Anyone have (or have driven) a Caddy Catera?

I am used car shopping, and am kinda into the performace luxury stuff right now (but that'll likely change... I'm all over the place ). Has anyone had any experience with the Cadillac Catera? I'm looking at possibly a 2001 Catera Sport. I found out today that its made in Germany, and is basically an Opel somethingerather...
Whaddaya think?

They're not bad cars, so long as you remember one thing.

It's not a Cadillac.

I recommend you check out the Cadillac Owner's website and see what Catera owners have to say about them.

It's a rebadged Opel or something.

They're nice looking cars, that's all I know about them :)

edit: rereading your first post, it seems you already know it's an Opel :)

I agree with retsmah. When I saw them, I thought they were great looking cars and looked totally different from the other models. IMO, it was like a break away from a Cadillac while still driving them. I haven't seen one in months though.

The Catera use's the omega chassis just like Holden Commodores, and the 04,05,06 Pontiac GTO's :D

The Catera got bashed by the press and never sold too well. Personally, I like them. Don't think of it a sports sedan, but they're nice cars. The thing is, the used prices are cheap for how much car you get.

I never undertsood the Catera. It was marketed as a Cadillac, even though it wasn't very luxurious. At the time, it was the sportiest thing Cadillac had, yet the Automotive press hated them with a passion for no apparent reason. They were actually nice cars, and relatively cheap for their day, yet no one bought them. Oh well. They even looked nice. If you see one in good shape for cheap, it's a steal. Just beware of the electronical niggles tha plagued the Omega based Catera that Cadillac didn't work out until they developed the replacement C(atera)TS

It's not a Vectra. It's an Omega.

says right in the car mags and reviews it's at least a Opel clone...but the minute I saw a Vectra on GT2, i knew where the Catera came from. Saturn L's, as well, and it actually SAID Vectra in one review.

I can see what you mean tho...the Omega and Catera have Identical headlights....reminds me of Skyline and Infinity Q's in the states

i saw a 91 Infinity Q recently, and it strick me "He**, that looks like an R31!"

Same body design as well.

I can see them using the more expensive omega as opposed to the familly vectra.

The Cater is an Omega. I guarantee it.

Yeah and look what Holden does with the same Omega platform
