level Mario Bros. tribute in Game Maker.

he made the decision after we all said we wanted to male a game.

As he spent much of the class time teaching us about other parts of the syllabus, and very little time for the major work (marked within the school - not the BOS), he said we could use Game Maker because it was pointless putting in 3 times as much work for something that would most likely be worse anyway. We had like 5 weeks to do it - and since some of us still had trouble with the coding language of VB, the outcome for them wouldn't have been very bright.

Would it not be better to learn a more usable program and learn from your mistakes, than get something right with a simpler program?

Doubt my boss would do what your lecturer is doing on his course. (Bsc/Msc Computer Game Science)

He's not a lecturer - I'm in yr12 doing HSC (High School Certificate) so he's more of a teacher (maybe they mean the same thing where you are)

We are doing games because it's more about learning the processes involved - not the actual programming. More like the folios and models. So making a game using a simple program is on the same importance as making somthing complicated on VB - but minus the stress.

Anyway, it wasn't up to me, so I don't know why everyone is telling me that it would be better to do it another way. I am asking for help with using game maker and everyone minus the very generous bigfish is asking me why I'm using Game Maker

Not sure if you need any more help? I had used the program for 2 years, but I've moved on and havnt even heard of it till this thread? lol

I'm a fairly experienced Game Maker user. I've been using it for about 4 years now.
